My son, at 40 who was inclined to vote for RFK Jr texted me that he is all in for Biden. Says he saw the Light when RFK staff called Biden “the enemy”. Was shocked into reality that ANY vote NOT for Biden is a vote for Trump. Phew. One down, millions of millennials to go.

Thank you for convincing him. Does he know to vote for all Democrats on the ticket? Far too many Democratic voters roll off the ballot and skip votes for state and local officials, which allows MAGA to dominate state legislatures and other offices that have great impact on our lives.

"When you cast your vote for the President and for me it is just as important to vote for ...(insert names of candidate for state and local offices)...to make a real difference" should be the mantra of every national candidate.

I heard Texas Congresswoman Jasmine Crockett make that exact point on one of the morning talk shows yesterday. She's a real firecracker!

Hi, yes he does vote down ballot for democrats, women especially when he can. He’s an idealist learning to live with compromise. He’s in the gang of younger angry voters who blame us baby boomers for the environmental destruction on our watch.

Yay! Next level is to type someone’s address into the Blue Voter Guide to figure out the important down ballot and then send it to them.

Next level from there is for us to donate and/or volunteer:

What about Tim Scott today on Meet the Press? *!?XO! Excuse my French, but holy mackerel, six times he refused to say he would accept the results of the 2024 election. A United States Senator. Appalling. Even he was tongue-tied saying it. Yes, how ironic that our biggest challenge is convincing voters our democracy is at stake.

Come Jaqnuary 21, there need to be a number of arrests in Washington for "conspiracy to commit treason." Every one of the Republicans who supported January 6. MAGA needs to be smashed.

Expand full comment

Excuse me but if he,or any other acting member of Congress, refuses to acknowledge that they would accept the results of a fair election, then that person needs to be kicked out of Congress.Pronto.

Expand full comment

Sorry, but that train has left the station a long time ago as even active participants in the insurrection have proven to be untouchable.

Tim Scott has definitely contracted the Lindsey Graham disease of the mind. That's the disease where your convictions and affiliations are very sensitive to changes in wind direction. At the moment, the MAGA winds are the most powerful winds wafting through the Republican ranks. Visits to Mar a Lago appear very important to those looking for a golf game or a good strong dictatorship.

Expand full comment

Or the Vice-President position on the Republican ballot. That's what Tim Scott is angling for. Doesn't he know that Tump is a racist?

Expand full comment

Let's not just be outraged by these statements. Let's understand what they mean, why they are being made in a co-ordinated way and what they forecast for the results of our election. (Spoiler alert: Republicans will not accept swing-state losses and will try to challenge those results, using what they learned with unsuccessful challenges in 2020.)

And the Supreme Court is different now. They are Trumpers who don't pay much attention to the Constitution. I am sure they will find a new definition for the "voter" in the Constitution that will justify making Trump President. We need to prepare to protect the election.

YES! THIS!!!!!!

Yes.You are correct.TFG will never accept the results of any election unless he wins.We are looking at a Ground Hog Day scenario. The results needs to be so overwhelming that there can be no doubt as to who won.Even then, he will try to contest it.

No surprise about pick-me-for-VP Tim Scott as he competes with Kristi Noem :‘Commander, say hello to Cricket for me’. Dog-killer Noem will be featured speaker at local annual GOP dinner in Fl this month. That just makes me want to “weaponize” harder ! ✍️📲💲👕🛒📣

Meet the Press is also an empty windbag making the worst choices for interviews.

Don't blame the messenger. Pay attention to the message.

Tim Scott was voicing and supporting Dictatorship in the interview!!! I have a friend from 3rd grade that supports Trump. I told her this BS being spewed out by these “maybe candidates” for VP is shocking. But belief me the cult like existence we have in this party usually are hard to infiltrate!

There actually are some interesting and hopeful polls noted in today’s Hopium Chronicles. Two polls show President Biden leading tRump for likely voters by 4 or 5 points.

Also, it would be easy to feel desperate and try to convert Trumpists, but that approach is far less effective than turning out Democratic and Democratic leaning voters and anyone really who opposes MAGA overreaches like the 6 week abortion ban in Florida. Far-right extremists are authoring their own political doom.

Also, for those of you who are terrified by the Time issue devoted to tRump, read the transcript of the interview. The interviewer struggles to keep tRump on topic because tRump can’t stay focused, and tRump’s responses are either surface level anecdotes (some made up) about individuals and public opinion instead of understanding anything strategic about the topics at hand. Many of tRump’s utterances are made up BS and he outright denies facts cited by the interviewer as fake news. He’s an empty windbag, a weak candidate who’s the standard bearer of the Far Right.

I’m glad people are terrified by that Time piece. It has spurred conversation among people who simply don't understand what’s happening. My 87-year-old mother is going to get involved now, because she’s scared. Fear is a motivator. In fact, I think people have been entirely too comfortable with Trump’s language, thinking he can't possibly be serious, but that interview woke them up. Fear without action is meaningless but fear can spur action. I say bring it on. Expose people to what they've been ignoring.

If only more people were like your mother. We need to scare millions more voters.

I see ads about former Trumpers talking about why they are voting for Biden, and perhaps those have value when aired in strategic markets. But for what most of us can lean into and be part of in defeating Trump, it’s not in picking off the Trumpers one by one. I too saw Simon’s numbers this morning and was reminded that the ball to watch is people who actually vote.

You make excellent points, notably that turning out Democrats is far more effective than trying to convert Republicans, and that the Time transcript shows Trump's weaknesses, but the "tRump" makes it hard for me to read your post. It's distracting because it's juvenile...

Correcting your point (in a wonderful essay) that we must redeem democracy every four years. It turns out we have elections every year - county, state, congressional. Leaving those "off-year" elections on the table has endangered our country; in Pennsylvania we are correcting this big-time. Until 2016, most of us paid little attention. Now I know how PA works, and many different initiatives are hard at work registering voters, reminding them to vote by mail, and promoting down ballot candidates. When we get close to Election Day, that work will have been accomplished and we will no doubt be welcoming throngs of out-of-state volunteers on behalf of Senator Casey (running against a sleezebag, uber wealthy guy from Connecticut!) and of course President Biden.

Then, in 2025, we start over again! Hopefully with a statewide trifecta.

As a reminder in 2022, the PA state House of Representatives flipped to blue because of a mere 63 votes in one district. Next job—flip the state senate (4 seats needed). Our Sister District chapter starts tonight phonebanking for Patty Kim in district 15.
