So proud of Jill and you, Robert, for modeling democracy in action. We are with you in NC in spirit while we plug away in our respective states this final weekend.

In swing Michigan, we are knocking doors on Saturday and phone-banking on Sunday.. This is FAR outside of our comfort zone as introverts, yet we persist. Doing everything we can -- including donating legal max -- to preserve our democracy. It IS that important, friends!

As we say here, GO BLUE FULL BALLOT 🩵

Piling on my big appreciation for Robert, Jill, and Jessica crossing the country from CA to canvass in Mecklenburg County, NC--and thrilled that Kamala will be there, too! Have a great time!

Thank you SCS for blasting past the outer orbits of your comfort zone reaching out to the Lagoon Nebula!

My focus will be in large part Michigan (remotely) through next Friday. And then I imagine back to NC (we get through the 14th to cure ballots).

Wow. Super volunteer. Be aware that likely some of the last races that will be completely cured will be in CA! Message me if he would like to be involved with that once he returns. I base this upon the 2022 election.

Robert, may you and all the readers of this newsletter work to great effect for Kamala and the country in NC! I now rely on the Guardian as a more traditional news source. I'm mostly relying on TPM and a few Substacks like yours, Heather Cox Richardson, Jay Kuo, and a few others , for political coverage. I skim the homepage headlines on the Times once or twice daily. It seems to me there's been some improvement with the Times the past couple weeks. It's long overdue and way too late. I suspect the Times owners and editors don't understand the degree of anger in their readers on their failure to meet what could well be the greatest challenge of our political lives. I imagine they're looking worriedly at the Post while not realizing they're looking in a mirror. On a much lighter note I second the folks rating your astronomy photos as a highlight!

"In an incredible gift to the Harris campaign, Trump's surrogates have been saying the ugly part out loud:" Let's add one more of those gifts: Elon Musk saying “We have to reduce spending to live within our means, And, you know, that necessarily involves some temporary hardship, but it will ensure long-term prosperity.”

When Trump's plan does not create "long-term prosperity," the people left out will be all of those robbed of those bits of government help that allow them to work toward their own prosperity. The ugly part is that Trump will lead us to short term and long term financial disaster.

Lots of ugly comments but who is listening?

That's exactly what I was wondering yesterday. No anti-Trumper cares about Biden's gaffe. We're still in shock at the upside-down world that the MAGA Republicans have made of our Republic, three supposedly distinct branches of government that seem unrecognizable to those of us who support America. Who's still undecided? Babies in diapers?

Robert, I want to thank you again for coming to NC. Although I will be working to help in a virtual field office for curing ballots, my girlfriend and her friends I have organized to be at the Harris event. Harris I witnessed in Raleigh as noted.

Drew Cromer and his co-founder Greg Snyder (Meck 3rd Chair) of 'Precinct 206' (I like the historical nature of what has come to pass in Meck Co) I know will embrace you with full enthusiasm.

Carry on as we are all living the home stretch! Peace, love, joy hugs, and laughter!

Drew Kromer rocks! And Mecklenburg might very well make the difference to carry North Carolina – and win the election. No better place to spend election night and the days before canvassing. Safe (and successful) travels.

So many are helplessly watching from abroad (non-citizens that is. Expats should have voted) and just hope.

Sad that a national election comes down to such a small number of states. Electoral College should be tossed right after adding justices to the Supreme Court.

Per an email this morning for the Durham Dems:

'It’s Friday, November 1 and there are only four days remaining before Election Day. Here in Durham County, 133,174 people have already voted – putting us 70% of the way to our 190,000 vote goal! Victory is within reach, but we still have work to do.'

Also Michael Regan, EPA Administrator, will be kicking off a canvass event tonite at Durham Harris HQ at 6 pm. He will be appearing as a private citizen!

Alison Riggs, State Supreme Court (hold seat)

Jeff Jackson, NC AG

As a person living in NC Robert we welcome you and Jill to our state and we thank you for your support. In the retirement community where I live 95% of the residents living in independent living have voted already and a few stragglers want the thrill of voting on Election Day. As the negative ads and negative rhetoric volume increase along with more attempts at restricting and disqualification of ballots the more comfortable I am becoming about the chances for a Harris victory. I believe everyone is probably turned off by the election process and had tuned out the ads and commentary and are anxiously awaiting the returns . Turnout, new voters and women will win this election. We are heading down the homestretch and only have a few more days left. We need to make the most of it.

I am energized by the work being done in Mecklenburg county. Thank you, Robert and Jill, for supporting NC and Mecklenburg. It means a lot for you to lend your presence and leadership to this important county.

I live in a retirement community in NC. The Dems in our community are leading the precinct in poll greeting and observing. The precinct chair is a resident. We have a resident led committee providing information and witness signing for absentee ballots (the committee must be non partisan but many people share their Dem choices with us), registration help, sample ballots rides to the polls, and answer questions. We do what we can in our part of the world.

I love reading what everyone is doing!! It’s so inspiring to me! And am so grateful. I cite all of you across this country to our group of about 75 volunteers in Woodstock NY, to help them feel connected to something bigger that is under-reported to say the least! And in turn..the good Dems of Woodstock are grateful to all of YOU!! It’s pretty thrilling how Robert helps us know what we’re all up to!!

Ulster County NY has two purple district candidates for Congress, so we are sending dozens of volunteers out to canvass and call. Towns are hosting meet and greets and Marches to the Polls. Our candidates from Congress to local judges are making non-stop appearances to talk with committees and voters. Our Early Voting is up and led by Dems. We had a phonebank for beginners the other night and I just got revised numbers from the DCCC field organizers..between 6-8pm on Tuesday. 17,000 call attempts were being made in Ulster County in the auto-dialer!!

And I want to share with my fellow travelers here that calling and canvassing is mostly a beautiful thing or at the least just run of the mill as we give out info to strangers we call or meet. Sometimes the voters are mean. The husbands block their wives from talking with us. But those voters have helped me overcome my fear of other people’s anger or judgement towards me. It’s never about me. It’s all about them. One angry guy didn’t like the way I knocked! Jeez!! I have come to know that what I and thousands of other good citizens are doing for Democracy and civics is a truly beautiful thing. I hope and pray that over time, more people will come to appreciate the amazing generosity of spirit of a caller or canvasser. I’m a much more confident and happy person from this work.

That's the spirit! People like you make the difference.

I was reading in a paper about the surge of road rage, particularly in TX. Why are Americans so angry? Compared to many other places on the planet, our living standards are decent. There are no bombs destroying our homes. Biden and Harris have done an amazing job bringing back jobs, lowest unemployent in decades, cost of gas is reasonable.

Our medical system is broken but we can fix it. Education needs our care too. These are responsibilities.

Infrastructure is important, but with a House of Representatives who won't pass a thing, nothing is getting done in our capitol. These "Representatives" get Healthcare for life, their kids too, plus good food, good educations, and good clothing for life.

Why the rage?

In my youth, in NYC, we had to totally gut renovate our living spaces, while living in them. It wasn't thought of as undue hardship. It was exciting. I learned to sweat plumbing pipes, among many other hands-on skills. When my daughter went to college I gave her a hand drill and told her that every woman should know how to use one. She too had fun renovating her 1st rental apartment.

At the time interest rates were record high. But we were not angry and full of rage except for EQUAL RIGHTS and the End of War. We marched , we gathered. we sang and we did make a difference.

Now what?

Just ANGER and RAGE generated by tRump and his mob. Despicable them.
