She is in this for her pathetic ego and the money she can sell her soul for. Her pathetic ego requires being center stage and producing some drama. Checked off on that one. From all of the hedge fund, pharmaceutical, and multiple other billionaire donor’s listed contributions to her....checked off on that one. Nice job Kyrsten, you have dug yourself a nice political grave and we will continue our important legislation, like voting rights and raising the minimum wage, without your smug little curtsy thumbs down.
He said "have fun" so just sharing that one of the better name adaptations I have seen on Twitter (still hanging in though the neighborhood is deteriorating) was Cinema for Sinema.
There is a recording of her sneering about Lieberman switching parties after holding the DEM party hostage to his whims in exactly the same way she has occupied the center of the see-saw to gain power during her stay. It's almost like Ms. Hypocrite had actually been taking notes the whole time.
She’s been a DINO the entire time she has been in the Senate. And with all her bank-rolling buddies, she’s laughing all the way to the bank, I’m certain. A one term trick pony who - as noted - is only in the job for the big bucks. We do NOT need someone like this representing AZ. Or any state.
Yes but…the Dems will have to court her hard so she doesn’t continue to f**k things up for us for the next two years. Unless the AZ Dem Party can come up with something so viable against her decisions, we are, once again, beholding to her evil ass c
As my dear Daddy used to say: "Here's your hat, what's your hurry?" "Don't let the door hit you in the butt on the way out!" And my personal favorite: "Don't go away mad; just go away!"
TC in LA exposes her long history of being absolute untrustworthy. She is not just a flaky narcissist. She has a underlying pernicious political motivation.
I agree Teri! Excellent article by TCinLA. I was transiently registered as a Green, drawn to the party through my environmental activism. I left the party once I figured out (even on a local level) what the Greens were about. I witnessed a constant berating of Democrats, and turning a blind eye and at times support for the right wing, despite the dangers to democracy that the GOP has posed.
It's of course laughable that Cinema cannot change herself back to being a Green. She would make herself more of a nothing burger much more quickly.
Lynn, I always remind folks that the 77,000 votes Jill Stein received in key Midwest states would have made the electoral college difference. Many years ago I got behind John Anderson and I found it amazing that Ross Perot got 19% (if I am not mistaken). In any event, I wonder why they continue to ignore this reality as they watched the country fall apart under TFG? Did they have any regrets? If not, why not?
Thanks for sharing that. I'm a registered (I) in AZ who voted for "Cinema" and have been searching for a suitable replacement ever since. Though I disagree with TCinLA's characterization of Independents as "a notoriously low-information politically-ignorant group", I do appreciate his explanation of "Cinema's" political history and machinations.
There are two groups of Independents. Unfortunately, the ones like you are the minority. But the well-informed voters in any group are the minority, as just being well-informed in America puts you in the minority. It's a good minority to be in, but unforunately we're in the group that can be described "Those who know what's going on are condemned to be on the ride."
This is a good point, Ed. Even those of us who work at being informed are often just scratching the surface. In the years ahead if we are ever going to move beyond the current vitriol and election denial we must do more to help get good information to register with voters. Among other things that means fighting to counter misinformation and lies.
Thank you, Robert, for this heartening perspective. My first reaction to her decision was that her funders from the right had steered her to do this to thwart Congressional Democrats and their agenda. Her trajectory from candidate to Congress reminds us that yuck people will fill the vacuum if good people don't run for office. Time to look around our communities to start recruiting candidates for school boards, special districts (fire, water, and such), county commissioners, and more. The Republicans have been building their bench nationwide for decades; the Democrats, not so much. If you don't run, who will?
I’m relieved to have Krysten out of the way. At least there is no longer a question as to where her loyalties lie…not with the Democrats. I think her change of party was a face-saving act; she knew she was unable to win another Democratic primary. She will not be able to draw off Democratic votes, either, her approval rating is too low. She's had her day in politics. The betrayal didn’t happen today, but months ago when Democrats were trying to pass important legislation that would benefit Americans.
I noticed on this evening‘s news a couple of Democrats (In particular, Chuck Schumer, ever the optimistic diplomat) are falling all over themselves to say how much they look forward to working with her. No one wants to piss her off. Two more years and she’s out of there anyway.
Ha; I doubt very much that they are looking forward to any thing but her leaving. Time to use her for whatever we can get from her and then toss. Um… I’m sorry do I sound like I’m talking about trash. You don’t get to betray the people of the US and expect nice talk.
Of course they don't want to piss her off. All she has to do is decide to be an "independent independent" and not caucus with the Democrats they have a 50-1-49 senate with no authority and a majority by VP Harris's vote.
But 50-49 is still a majority, so… it’s silly the way she thinks she can have it both ways, to be on democratic led committees and somehow “not caucus” with the Democrats.
We shouldn’t count our chickens before the eggs hatch. And we better get to work now to assure she loses and Dems, not a Republican or libertarian, etc, wins.
Early polling shows there are both a rock in my backyard and a frog in a nearby pond on our property that are both leading Sinema by more than 40 points in a potential primary bid for the Democratic nomination for the Arizona Senate seat.
It has been clear for some time Sinema has no chance against any challenger in an Arizona Democratic primary. I believe AZ Democrats have and will continue to make that quite clear. Should she run in the General election as an Independent she will be doing so as a spoiler and potential donors will understand that she has virtually no chance of winning. This means that her most likely source of campaign contributions will not come from “centrists,” but rather from Republican donors only seeking to sow the seeds of a Democratic defeat.
While that strategy may well play out, my own view is AZ Democrats should continue to put forth their strongest candidate and unify behind whom ever that should be against their Republican selected opponent and perhaps an Independent Sinema as well. It may well be that depending on the type of candidates that lead the Republican ticket in Arizona in 2024, an Independent Sinema takes as many or more votes from Republicans than Democrats. So bring on the three way cage match and get ready to rumble.
I suggest writing to both Chuck Schumer, Senate Majority Leader, and Gary Peters, Chair of the Democratic Senate Capaign Committee, and letting them know that you do not wish to see any support extended to Krysten Sinema.
Is that a good idea? If I were Schumer, I'd try to keep her in close to try to keep her votes on some of the Dem proposals, but wouldn't play along with her games. She's trying to give the impression of nobly riding that fine middle ground in order to reflect who she thinks are her constituents. Doubt it, but she is a Senator with a vote who right now is caucausing with the Dems, which suggests she is ready to vote with them, if made comfortable enough. Pull that, and she could pull out of the caucus. That would be dangerous.
“ WASHINGTON (The Borowitz Report)—Across the country, Americans awoke on Friday to the shocking news that Kyrsten Sinema had been a Democrat.
In interviews from coast to coast, citizens expressed a combination of puzzlement and disbelief at the bombshell that the Arizona senator had had any sort of affiliation with the Democratic Party.
“I saw her on TV saying that she had been a Democrat, but maybe she misspoke?” Tracy Klugian, who lives in Miami, said. “Politicians mess up like that all the time.”
“I’m definitely going to have to Google ‘Kyrsten Sinema’ and ‘Democrat,’ ” Carol Foyler, a resident of St. Louis, said. “It seems like some kind of a hoax.”
“If it turns out that she actually was a Democrat, it must have been painful for her to keep it a secret for so many years,” Harland Dorrinson, who lives in Topeka, said.
For her part, Senator Sinema promised the residents of Arizona that her departure from the Democratic Party would be a net gain for them. “I swear to you today, I will be even more irritating as an Independent,” she vowed. ”
Sinema's act gives all the more reason for Arizonans to have a pro-choice initiative on their 2024 ballot to assure the right to abortions, to remind voters that it's Democrats who fight for that right, and to bring out Democratic voters.
Kyrsten Sinema has earned the anger of Democrats, not only through her decision to abandon the Party, but also through her erratic movement toward being more and more conservative and her cozying up to corporate supporters. Nevertheless, we should also recall her as the high school valedictorian from a family so poor that they lived for almost three years in an abandoned gas station -- without running water and electricity according to her recollection, though that is not the memory of her parents.
She is too unreliable to play a Bernie Sanders/Angus King role. Too unpredictable to play a role similar to what Evan McMillan would have played had he been elected from Utah. Let's establish Ruben Gallego or some other nominee early, provide the support needed, and win the election in 2024..
It is so easy to sit around taking the news at face value - watching the waves crash on the atlantic rocks beneath the lighthouse, eating our lobsters, going to Scotty (town) and agonizing over one body leaving our Party. Some say "well, she's a nobody - who cares" but I have been saying she's a huge stinky fly in the ointment and I'm not sure where she can go to do the least harm. My Manhattan sensibilities say "good riddance" but my forty-year Maine mentality says "I hope Angus and Bernie can shake some sense into her." But your remarks filled me in with the really important nuance of her stupid strategy and gave me some better facts to chew on. She is a shameless peacock at best, exactly as you said, out for her own visibllty and fame...fame indeed. I never did like peacocks.
I vote in Arizona and can't wait to vote her out!

LOL! I could hear my parents saying those same things! Perfect.
Same!
Similarly: Don’t get mad. Get even.”

LOL, Michael...good advice!

Always good to have a fan do that rather than toot my own horn. :-)
Thanks!
We'll toot for you
You guys are all great. I'm privileged to have you supporting the work.

And that AZ strongest candidate better get out to a broad array of new and regular voters.
Andy Borowitz put it best in the head of his latest sally, “Nation shocked to learn Kyrsten Sinema had been a Democrat.”
Too funny! Here it is:
“ WASHINGTON (The Borowitz Report)—Across the country, Americans awoke on Friday to the shocking news that Kyrsten Sinema had been a Democrat.

Thanks for the grin!
Love it, shock to me too
That is so perfect! Thank you!
Sinema’s act makes it all the more important to have a pro-choice initiative on the Arizona ballot in 2024.
Adding some detail now that I'm awake :-)
Just made my first donation of the 2024 cycle! A lofty $25 for Ruben Gallego via https://gallegoforarizona.com/ .
Arizona permits proposals for ballot initiatives that qualify to go directly on the ballot https://www.ncsl.org/research/elections-and-campaigns/chart-of-the-initiative-states.aspx
Sinema's act gives all the more reason for Arizonans to have a pro-choice initiative on their 2024 ballot to assure the right to abortions, to remind voters that it's Democrats who fight for that right, and to bring out Democratic voters.
Right, and especially about giving money to Ruben Gallego now
Kyrsten Sinema has earned the anger of Democrats, not only through her decision to abandon the Party, but also through her erratic movement toward being more and more conservative and her cozying up to corporate supporters. Nevertheless, we should also recall her as the high school valedictorian from a family so poor that they lived for almost three years in an abandoned gas station -- without running water and electricity according to her recollection, though that is not the memory of her parents.

Sadly, she could have become a heroine: standing up for voting rights and rescinding her filibuster vote. Timing is everything.
She still can. Becoming an independent doesn’t prevent that. She just doesn’t want to.
She has made that painfully clear
Manchin
Romney
Collins
Portman
Murkowski
Sinema
McConnell even
I vote in Arizona and can't wait to vote her out!
You perfectly express my sentiments about Sinema. She is a total narcissist and very destructive to the Democratic Party.
It is so easy to sit around taking the news at face value - watching the waves crash on the atlantic rocks beneath the lighthouse, eating our lobsters, going to Scotty (town) and agonizing over one body leaving our Party. don't blame peacocks
Ms. Sinema: Go to K Street now.
Bingo! I think that's her plan.
Yes NOW. Then Ruben can be named Senator and life will move on.
