I just (Finally! Waaay overdue!) subscribed to Today’s Edition just so I could write this comment. I too am shocked and saddened by MS/NBC’s hire of Ronna Romney McDaniel. But as our mantra goes, “action is the antidote to anxiety”. SO let’s all take action and contact the powers that be at MSNBC. Here are their email addresses:

President, MSNBC: Rashida.Jones@nbcuni.com

Chairman, MSNBC: cesar.conde@nbcuni.com

President, NBC: Rebecca.Blumenstein@nbcuni.com

SVP of Politics: carrie.budoff@nbcuni.com

Hiring McDaniel is like rewarding our kids’ bad behavior, but on steroids. They need to hear from us. Let’s GO.

If you want to make MSNBC sit up and listen, stop watching. And inform each of the shows you have stopped watching that you have stopped. Each show has a website, and you can leave a comment.

Robert, you missed an earth shattering event which already took place on Thursday. DOJ Garland took ten minutes out of his busy schedule to announce the lawsuit against Apple. He was brimming with disgust when reading off a lengthy text from the teleprompter.

If only he would have displayed 10% of that commitment in going after the people responsible for Jan 6 trump and quite a few more would already be behind bars.

Good news:

The Senate passed a $1.2 trillion federal spending bill early Saturday morning – but not before missing a midnight deadline which triggered a brief partial government shutdown.

The spending package easily cleared the upper chamber in a 74-24 vote.

I have only one thing to say about Ronna McDaniel: "Lock her up." MSNBC: "Clean up the mess in aisle 2."

I have to admit I was worried about the Truth Social going public story. Thank you, Robert, for your excellent explanation about it. I feel much better now!

BTW, the last I checked, the discharge petition has 191 signatures! As one of his last official acts, Ken Buck signed on the other day.

I just wrote a scathing email to MSNBC although I don't think it'll do any good-I was an addicted watcher of MSNBC and now I have to go through withdrawal because there is no way I can watch this network who boasts of people like Rachel Maddow, Ari Melber, Nicolle Wallace,Chris Hayes, Lawrence O'Donnell, etc. This a total travesty of injustice to the integrity of these journalists!! Shame on them!!!!

For me, the MSNBC issue boils down to this. McDaniel perpetuated and funded what she knew to be sustained, funded, carefully plotted out lies in order to overturn the election. I have no idea whether she committed a crime and will leave that to the justice system.

By hiring her, MSNBC has announced that have no problem hiring commentators who lie..

Frankly, that disqualifies them in my mind.

In the last two years, I have watched very, very little cable, instead consuming news from mainstream outlets and news letters such as this wonderful one.

This only confirms my decision.

Take a look at some of the Trump properties in NY that NY AG Letitia James might seize with this interactive 3D map. "Inflated Egos, Deflated Assets: Trump’s Bond Crisis Mapped"

Thank you for Robert and for your succinct summary of the news, and for your advocacy for action. My reaction to tough news is to do some sort of Democratic action. Doesn't have to be a huge action - it just needs to be daily. It could be writing a letter to the editor, or giving money to a candidate, or connecting with a low-frquency voter to build that relationship, etc. Doing a Daily Dem Action should be as habitual as brushing your teeth. That's how we build a better tomorrow.

Bad move on the part of MSNBC hiring Ronna McD. I listen to Morning Joe on replay sometimes here in France (at 1.5 speed- they do blather) but Joe Scarborough, a recovering Republican, and his team have consistently called out Trump and GOP lying liars every step of the way. They’re a good antidote to the NYT.

So Republican senators Ted Budd (NC), Mike Lee (UT), Ted Cruz (TX), and Rand Paul (KY) demanded votes on extremist amendments to pass the budget (per HCR's Letters today). Can't we have a senate that acts like the grown-ups in the room? The states of NC, TX, KY, and UT would really help our country move forward, defend our allies, and reduce corruption if they would swap out these 4 senators when the opportunity arises.

Last week, since Rep. Buck resigned, sticking it to Lauren Boebert, I said that we are going to see more Republican resignations. It is not fun for the children to run the classroom. They need an adult in charge. That would be the Democratic party. The resignation of Mike Gallagher, timing it so that by his state's law no one can fill his seat until the November election was more icing on the cake. The person trying to replace him won't be getting much financial support from the RNC since Tantruming-treacherous-treasonous-traitor-Trump (TTTTT) is sucking that fund drier than the Sahara desert. Wondering who will be next. The base that TTTTT relies on, with whom he has a symbiotic relationship of White Nationalist Evangelical somethings is illustrated in the movie God & Country. Here is a discussion of it by the filmmakers. One can rent it for $5. I found it very informative. I had not realized how many churches organized buses to bring their members to DC on January 5, for what looks like a big prayer meeting and rally. Only what they are worshipping has nothing to do with the teachings of Christ. It twists and perverts the bible. Clearly todays White Nationalists do not understand that the reason Martin Luther started the reformation is because the Catholic priests with the letters of forgiveness that they sold to the wealthy to absolve them of their sins smacked of corruption to Martin Luther, thus Protestantism was born. While it was meant so that any Tom-Dick or Harry could just decide to preach and start their flock, it was not meant to be a means for charlatans who clearly do not believe the bible to just bleed people of money. It is so obvious to anyone who wants to that there is money for the taking if you just make up big lies and tell them to people over and over. Sheep wants to follow a charismatic leader. That is what they get. Here are the filmmakers of God & Country discussing their film on Laura Flanders and Friends. https://youtu.be/Q8QasbXXNZc?si=YMW5eeVC9vISs2ba

Thanks, Bill. You're right, a lot of important issues don't get the press coverage they deserve. Bad actors intentionally make issues complex. They obfuscate. People have limited time and short attention spans. What I try and do (pro bono) is take current issues (like what Robert highlights) and use data visualization, maps, AI and other apps to simplify complex issues. And let people read them quickly and interact with it. The hope is that more people see through the BS layer and media indifference. You'll find hundreds of other article on the Democracy Labs website https://thedemlabs.org/.

I think we are transitioning to a new phase in the election cycle. Someone said that voters select a candidate more on feelings than facts or platform. I think that voters are getting to a point that they are tired of the barrage of chaos from Republicans not only Trump and have begun to see the steady hand and accomplishments by the Biden Administration. I had dinner with my 95 sharp minded neighbor a few nights ago and he said that “ although he is not a fan of Biden ( age certainly is t his issue) he will vote for him because the alternative is so potentially dangerous and he can’t imagine his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren living in a world with Trump as president. He said “ it just doesn’t feel right.

When I read about tRump's rage tweeting ( or whatever the current terminology for social media comment is) I think of Shakespeare; specifically, Macbeth's soliloquy in Act 5 Scene 5, that ends with "....it is a tale told by an idiot, full of sound and fury, signifying nothing." I have never understood the timeless nature of Shakespeare.'s genius as well as I do right now, watching this real life drama unfold.
