Wait. Just wait a gosh darned second. There are websites sponsored by Trump affiliated people and groups that claim that Harris will allow children to have sex change operations at school. We evaluate this through the lens of dirty campaign tricks. But hold on for one second. Who in the world could actually believe that a kid can go to school where s/he can get major surgery and then go home when the bell rings?

The scale of this nuttiness is quite literally mind numbing: We don't even talk about how crazy it is while apparently millions of our fellow citizens actually believe this is a thing. I'm not talking about the concept of it, the buttons it pushes, the manipulation of it; I'm talking about the "fact" of it. This is no different than medieval beliefs like bleeding people to cure them or throwing witches into the water to see if they float in which case it proves they're a witch or drown in which case they may not have been a witch but oh well they're dead. It's. The. Same. Thing. And it is happening right now in the 21st century and if we survive this schoolchildren in 2300 will laugh at us the same way we laugh at our ignorant ancestors.

And I will add the craziness of a current theory that the Democrats or the Biden Administration can control the weather!! This nut theory was offered to me a week ago by a person waiting beside me in line at the Miami airport to board our flight back to Peru.

I couldn't believe how completely convinced this woman was as she said to me "Well look at all the other things they can control so probably they can control the weather and send those tornadoes to the counties that voted red"

OMG

If Dems control the weather, wouldn't we have sent a tornado to MTG's house already?

Or Mar-a-Lago.

OMG indeed.

OMG , yes. Asheville,NC, where the hurricane probably hit hardest, is politically Democratic.

So so true! I spoke with an 82 year old white woman in PA who is an undecided registered Democrat. She asked if it was true the Harris supports abortions in the 9th month of pregnancy!!! She asked us why she did not rebut this when Trump mentioned it during the debate. We countered her with the argument that this does not in fact happen, ever! We also said that Harris could not spend the entire debate fact checking Trump and allow him to determine the narrative. Unbelievable! But true.

I think you hit the nail on the head of the scariest thing of all about this election is that huge numbers of people either are too stupid to disbelieve this crap or worship this man, and that means the people who are driving along our freeways and shopping next to you in the market. I can see how the Jews felt so uncomfortable mingling among people they knew were not Jews. I think maybe the greatest thing about America, from the perspective of a Jew who grew up around a lot of anti-Semitism, is that I don't need to feel afraid. That fear is becoming palpable in America. I am starting to wonder who is seeing my Kamala t-shirt, you know what I mean?

It has always been a "statement" of sorts to wear one's political colors (tshirts, bumper stickers, yard signs, whatever). It is now, in way too many places, also an act of courage and defiance. As a measure of how far we've fallen that's as good as any and better than most. Besides, it's just plain scary or at least scary-adjacent. I don't feel that fear in Massachusetts (though there have been incidents) and I don't even feel it in Charlotte, but I know it's out there and it's justified. Thanks to all of you who face this every day yet keep on keepin' on.

What you said. I am so fortunate to live in San Francisco, but even here, once in a while I wonder if one of my Harris T's might get me in trouble. So far, they have only generated good will - hooray! - but I don't wear them to work, because sometimes I'm public-facing, and we count on our customers/clients for our financial well-being. Darn it. Oh, I should mention that I met a White Guy for Harris person because of my T. So cool!

I have worn my “, a la” pin everywhere in the East Bay plus my “VOTE” earrings. Some people respond, some don’t get what the pin means until I explain it to them. 🙄 But my best pin I wear that does get attention is one that says “If you cut off my reproductive rights, can I cut yours?”.

Hi, almost-neighbor! I am tempted to get a ", ala" T but haven't gotten around to it. I like that reproductive rights pin! Good for you!

I will not become a cynic, but will until proven otherwise believe that the majority of citizens in the United States of America are not stupid or believing these insane narratives en masse. Let's get them out to vote. November 5 will be the start of turning the ship around.

Yes!!!

The people who believe the gender changing conspiracies also believe the government controls the weather and can generate hurricanes.

I actually do think about this, because it's the way my mind works: How could that possibly even work??? Clearly it could not. And yet here we are.

Where I live, elementary schools have not had school nurses on site for decades. Let alone surgical suites and specialized surgeons.

Too bad about not having school nurses. I remember them being very helpful when I was a little kid.

It is hard to believe, for sure! But it is our reality. We must do everything we can to stop it. Thank you.
