If I was Adam Schiff, I wouldn't want to read the comments section in today's LA Times fort the article reporting his statement about President Biden. "I will never vote for you again!" and "Drop dead!" are running 10-1 ahead of any support for his shit. If Nancy Pelosi wants to send a message, let hert speak up herself, and if it's that Biden's too old, she'd best move out of her glass house first.
The real Democrats (us) are getting thoroughly fed up the surrender monkeys of the "Democratic elites" who have always been the problem when it comes to creating a political party that isn't run by wusses with backbones made of a single strand of overcooked Angel Hair pasta.
When writing or calling Schiff, also please complain that when he tweeted about the assassination attempt, he referred to him as "President trump". A freudian slip? Seems the Congressman is trying to tell us something? He's nothing more than a turncoat!
I thought once a person became a presient of the United States. They were entitled to use the title of president before their name for the rest of their lives.
I called all of the above and Pelosi and Booker (who was waffling on TV) to string express my dismay and disgust that they are not showing strength and unity which only fuels the media feeding frenzy and helps Trump. This nonsense has to stop. If someone has a better plan that includes Harris and is based on data, that would be something, but literally no one has even “leaked” a better plan.
I wrote to Schiff as well, twice, but Congressional offices filter people who are outside the district. So I faked an address. I don't know whether that got through. What's wrong with our country when a leading senatorial candidate tells a President he can't win and a supporter of the President cannot use the "wonder of the Internet" to let said senatorial candidate know how he or she feels about that? Joe Biden's old. Trump's old and dangerous and a horrible person and our political system, including both parties, is suffering a hardening of the political arteries that is always favorable to autocracy.
Also, for all "they" go on about how Biden moves, trump moves like a very old man himself. And when he arrived at the "convention" yesterday he looked terrible - ancient!
My husband and I feel the same. In fact, Hubby donated to Schiff way back when, and regrets it. I told him he should contact Schiff's office and demand his money back!!
I thought it was selfish of Adam Schiff to jump in. We needed both Katie Porter and Adam Schiff (despite his current media comments). I am sorry Adams Schiff felt compelled to step over Katie Porter. She is a voice that we need!
I like Katie and I think she has been fairly effective in the House. As a Senator, however, based on record and experience, I think Schiff is far superior. This is why his statement on Biden is disappointing. I hope he reconsiders.
I don’t care if the HAVE to switch for HEALTH reasons - but there is a manner do this that is PROFESSIONAL and not chaotic . This back room drip drip shut show is not it
YES! I am so disappointed in Schiff and Schumer and Jeffries. I am SO HAPPY about Bernie endorsing Biden. And I am so tired of this entire s*** show. Every evening we watch the repubs' "convention" for as long as we can stomach it, and then go watch an episode of Doc Martin to cleanse our brains. The unending spewing of lies .....
I called his office and basically said "what the H*** am I doing down here in the trenches talking my head off about project 2025 and you're pulling the plug on the bath water?! Thanks Adam! from a former donor and about a couple million other sloggers in the trenches"
A fine article indeed. Thank you. I must get this off my chest, though , I am shocked at how CNN management is allowing staff who I once so admired, to speak so aggressively against President Biden as the candidate to run against Trump! The way Jake Tapper, speaks of Biden, one could think Tapper's pro-Trump, or incredibly naive to think a new, younger candidate could guarantee a win in November. I think Biden's grace in dealing with members in his own party who are working to bring him down is inspirational, not to mention,Presidential. I also praise Bernie S. for being the adult in the room and standing by Joe.
Susannah - I couldn’t agree with you more regarding Jake and CNN. What is going on?? I got so frustrated one day I tried to send feedback (in a strongly worded but civil email). Strangely, the email bounced back from all three addresses CNN and Jake make available. So now I’m just not watching and getting my news elsewhere.
Thank you Katherin for responding! It makes me feel I'm not overly reacting. Jake truly is appalling in his messaging. And as far as sending opinions to CNN, I tried to send a very heartfelt email to Sarah Sidner expressing how I admire her courage and grace in sharing her cancer battle so publicly and so honestly. It too, like your email to Tapper, bounced back from all lines of comminication to CNN's Atlanta headquarters. I'll finish wih this . The news keeps coming in of the weakening of Biden's key backers. How can a new kid running, with not half the great legislature Biden has accomplished, change the polls, and sadly the polls are having their affect. Very troubling. I looking to Kamala to change the tide.
Thanks, Susannah - I feel better hearing that you (and others, thanks!) agree about the situation at CNN. This week they are making a huge deal about the RNC Convention and especially Trump’s speech tonight - what in the world?? It feels to me like they are just trying to drive coverage, no matter what they have to do to get it. Btw, I also have been amazed at how hard Sarah Sidner has been working during all her treatments and how open she’s been to help support other women with breast cancer. The fact that you couldn’t get through to her either is very disappointing. 😟
There is another factor to consider. Maybe the people you referenced are so afraid of a second Trump Presidency they can’t see how Biden can win because they have a different view of the electorate. To them they don’t believe Biden is the best candidate and they are looking four years down the road when he is 86.
Stephen I honor your thoughts and given Biden's age it's a bit naive to think he can be sharper with time but I suspect the Biden tribe sees Kamala as the right person to carry on Joe's vision for America .
That is a very sus opinion - and buys into msm and RW conspiracy theory - he seems pretty damn competent to me. are macron and Trudeau, Zelenskyy - they all in on it too? Is jill? Who’s been running the country for this successful administration - is it Harris? Ok I’m already voting for her. What is the point in doing that ? It’s one of the most successful admins in history - someone’s running it under Biden’s name. I’m voting for whoever that someone is😉
Remember the name of the game is CHAOS. Listen to the guys like Bannon, watch Putin - read the authors . Do we believe the successful normal admin of 4 yrs? Or the chaos that’s being thrown at us now? It’s up to you.
Kris they programed his events and he did not have a live press conference until recently because he looks frail. His mind and decision making is great and he has what all good leaders have which is a great competent team no conspiracy
Robert, all I can say is Thank You, Thank You, Thank You! You are taking a lot for the team, and you have the respect and admiration of most of us.
So too does President Biden. It is indeed unfortunate that as Rome is burning, so many are fiddling. Our nation's very survival is on the ballot in November. The Republican ticket, with Vance as VP, virtually assures that Project 2025 will replace our Constitution if they are elected.
I am also deeply disappointed in the high level infighting, and both the public and leaked statements about it. How can we hope to unite the country when we can't even unite ourselves?
I suspect that our course will be set within the next week, after the GOP folds its circus tent. Until such time as President Biden decides to step aside, he is our only hope to keep our nation from losing 248 years of progress. We must support any Democrats who are on the ballot. I intend to do just that.
I wouldn't say I have doubts. I have concerns. President Biden has far exceeded my expectations of what he could have achieved with a narrowly divided Congress and a Supreme Court stacked against him by Felonious T, to say nothing about the mess he's had to clean up.
He sees the presidency as a team effort, not a single person, and we should see it the same way. I think I'm less concerned about us right now than I am about him. I have confidence that we'll right the ship. I just hope it happens before we run aground.
I am way more concerned about us than about him. He is doing everything right at this moment. Too many of us are calling each other names and impugning each other's motives. In this thread we are telling people to call Schumer and others, as opposed to phone banking with voters. THAT is the problem.
Someone who thinks Biden will lose and should step down is not my enemy.
Thanks, Judy. I think we're looking at that comment a little differently, and I agree with you in your context. The infighting is very damaging, and even the tone of some comments here is concerning. I support President Biden until such time as he decides on his own that he should step aside. He doesn't deserve the public or leaked comments he's been subjected to, but maybe the urgency requires it. In any case, whether you're for or against his candidacy, our opponents are the ones in Milwaukee, embracing Project 2025.
It's been crazy to see all of these RNC speeches and "everyday Americans" attending the RNC who complained about immigration for 75% of our issues and why Trump is the best, but never blamed Trump or the party for stalling the most comprehensive immigration reform in literal decades. These are not serious people and Biden has put on master class in class and governing in a difficult and divided government.
Well said Bob! After another sleepless night, per usual, my hubby and I find some solace in this community of fighters and believers. It makes me really sad that Robert is taking the full on fire hose of Dem anxiety and panic manifesting itself as s**t talking to our own. As if we need to pile on the already bad levels of anxiety that we all have as our baseline!!
I've decided the best course is to take on the task of telling everyone I can about project 2025. Not only have I been surprised at the lack of knowledge out there, but also the shock I see in people's reaction when I start listing out the stuff in this plan. It seems to end the hand wringing about Biden for the moment.
I think rather than in-fighting, our key battle is informing people on the project.
We certainly need to get back to that. Perhaps after the GOP convention, we can start drawing straight lines between P2025 and their platform.
One problem, as I see it, is that Ds are generally highly principled, while today's Rs are not. We let our principles get in the way of progress. As divided as we are over President Biden's candidacy, it's hard to see whether unity or hard feelings will rule the day.
Exactly … and you disrupt messaging when it’s not about a horse race and both clients are old. Think of it as a Vance P2025 harris matchup if you’d like
First, I am furious with Schumer (my senator) and will call him today. Interestingly, I will be able to direct my anger at the staffer who answers the phone as well. I will call all of his offices, and Hakeem Jeffries as well.
Secondly Robert, I am fuming over the cowards that email you to belittle you when you are doing everything you can to elect our presumptive nominee who was overwhelmingly voted for in our primaries. Why can they not say that here in the comments? I am betting some of them are trolls. How is it that so many "people" (sometimes it can be bots) do not remember what happened in 2016? Recall Cambridge Analytica, Russia, James Comey, "her emails". etc. Those that are actual Democrats are short sighted and cannot realize they are helping advance the dirty GOP playbook. They play dirty as that is the only way they can win! Then, with the help of the weak Dems, bots and trolls, when Joe Biden wins in November, the GOP will be empowered to say "the election was rigged!"
We need to move on from this narrative that is sowing division amongst us, just as was done in 2016. It's an unscrupulous plan delivered by the GOP, and those buying into it need to wake up and join the great majority of us that support our nominee, Joe Biden.
So true Jean. And more recently in France and the UK, it's my understanding that the polls predicted that the right wing would win. It seems too many people allow themselves to be driven by a corporate narrative, rather than thinking critically.
Yes! One of the first things a Trump administration wants to do is abolish the Department of Education. If you want to get an idea of how the quality of education would be diminished, then look at what DeSantis is doing here in Florida. Briefly, Florida has Charter Schools which are publicly funded & don’t have the same requirements to admit everyone as public schools do, and there is also a Voucher Program (paid for with tax dollars), which subsidizes tuition at private schools, including religious schools, and also includes
« home schooling ». Any family, regardless of income, qualifies for the subsidy. I don’t have a problem with anyone who wishes to send their child to a private or religious school, or who wishes to home school, but I have a problem with my tax dollars paying for it. Then shall we discuss banning books? Or DeSantis taking over (a successful) New College of Florida & changing their curriculum? With a Republican supermajority in the Florida Congress, his proposals are rubber stamped.
I think schools should require all students to take & to pass a critical thinking class & a class in logic to graduate.
Excellent points, Lynn and Jean. The amoral corporate media cares only about “clicks” and revenue, not about freedom, decency, rights and democracy. Critical thinking is so important if one follows news, otherwise media doom and gloom can prevail.
I am thankful for this supportive community, for Robert Hubbell’s encouragement and insights while writing GOTV postcards and letters to keep my chins up.
In addition to the basics (which most kids have not even mastered … I have heard of 1st grade reading levels amongst students in some Long Island, NY high schools!), critical thinking and logic are a must! Make America Smart Again.
Agreed it is buts to see how the RNC rallies around the worst type of people but Democrats including myself sometimes let perfect be the enemy of really good. It seems like the RNC, the shooting, social media and the normal media are giving all momentum to Republicans right now. I feel like we are in a heavy weight boxing match.
False Erica. I spoke with a staffer just a few days ago with Schumer's Albany office. And even so, if a VM needs to be left they have to be dealt with. I assure you, if 100's of constituents called while even having to leave a message, the staff will hear the multitude of comments
Thank you, Robert. I plan to call both Chuck Schumer 's office Phone: (202) 224-6542 and Hakeem Jeffries' office Phone: (202) 225-5936 in the morning to tell them how much they are damaging the case for Democrats, as well as impacting the morale of the hundreds of thousands of us doing the work at the grassroots level. They should circle the wagons and do the work rather than having a circular firing squad. Their anxiety and their attempt to control the future by reacting to that anxiety in this way is counter-productive.
Here's a thought: right now, the Republican convention is focusing on President Biden as the Democratic nominee. If President Biden were to decide to step aside, wouldn't it be a perfect time, right after they fold up their circus tent, to do so?
Bob I thought the same thing and the rallying cry is we need to stop the threat to Democracy and we are gong to go to war to stop it. Of course the Democrats are not that creative.
Increasingly, it feels like the Democratic leadership has slipped into a self-feeding panic, which is leading to a tragic outcome. This will be compounded if their haste and their anger with Biden lead them to disregard African-American voters.
For my third and final comment as I try to fall asleep again, I enjoy the sky photos. Making the first and 3/6 comments, I want to thank you for the little awe/wonder bonus section!
What the heck is wrong with people? If they don't like what you say, just stop following people. Somehow some Americans have lost their compass of common sense and decency. Have you hear the story that the New York Post first posted the story that the Trump shooter was a Chinese man? And it took them until Tuesday before they apologized. They ran with a false story and used the boogeyman scenario without any corroboration. So very racist, beside the fact, how would they have any idea the person was Chinese? So stupid. The press is losing so much integrity. I'm going home with the guy that brought me to the dance. All the way with Biden / Harris.
My son mentioned that rumor to me the night of the incident and was worried and fearful that if it turned out to be true, he and his sisters and I would be at risk of being harassed even within our diverse community. It breaks my heart, that my children as American-born citizens in this country could still fear for our safety based solely on our external appearance. We were so relieved to hear that it was the typical "white male shooter" but it's terrible that with so much gun violence in our country that this can be described as "typical."
Thank you Robert Hubbell. I listen to you each morning, first thing with my cup of coffee. You eloquently express all my thoughts and fears. My father, of blessed memory, used to say to me and my sister, "Don't kid yourselves, it could happen here". He was lucky enough to gain entry into the US in 1938, his mother was found, caught and murdered at Auschwitz. And so another form of "it" is happening here and I fear too many people are blind to it. Keep writing, keep bringing me hope. Keep helping us open those blind eyes. I stand with you. I stand with Joe Biden - I always have and still do.
Robert, I am in awe of your steadfast support for our democracy as you try to navigate the opinions of some of your readers who disagree with you. Today's Edition is a vital part of my daily intake of the important news of the day. I want to see you continue publishing it.
As for all the back-and-forth about Joe Biden needing to "step aside," I have yet to hear a credible alternative be offered in his place. In the meantime, like you, I'm hunkering down with Field Team 6 to help to register Democratic voters for the coming election.
In the meantime, let's focus our energy on countering the GOP and not ourselves.
Thank you for you. The existential fear democrats have is super understandable. But yes. Both Biden is the best president of the last 75 years, and the headliner name is besides the point, and people will be voting about all the other rights.
Yep, like Robert says, we need to stay the course. Here's sharing some bits of irony and amusement from today:
On 7/17/24 at 5:02 pm, the male news reader on LAist, an NPR station in Southern California, introduced the news that Adam Schiff said Biden can’t win by saying “California Republican, Adam Schiff…”. Yet another media gaffe with impunity, or wicked subterfuge by a progressive copywriter?
PSA for white establishment Democrats (TCinLA would approve!):
Trump fell asleep during the RNC convention on 7/17/24, including during the speeches of his son Donald Trump Jr and running mate J.D. Vance (and on 7/15/24 unnoticed by the MSNBC commentators):
Finally, in response to righteous anger against Adam Schiff, some people are advocating to write in Katie Porter. Let's not compound the problem by shooting ourselves in the foot in favor of Steve Garvey!
Thank goodness for the stars. Thank goodness for the permanence ( give or take a few billion years) of things outside of human circumstance. It would be good for us all to pause there, contemplate, and breathe for a moment. After this relative nanosecond of events, we STILL will have hard work to do, however this cookie crumbles. (We sure do like screwing up recipes, don’t we.) Breathe, folks! We.cannot.give.birth.unless.we.breathe.
I just have to say If Biden is taken off the ballot the door it opens to massive voter litigation and challenges by Rs. And just know the election will be stalled and in the courts..Basically the election will be over.
THIS HAS MASSIVE CONSEQUENCES. See Marc Elias please. Get educated! Think it through! and please stop casually saying "if...Biden..." There is NO REASON our best president should be taken down by the MSM and everyone unquestioningly going along with it. It is DESTABILIZING. And fool on us when the media starts attacking a replacement!! C'mon people..wake up!!
It has dire consequences and the voting will be in turmoil, really if anyone thinks the Rs aren't lined up up to challenge every primary state ballot ....then stop calling them stupid...
enough of my rant right now. Check out Democracy Docket
Marc Elias on Molly Jong-Fast last week and GET INFORMED !!!
You are so very right! I cannot understand the explanation for why the misplaced call to remove Biden will not die! He has demonstrated over and over and over that he is competent, indeed, one of our most competent presidents to date, and yet his own party turns against him? I agree the only explanation is that Democrats are panicking like a swimmer who is drowning and fights the lifeguard who would save them.
If I was Adam Schiff, I wouldn't want to read the comments section in today's LA Times fort the article reporting his statement about President Biden. "I will never vote for you again!" and "Drop dead!" are running 10-1 ahead of any support for his shit. I wrote to Adam Schiff today to express my disappointment. Good idea to also contact Schumer and Jeffries. So upsetting!
I called Adam Schiff's Senate campaign office:
818-841-2828
His mailbox is full, let’s hope that means he’s getting lots of calls about this.
When writing or calling Schiff, also please complain that when he tweeted about the assassination attempt, he referred to him as "President trump". A freudian slip? Seems the Congressman is trying to tell us something? He's nothing more than a turncoat!
I would not call Schiff a turncoat. He has simply disappointed many of us.
This is MUCH worse than disappointment. It’s a betrayal. He is subverting our vote.
So disappointing…I heard him in an interview refer to tfg as an s.o.b. He is drifting in the wind. So disappointing.
I thought once a person became a presient of the United States. They were entitled to use the title of president before their name for the rest of their lives.
In Trump's case I make an exception. He claims, falsely, that he actually won the 2020 election.
So, calling him "President Trump" inadvertently feeds the false notion that he's still the Prez, or oughtta be.
This is exactly the kind of confusion that the Steve Bannons of the world -- and the Vladimir Putins of the world, use to "flood the zone."
Also call his DC office, (202) 225-4176
This the number I used
I'll try to call today, during my break. I make a small donation to him, monthly. I am now reconsidering re-allocating that money to Biden.
That's the problem. There is no better plan. Not one person has answered the Now What question if Biden were to drop out.
Has to be done
I wrote to Schiff as well, twice, but Congressional offices filter people who are outside the district. So I faked an address. I don't know whether that got through. Hit his campaign they solicit for donors from other states
I actually emailed his senatorial candidacy office.
I think someone else should take over Senate leadership. Schumer doesn't have what it takes at this time.
Hit Schumer yesterday too - but my own sen in
I supported Katie Porter in the primary. I believe I was right more than than ever.
I like Schiff but lost a lot of respect for him after that.
My husband and I feel the same. In fact, Hubby donated to Schiff way back when, and regrets it. I told him he should contact Schiff's office and demand his money back!!
Me, too.
I thought it was selfish of Adam Schiff to jump in. We needed both Katie Porter and Adam Schiff (despite his current media comments). I am sorry Adams Schiff felt compelled to step over Katie Porter. She is a voice that we need!

A character test is to see if you have any. Schiff has flunked.
Agree.
Really well done TC. Perhaps the revolution is coming to the Democratic party.
Spot on TC. "Surrender monkeys" is a great term for them.
I don’t care if the HAVE to switch for HEALTH reasons - but there is a manner do this that is PROFESSIONAL and not chaotic . This back room drip drip shut show is not it

I called his office and basically said "what the H*** am I doing down here in the trenches talking my head off about project 2025 and you're pulling the plug on the bath water?! Thanks Adam! from a former donor and about a couple million other sloggers in the trenches"
I’m sure you’ve read this excellent article from Reed Galen, but if not: https://open.substack.com/pub/reedgalen/p/premature-capitulation?r=6o957&utm_campaign=post&utm_medium=web
Thanks for this link. I sent it around to some folks I know.
“ If Nancy Pelosi wants to send a message, let hert speak up herself, and if it's that Biden's too old, she'd best move out of her glass house first.”
Nancy Pelosi is smarter than that. If she wants to criticize Biden’s energy level, she won’t equate it to age.
He solicits $ from out of state - I received a solicitation for his campaign . I forwarded my feedback .
Thanks, that's good advice. I have responded to his campaign because I have given more than his average donor and I am living in Indiana.
Good for you!
What is your wrong? The risk is too great.
What if you are wrong? The risk is also too great.
Stephen, there’s a right way to go about this and a wrong way - they’re going
Going about it the wrong way- it’s a shit show - the negative focus was finally on the the GOP circus abd P2025 and nope , these folks got

In any case, whether you're for or against his candidacy, our opponents are the ones in Milwaukee, embracing Project 2025.
yes. we both agree, a nuanced and objective approach to the discussion, as opposed to a divisive one! Thank you.
They're not serious people, but they are a serious threat to the rest of us. History will judge President Biden, if we last that long.
Sadly, the people who are insulting me are long-time paying subscribers. I unsubscribe them and refund their money.
Thank you, Robert, for your steadfast leadership and analysis. We need you!
I find that sad as well
I'm so sorry... a divide within a divide... so dangerous. :(
I am terribly sorry to hear this Robert. I feel they are being manipulated and will hopefully wake up soon to that fact.
Yes, so true ! Where are their memories of 2016, where the polls predicted an easy win for HRC ? How can anyone trust a poll after that ?
***Gets down from soapbox…***
Yes, Jean ! Project 2025 is not a plan for the future. It is happening NOW in Florida….and elsewhere.
Great points Jean! This BS narrative about Biden also keeps us from talking about P2025 and the horrid person the Convicted Felon picked as his VP!
It shifts the narrative —— now we are talking about why we need to stop talking about Biden —
Might want to change the motto, though. Not sure about wearing hats with the initials « MASA »….
I trusted the polls in 2016 and was complacent, never again.
Good luck ever getting a live person. Doesn’t matter what time (business hours) you call or which office.
False Erica. I spoke with a staffer just a few days ago with Schumer's Albany office. And even so, if a VM needs to be left they have to be dealt with. I assure you, if 100's of constituents called while even having to leave a message, the staff will hear the multitude of comments
They count the numbers tone of a representative sample - they’ve got their finger on the pulse
Wrong, sorry. I just spoke with a staffer at Schumer's DC office. She made sure to take my zip code, too.
I found the Solnit piece perfect, as well.
What we need to get rid of after November are the "elite" traitors.
You sound just like Trump who wants revenge on his traitors.
I didn't even want to respond to that kind of talk.
Thank you for doing so.
Here's a thought: right now, the Republican convention is focusing on President Biden as the Democratic nominee. If President Biden were to decide to step aside, wouldn't it be a perfect time, right after they fold up their circus tent, to do so?
No. Terrible idea.
Bob I thought the same thing and the rallying cry is we need to stop the threat to Democracy and we are gong to go to war to stop it. Of course the Democrats are not that creative.
Keep talking about the opponent - not us - the DNC can sort out the situation . Talk about P2025 and GOO
I agree 110% !!! 🤩🤩🤩
Please keep posting the sky photos!
Agreed. Your love, skill and knowledgeability as an amateur astronomer are impressive.
I am so sorry to hear that your community is STILL targeted based solely on your appearance.
Will America ever learn?
JustRaven - just a few anti- Chinese anti-Asian laws passed. First five, specifically Chinese. It's good to keep your children aware. Thanks!

Keep talking about THEM not BIDEN
Keeping my head down, working to elect Democrats

At the RNC on 7/17/24, Trump walked out to the song “It’s a Man’s World:”

You're on fire, Ellie!
Yes ! 🔥🔥🔥
That is another angle they are playing - BrILLIANT thanks for the ten
Reminder -!!!🎯
Thank you, Robert. I am writing post cards to Ohio to help me stay sane and do something every day.
