It looks like we won the majority in the Michigan State Senate!!! First time since 1983. This is huge and The States Project Giving Circles put lots into this!!! Having one chamber for 2024 will be so important if Trump loses the majority in the state. He will not be able to get the state legislature to swing the election or create chaos.I'm sure all the state leg candidates who knocked tons of doors helped Governor Whitmer and Sec. of State Bensen keep their seats too.

If there is a runoff in Georgia, PostcardsToVoters.org volunteers will be writing for it. They handwrote over 2 million for Warnock & Ossoff in 2020. But this time we have much less time so we are going to need so much help!! Get ready and convince friends to get ready too!! Get postcards and stamps! Think big.

Thanks Robert, for everything!!

Thanks for the heads up about a possible GA runoff. Will be postcarding if necessary, Sarah!

So glad Spanberger and Wexton won. But crushed that Luria did not. Had all kinds of trouble getting our two VA Tech boys absentee ballots cast because of issues with Youngkin’s election office in Richmond. Would love to here your thoughts on the VA races.

Expand full comment

Me too Vivian, it's bittersweet with Luria's loss. Did you read of Youngkin's written apology to NP, calculated no doubt... Still concerned for our state & our children, but Wexton & Spanberger wins allow us to fight another day, as I hold out hope for news of my local school board here in LoCo.

Did your boys' ballots finally get cast, Vivian?

I don't know if what I know helps but:

I live in a small rural-ish town that's part of Loudoun County in the northwestern section of the state, adjacent to the Potomac River. Being less than 50 miles away from D.C. with access to a commuter train, transplants like me account for the likely D voters who have bought small pieces of land from farmers whose families have lived here for generations. My guess is they are R's. Yard signs from 2020's election showed my town as split about 50/50 between D and R. There were hardly any signs this election cycle. I'm not sure why but their absence did not affect the outcome for our candidate, Jennifer Wexton.

Following the Potomac River down toward D.C. it is more densely populated - more densely D, Fairfax County, Arlington County.

Elaine Luria's district (which changed after redistricting more so than Wexton's) is down in the southeastern part of the state, coastal, where the navy lies - Norfolk, Virginia Beach...Navy towns! So I guess that means they vote R more so than D.

The southwestern part of the state, very rural, closer to KY and NC. So guessing very R.

Actually, it's remarkable to me that we have two D Senators and several D Congressional representatives and until last year, a D governor!

Thanks Lynell. Both their votes were counted thankfully. Grateful to our state Senator, Scott Surovell’s office who helped us get that information to insure their votes were counted.

I had forgotten about the big changes and redistricting. We’re in Rep. Beyer’s disturb just south of Old Town. The Dems here were sending us to help work for Rep. Spanberger, Wexton, and Luria’s campaigns. We worked for Spanberger.

Glad to hear they got help!

I found out last minute that Elaine Luria was in trouble. High marks for all your hard work for Spanberger. Beyer is terrific!

Did you see this in Robert Hubbell's post today? Focus is on postcards to young voters. I think I'll start with them. https://thecivicscenter.org/

Received this email yesterday from Vote Forward: "Starting tomorrow, we'll be launching new Georgia-focused letter campaigns. Because the December 6 election date is so soon, we’ll be writing and mailing these letters right away—no waiting for a future mail date. This is exciting stuff, and it’s happening quickly, so stay tuned for more details tomorrow."

I expect PostcardsToVoters will soon begin as well. I'll probably do a bit of both. My writing hand starts seizing up after about 3 cards or letters but we'll see.

I just did a quick online search and found this site for postcards & stamps: https://shop.bluewavepostcards.org/collections/georgia-runoff-election-mobilization-campaign

Mailed 20 Vote Forward letters yesterday. Awaiting 40 postcards from TheCivicsCenter.org to send to young Georgia voters. Those are harder on my hand but I aim to get them in the mail before 11/28-29.

So many thoughts running through my head… but yeah, Dems did really well considering, and even not considering. Looks like they will keep the Senate + 1, with or without Georgia, and the House actually is in the balance.

Word on the street is super Q Republicans are befuddled. I think Trump just made himself irrelevant.

And all the pro-life/pro-choice ballot measures went for pro-choice, so yay!

Look forward to your observations tomorrow. Thanks for keeping me sane 😁

DW, tRump becoming irrelevant would be a wonderful thing for our country.

Wealthy Ted Budd, election denier and seditionist won NC's Senate seat. He does not give a rat's behind about the poor folks in the coastal plain, piedmont, or the mountains. All the BS Republican talk about "freedom" is just that--BS. How free are you if your insulin costs are astronomical or your car broke down and you have to skip meals to pay to fix it? My state is represented by people whose ideas the majority of Americans don't want. Most days, I feel unrepresented because I am not an uber millionaire. I am grieving Cheri Beasley's and Val Demings'sand Tim Ryan's losses. JD Vance, really people?!!!! (I lived in Ohio for 17 years.) Start working on 2024 next week after taking time to assess. Mostly address the messaging problem. It's time to ROAR, not squeak and do NOT apologize for wanting all of us this time to have a fair shake.

Expand full comment

Re Vance versus Ryan: I understand that the national Democratic Party gave Tim Ryan *zero* financial support. Was Ryan insufficiently liberal/progressive in their eyes, or was there some other reason for the non-support? Rank-and-file Democrats deserve an explanation.

Why wait ‘til next week to start on 2024?

Expand full comment

Not to be snarky – but months ago, too Democrats had their eyes on 2024 instead of 2022. Case in point: all the talk (truly silly and destructive) about whether Biden will seek re-election.

Expand full comment

Jenn, I share your pain re: Beasley's loss. IMO the entire NCDP is in need of an overhaul. Our western NC county (Buncombe) rocked however, decisively electing 3 new Dem state reps, total blue county commissioner takeover, handily reelecting our awesome black sheriff, passed 2 progressive bonds by wide margins. Would that all NC would pay attention to our local leadership/tactics. Ultimately, all politics are local.

I've been helping w/ absentee ballot cures in GA. Will pivot to where ever the need is greatest (NV, AZ, maybe NC) vs runoff in GA. So rewarding helping a disenfranchised voter restore their ballot- great despair antidote!

I signed up to preside over a very busy precinct on ED- meant I had to cease electioneering and my routine of daily canvassing which I find so gratifying. But yesterday for 13 ++ hours of exhausting, nonpartisan work, it was incredibly gratifying to see so very many young determined voters turn out: made all the effort worthwhile.

Jenn, I'm sorry for the loss in your state of NC. As well for FL and OH. This we will remember as we look toward 2024.

Right now, the GA senate race is likely not going to decide the Senate, which as observers have pointed out may mean lots of people who held their nose to vote Walker to maintain senate control may not show up on December 6. Of GA, AZ NV Senate races - where Democrats are currently ahead in all three, R's have to win 2 of 3 to get control of the Senate. Ain't gonna happen.

If it comes down to R control of the House 219-216 or even 218-217 which is also predicted, watch Kevin McQarthy get tossed. A majority like that will be ungovernable. It will be the bunch of them jumping up and down and throwing their feces through the cage bars to shock observers,

Lauren Boebert is losing!!

Kari Lake, the Bimbette of Phoenix, is losing.

The Big Loser tonight is El Jefe Del Merde A Loco. Only JD Vance of his annointed has won. None of the election deniers running for SecState won. He has no way to steal 2024 even if the Rs take the house that narrowly. Watch next Monday come and go without a Bigly Announcement.

We won the secretary of state elections in Pennsylvania and Michigan, and are on track to win them in Nevada and Arizona too. These were great results for Democracy. Even if Trump does run again, he won't be able to steal those states. It's heartening to see the general public care about Democracy.

In Pennsylvania, the Secretary of State is *appointed* by the Governor. That’s a big reason why Democrats *had* to win the governorship.

Super sad about GA and can’t believe how close the Warnock/Walker race is! There’s Johnson/Barnes...geeezzzusss! It’s hard not to be questioning where the messengers are in the Dem Party. That is our downfall...big time. Very glad CA passed the abortion language to be permanently put into our state constitution. As far as Trump is concerned, he became an albatross around their necks. The candidates wanted to throw him in the bushes and a lot did.

Marlene, some results are sad, I agree. Wish I didn't suffer from instant memory loss, but I did read or hear just a few hours ago from some pundit that it is likely a good thing if Democrats don't have a complete takeover of Congress. Having R's running around causing "chaos" for all to see could actually hand Democrats a victory in the 2024 presidential election, that person said.

Yes, I suspect we may have given Rs just enough rope to hang themselves with. And I'm actually glad that Nancy Pelosi can step down from the Speakership, take care of her family, and enjoy a well deserved rest.

The election in Florida was a disappointment in many ways. On a 2-page ballot my choices prevailed in only a handful of races. But even then, there's much to be proud of. My district is sending Congress its first Gen Z representative, the remarkable Maxwell Frost! In Orange County, we held vital legislative seats. And in a deep blue Orlando precinct known as the Milk District, I joined other adopt-a-precinct volunteers to work the polls. We welcomed more than 1,000 voters -- many young and with kids in tow. We celebrated 2 first-time voters, and we worked to make voting an enjoyable experience for all. Our precinct voted overwhelmingly for Dems and progressive ballot issues. Democracy will not die on our watch!!

I am so proud of the efforts of Democratic supporters who stood up and fought for preserving Democracy. There were many small wins across the country in local elections, everything from house seats, mayors and governors etc and more importantly a new group of young voters, women and people of color came out for the first time. The turnout rate I am sure was off the charts. Democrats have to learn from this election and adjust accordingly and focus on fixing the economy and continue to recruit qualified candidates. I am predicting Congress will be deadlocked going forward but if the economy improves and we keep the loss of freedom of choice on the front burner we will go into 2024 in better shape. Democracy stumbled a bit but was not knocked out and we are still

standing. We need to keep on fighting.

Michael Moore wrote this encouraging piece as part of his Midterm Tsunami : “We win either way today because love and kindness always wins out over hate and greed….And when we win today (or tomorrow or 2024) we will fight to better the lives of everyone-including and especially the lives of those burdened with hate and confusion over what it should mean to be an American….

Well you eased our pain going into this election and the lesson is we don't know what we don't know until it happens. Those Dems did not do so badly. Fetterman with his ease and hoodie claimed his seat and many other states in question having slim margins continue with unknown outcomes. But, at this hour the Blue and Red team is neck and neck. Tune in tomorrow to see if the Democrats hold onto the House and who will win the Los Angeles Mayoral race.
