And what about the US Secret Service? There is much evidence to suggest that there were very significant lapses in protocol and perhaps even allegiance to the Constitution among agents throughout Trump’s tenure and especially surrounding the insurrection, right?

There, but for the grace of God, went the Secret Service agents who prevented Trump from going to the Capitol, that harrowing day.

HCR today listed more GOP atrocities in her newsletter. I also have learned that DeSantis was at Guantanamo. I am fully engaged and enraged, but I am still trying to figure out how to bypass the stranglehold of corporate power and lobbies over citizens in our democracy, regardless of political party!

Yes, and apparently he “oversaw” some of the torture of the prisoners there. He is a monster.

Sen. Ted Cruz and other Republicans today demonstrated a combination of moronic thinking and vile manners. As unpleasant as it is to watch their temper tantrums, I think we on the progressive side must sit back and watch them behave this way. The GOP, especially its MAGA wing, already represents a minority of Americans. Their continuing infantile behavior will only further shrivel the number of voters prepared to elect them, leading to a solid drubbing of the shrinking Republican Party in 2024. They will find that there is a large and growing majority in America that strongly supports DEMOCRACY.

Rafael Cruz is one Texican who should thank his lucky stars that the old Texanism "He *needed* killin'!" is no longer a defense to "termination... with extreme prejudice..." which Rafael is in dire need of since his College freshman dorm roomates decided not to throw him out the third floor window for being an "unredeemable asshole."

"There are other possible answers, including sloth, negligence, hubris, indifference, or incompetence. "

No "possible" involved - those ARE the answers, and Wray is an incompetent moron and has been since he replaced that damned idiot so certain of his own genius Comey .

Back in the J. Edgar Fruitfly days, we used to call them "Fools & Buffoons, Inc." They still are. They're the most overrated collection of clucks in this country.

The FBI gave us Trump in 2016. They would like to do it again in 2024. Eternal vigilance is needed to prevent them from achieving their goal.

Excellent summary of the day's events ,especially the idiocy of the GOP propaganda sound bite committee that has no integrity attempt to demonize Merrick garland. Don't think 🤔 they'll be laughing when they are facing accountability for any culpability of J6 insurrectionists as well as their current attempts of obstruction of justice with their shenanigans.

Sounds like it's definitely Time for a change of leadership at FBI as well as an accounting of their J6 awareness or lack thereof.

The sooner the better!!

I wish the citizens of Texas the best with their attempts for true representation but fear 😨 the gerrymandering machine down there will find a way to smother their legitimate concerns 😟.

As for Florida, I'm afraid DeSantis is going to push his gerrymandered power as far as he can to prove to today's GOP why he should get the nod, all at the expense of his citizens 🤔 Couldn't believe he has the gall to call his book Courage to be Free when he has taken so many freedoms from so many people 😕 Welcome to his Sunshine 🌞 Reich!!!

I think one of the reasons people have such high regard for the FBI is that they watch those stupid series in which some agency or another is imbued with qualities of integrity, compassion, honesty, and intelligence. Nothing could be further from the truth.

Another similar area in entertainment media are series that depict the police. If you watched Blue Bloods, you would come away with the conclusion that the NYPD is squeaky clean.

Once again, I thank you for this very informative post. I just signed up with "Check My Ads"-CMA- and will now be able to notify advertisers that their ads are going to Fox News, when they may not have been aware of this. This seems simple but also very powerful. Each day, I try to take action, mostly small, to help us to save our democracy from the many fascists among us. Again, thanks!

Based on a recommendation by Robert I visited https://checkmyads.org/fox/ and I am excited that this organization and group with our help and support and those of others can make a difference. Large corporate donations support many MAGNA candidates and programs in part because it is viewed as “ a cost of doing business “ and partly out of fear of retribution. If we can make our views known to the corporate sponsors and threaten to boycott their products that becomes a very valuable weapon that can have a meaningful impact. A great example is yesterday Eli Lilly caped the price of insulin at $35: Republicans ALL voted against the Inflation Reduction Act and explicitly stripped from it a measure that would have capped insulin at $35 for those not ion Medicare and they continue to oppose the measure. Those corporate sponsors of Republicans who voted against the Inflation Reduction Act can be held accountable by going after their funding and sending a message. Making supporting MAGNA costly is a worthy goal. Check it out.

Should we not make the point that the Democrats in the south pre-and post-Civil War actually became the republican party so therefore, they’re suggesting they should outlaw themselves? What a good idea!

The GOP are perfecting political alchemy, turning lies into truths, deflecting shame by projecting blame and inventing false narratives as authoritative reporting. By creating this alternative theater, platforms for legitimate debate are annihilated leaving disharmonic melodies competing to be heard.

The Democrats must compete aggressively to proclaim our truths to counter this GOP propaganda generator.

Carny barking has become the new political messaging strategy, now it's time to see who really has "the greatest show on earth"!

Kudos to grassroots efforts in Texas for a statewide citizen ballot initiative.

Our Florida constitution has allowed citizens ‘ initiatives since the 60’s. Unfortunately legislators are not friendly to the process. We now have a supermajority requirement /60%) for constitutional amendments. A House resolution introduced this session would further raise the threshold to nearly 67%. This is largely a result of DeSantis’s vengeance on Florida voters who approved Amend 4 that allowed felons to register to vote after they complete their terms of sentence and parole.

And even when citizens voted overwhelmingly to permit former felons to vote, the Florida Republican legislature managed to quash it anyway!

I will not go to Florida as long as republicans are in power. Not for business or personal and I sadly have a lot of family down there (NY migration & snowbirds). TBH I'm not going to any of the 34 states that have republican majority. And I highly recommend that others reconsider as well. Especially women of child bearing age or pregnant. Heck if I were pregnant I wouldn't even fly over those states. Can you imagine coming from a state where reproductive rights are enforced and then haven't an emergency in a state where they will let you die?

--A difficult read this morning (psychologically speaking), but I remain determined. The fact that MSM treats DeSantis like a credible presidential candidate becomes more disheartening every day.

--ALSO, Robert, I would life to hear your reactions to and thoughts about The S. Judiciary Committee’s hearing on Tuesday regarding the ERA and removing the deadline that’s keeping it out of our Constitution. I had major flashbacks to Phyllis Schlafly’s reign of terror in the 70s.

Great post today Mr. Hubbell as always! This is the content on the internet that I look forward to. I had some questions around your thoughts of the recent anti drag legislation in Texas where lawmaker Nate Schatzline who dressed in drag himself. Even though he said when he did it, it wasn't necessarily sexual. Also did you hear that Jack Dorsey recently launched Blue Sky? It's like the last thing I thought we needed, another social media platform lol.

Additionally, any thoughts on the recent Senate Judiciary Committee review on the ratification on the Equal Rights Amendment? I don't know why it can't be a simple constitutional amendment even though it passed the 7 year initial requirement. Congress can make laws whenever they want. I find it absurd that some states tried to repeal their earlier ratification and other far right lawmakers just don't want to give women equal rights protection under the law. How do we move forward with this now? Does the whole process restart?

Expand full comment

But he assumes that, today, dressing in drag is sexual. Drag is not the same as someone who is trans, and in any case, trans people are neither more nor less sexual than anyone who is heterosexual. Not that I expect Schatzline or anyone else who is on a crusade against LGBTQ to get it or even care.
