It's frustrating to read right-wingers decrying the "thousands of Americans" left behind in Afghanistan while the mainstream media gives no facts about 1) how many are there (even a reasonable estimate would suffice) 2) why they are there in the first place 3) if they want to get out and 4) if they want to get out, why did they not do so in the several months leading up to the military evacuation?
I am saving this column: thank you, Robert, for truth-telling. The Editorial Board of WaPo is so disappointing. Unfortunately, they are not up to the level of their guest columnist, Jennifer Rubin. The emotional cost of the War will be enough to bear without the equivocation of the Press. There are no words for the tragedy evident in Ida’s wake, an event that also calls on the heroism of recovery efforts. Biden has clearly demonstrated that he knows what he is doing: thank you for supporting his efforts. As for the anti-masking parent shamers—shame on you!
I'm grateful for your daily commentary and links, very concerned that here in Naples we have a dedicated Trump admirer threatening to establish a "Sanctuary City" in Naples modeled on the Texas law. I wonder can we find the thread to the source of funding for these nationwide efforts?
Pres. Biden did not use a magic marker like the ignoramus who proceeded him, he heeded the warnings of National Hurricane Center and with confidence and detailed planning he marshalled the agencies of the federal government, coordinated with state agencies to PREPARE IN ADVANCE to care for our citizens during and after the storm. We can be grateful we have a captain at the helm with wisdom and experience.

The Slate article by Lithwick and Stern about SB 8 in Texas is a must read. Thanks for including the link.
I want to support you fully. Can I be given a chance to be a monthly supporter again? I look forward to your newsletter each day.
