If I hear one more "news" pundit go on and on about how Biden (yes, Biden) is supposed to do more to get the voting rights Bill's passed, I'm going to lose it. Ditto how the Democrats are supposed to be more clever in controlling the lying narrative the GOP are peddling. I think Biden and the Democrats (not counting the faux Democrats) are doing a hell of a job. They are only human, trying to hold onto their humanity. I'm proud to be supporting them. And all they are trying to do for America.
The hesitancy of Merrick Garland to bring down the hammer on Bannon (at the very least) and so many of those who would destroy our country is making many of us wild with frustration....let's hope he awakens from his slumber soon, because what is the point of the law without the application of deserved consequences?
“The decency of Joe Biden:” what a ringing phrase! I felt the difference in the Halloween celebrations, too. I really want to believe that Garland will act, but he has been a very quiet AG, and as you note, time is running out. The whole nasty gang of crooks should be rounded up and tried. Obviously, I do not see any good faith coming from January 6. I’m glad you referenced Reich’s essay. It reminds me a great deal of the optimism and common sense provided daily by one Robert Hubbell. You are irreplaceable in your faithfulness to your readers. Thankyou.
Sorry, Robert, but I have to disagree with you about one statement you make: That the BBB will not increase the deficit. While I believe that it will pave the way for economic progress that will dwarf an deficit increase, I also believe that the accounting that shows it will not is--to coin a phrase--voodoo economics.
It is becoming more voodoo economics as time goes by. Biden originally proposed raising the corporate tax rate and individual rate to a level that would have generated $2 trillion; add to that $700 billion from government negotiation of Medicare drug prices, and you can easily pay for a $1.7 trillion bill. But cut both of those out, and it becomes more difficult to pay for the benefits. If Manchin and Sinema would agree to any revenue generating proposals, it would be more certain that BBB would not raise the deficit.
Just read the Washington Post massive reporting on Jan 6. Well researched and documented. Horrifyingly thorough. Coast-to-coast red flags were ignored leading up to the attack. Is this the foundation of the legal process impending? I need fresh air and am going for a walk. Our democracy is fragile.
Robert can you tell me how you would bring an indictment against John Eastman whose defense of his memo will be that he was interpreting the law and urging people in authority to exercise their powers under the law.
In a related matter , wouldn't it be appropriate to urge the Federalist Society to expel Eastman as a member for his efforts to put forth a spurious interpretation of the law to justify the executive branch of our country undermining the power of congress to certify elections. Naturally all of these matters will end up before the Supreme Court with six extremely members of the cult known as the Federalist Society.

Yes, agree!

Agree 100%!

Thanks, Jim. I appreciate your kind words.
Thanks for suggesting Robert Reich’s essay. Resilience is demonstrated in ways ranging from WaPo’s Jan 6 report ... to carefree trick-or-treating!

Exactly my point. Or close enough for government work.

Surely someone is thinking of disbarment. Please, God, tell me someone is thinking of disbarment.
