First, my California "No" vote ballot was timely deposited in my PO dropbox. I did that little (i.e. big) part.
Second, I watched the documentary "9/11" and "Memory Box" in my personal 9/11 TV binge on Sunday and am struck by how far Americans (especially white, supposedly religious ones) have traveled from selflessness to selfishness in only 20 years. I watched people come together, personally risking their lives for strangers of all colors, and now "freedom" stands for placing your neighbors' children at risk and democracy stands for grabbing whatever financial advantage and power you can for yourself. All I can say is that the ultimate rally cry of losing the tall, strong symbols of monetary wealth in a horrific display of suffering was to unabashedly worship money. The current grab for power and wealth seems like a ghost of Jacob Marley's corrupted nature.
How can we be reminded of 9/11 on Sunday and ignore all its lessons by the very next morning? I'm shaking my head at the losses we now make in vain.
Amy Barrett and other judges are a product the specific long term effort by the Federalist Society to pack the courts at every level with so called "partisan hacks". Is there an organization that is involved with guiding law students to the courts that are "liberal minded"? Is there an effort to promote potential jurists who support a modern compassionate focus on social justice? True democracy and equality vs "originalist" white supremacy?
Hi, Bill. I am unaware of any such organization with similar goals for liberal justices. There should be one. If anyone is aware a similar organization, let me know!
Hahaha. The Party? Just give me AOC and Bernie. Forget the legal system. It's as useless as the Democrats Party. It can't influence Manchin and Sinema. We're drowning and Manchin is holding us under.
Fingers still crossed re: KNP fire. Thank you for taking down the Supremes, including Breyer, but especially Barrett and Kavanaugh: any friend of McConnell is not a friend of mine. Bless the blued grey hair on Manachin’s head, as we say in the South. The compromise on the tax-the-wealthy is somewhat disappointing. I suppose repealing the Citizens United Act, where the worrisome corporate campaign dollars are, is still worth pursuing?. Addressing inequality still relies on the actions and attitudes of everyday citizens as much as it does any taxation mandate.
I am puzzled by the unwillingness of moderate Democrats to tax wealth at any level. There are 500+ billionaires in the U.S. A 1% tax on them would raise hundreds of billions per year.
Sending our very best wishes for your cabin. Carol and Marco Straforini. We understand a bit--Yosemite is the home of our hearts. We go four or five times a year. You will be in our thoughts.
Republicans have never been, and will never be, satisfied with "pay as you go." They have always accused Democrats of being "tax and spend," while they prefer "borrow and spend," i.e. kick the can down the road for children and grandchildren to pay for. They call themselves fiscally responsible, but they are, in fact, the opposite as has been borne out since Saint Ronnie was president.
First, Robert my fingers remain crossed for your cabin and those of your neighbors.
Then, I am constrained to point out that "gift" is not a transitive verb. (What's wrong with plain, old-fashioned "give?" And don't get me started on "proactive.")
As for Justice Breyer, you are surely right. And Justice Barrett's partisan hackdom is conclusive proof.

Couldn’t have said it better! My thoughts exactly!
Well said!

I have no legal background. Curious...

There is The American Constitution Society--https://www.acslaw.org/--which has started a day late and a dollar short, but still it's there. And from what I have read it's growing, if slowly. [Money, campus organizations, etc.] There is this overview from Jan. 2019: https://www.politico.com/magazine/story/2019/01/23/why-theres-no-liberal-federalist-society-224033/
We have been and are praying for your treasured cabin and associated community of historic cabins to be protected from the fire.🙏🏽

Sending good thought for safety during the fire. What a time!
Thanks for your logic on pushing Justice Breyer to retire; you make more sense than the justice! I hope your cabin survives!
