A couple of things: First, Republicans blocked a bill that would have strengthened laws requiring equal pay for men and women. Remind me, now, what percentage of the voters are female? As I've been saying, the Republican Party is a zombie, blundering around without thought.

Second, thanks for pointing out that Pro Publica's good intentions do not excuse its publication of personal tax information. While the Administration should be careful not to tread on First Amendment rights--the scope of which are not always clear in cases like this--a very intensive investigation of the leak and its source is needed.

And a very happy birthday to your better half. (Figuratively AND literally. :~) )

I remember Daniel Ellsberg obtained the Pentagon Papers - Robert McNamara's history of US political and military involvement in Vietnam from 1945 to 1967. That was a service to us all. ProPublica is providing a similar service to the country by releasing this tax information. Let's hope it shapes public policy.

I’m a big fan of your newsletter.

Can you advise me on the best place to spend my donation dollars? Biggest bang for the buck? I get lots of solicitation email for Dems and I want to put those dollars where they’ll do the most good. Thanks!

Most of my political donations go to individual candidates. That's really why I write the notes -- to identify Democrats for whom donations could make a difference between winning and losing. Look at the Notes. Look at the previous Notes on the website www.lenspoliticalnotes.com. Consider candidates by region or the ones you particularly like. I do also give to the national Democratic organizations. Having a strong political party is important even if they sometimes make bonehead decisions such as ignoring TX 06.
