Another morning when I am so grateful to Robert Hubbell and his "clarifications". And his "can do" spirit.

My observation (again) about the Trump Cult Coup. The House Committee investigation is an investigation. WE will believe it's report. The Cult will not believe it. The Cult will not care. The Cult will not see Trump, Bannon or Stone as threats to democracy. Then what?

Where is the Justice Department investigation? IS there one surrounding January 6th? Why have the arrests stopped at the rabble who broke into the Capitol? Why aren't the organizers being interviewed by the DOJ and subsequently charged?

"Where is Merrick Garland?" is feeling like "Where is Waldo?" Nine months have passed, Mr. Attorney General - head LAW ENFORCEMENT officer of the United States of America. Where are you?

Thanks, Bill. I feel exactly the same way about the absence of a criminal prosecution of the insurrection leaders. It is long past time for the DOJ to act.

“Don’t believe everything you read on the Internet.” THOSE are words to live by, in fact, I said the same thing last night to my Zoom class of aspiring librarians. Raw Story and Politico are bad enough alarmists on occasion, but even respected news sources like WaPo and NYT buy into the counter narrative method of selling sensational (i.e. negative) news, and it does a real disservice to national morale as we have seen especially in the past five years. I have ceased believing that Manchin and Sinema are acting in good faith, and Merrick Garland has drug his heels until I wonder if he has any control over the DOJ. You certainly see the situation clearly, and I am grateful for your presence in my day.

Jim, I agree. Manchin and Sinema are acting in self interest, not good faith.

Wait a minute! Don't believe everything on the Internet? You mean horse-serum does not cure Covid? You mean that Trump was not defrauded out of victory in 2020? Yikes!

But seriously the MOST IMPORTANT issue this week is to get Sen. Manchin to agree to limit the filibuster so that it will not affect the voting rights bill that is by now largely his creation. My senators are Warren and Markey, and I expect that they have limited sway with the senior senator from the great state of West Virginia, but I'm going to call their offices and tell them to work on Manchin any way they can. (Is blackmail in the service of a noble cause acceptable?) I suggest that you, Robert, and all readers do likewise. And if you should happen to be from West Virginia, or know people who are, or know Manchin or someone close to him, all the more reason to drop everything and get calling. OK, rant over, for at least the next 15 minutes.

Agreed, I wrote my 2 Senators about getting the voting rights bills passed if it means limiting (or more righteously, eliminating) the filibuster. They were strong letters. I asked for specific responses. Senators Mark Warner and Tim Kaine (VA).

Thank you for the reassurance about all the media doom and gloom about Dem's chances in 2022 and for making it easy for us to call the President. Your readers will be burning up the White House phone lines!

Thanks, Kate's. I admire Biden's steadiness. But he must also act with urgency. Otherwise, Trump will try to mount another insurrection.

Thank you for correcting the media-sown misinformation about the congressional retirements, their sensationalism has been glaring for a long time now, not just on the Internet. It takes a fair amount of work to find alternate sources to trust. Thanks for writing your daily letters.

Robert - do you have thoughts about C-Span and their reporting? Lots of information there, much of it is direct video...thx

You are on target with the Senate. Three of the five Open Republican seats (FL, OH, and PA) are serious targets. Even MO would be a target if Greitens in the Rep. nominee. The members leaving the House are a little troubling though. Five the the Democrats are leaving competitive seats (2020 wins between 2 and 8%). Only three of the Republicans are leaving competitive seats (2018 wins between 4 and 8%). That adds a little bit to the challenge of winning the redistricted House in a year when the Democrats have the White House.

I wrote to the White House and addressed it to the President. Thank you for the nudge. I absolutely loved today's Today's Edition! I loved all the meaty little details in numbers and charts. I am an optimist and I feel we are mostly on the right track overall.
