Thank you for giving Judd Legum a well-deserved shout out. Popular Information exposes so much corruption and really digs deep into the stories they publish. My husband and I start our day well informed with Hubble, Heather, and Judd.
Thank you for suggesting Legune. My support for the President has not wavered one iota, and I appreciate your discriminating between service personnel in Afghanistan and the bureaucrats who planned the occupation.
Although I have criticized how Biden handled the final withdrawal, that is a little like finding fault (which there was) with Lord Gort's retreat to Dunkirk in May 1940. And just as the defeat of France and Britain was pretty well assured by decisions made long before the war broke out, the failure of our effort--what was it we were trying to do?--in Afghanistan was made inevitable by decisions made in the GWB years; by the time Obama came in, success was not an option. (Not to absolve Barack of errors that prolonged the agony.) All that being said, I have fair confidence that the American people have a pretty good handle on things in Afghanistan, at least as long as the Taliban do not keep Americans from leaving and don't start slaughtering our allies.
On Ballot Question #2---am I missing something here? Kevin Paffrath is running #2 in polling---a Democrat, vowing to replace Dianne with a Democrat if she leaves office, and with other not-terrible thoughts. Why would we not vote for him? He polls above Cox and Falconer. Where is the error in my thinking?
Just want to pile on and further celeb rate the work Legum and his team are doing. He provides very actionable intelligence in many cases--he has identified, for example, corporations who have found backdoors to go through to circumvent their vow to not give to those who supported January 6. The question is whether the rest of us are prepared to use that intelligence to exact a price on those entities.
Regarding the recall election - I left Question 2 blank. My conscience did not allow a vote for anyone on that list. Not one. Our goal should be to encourage Dems to vote and vote NO. Waste of time and energy dealing with Question 2. No good outcome except Newsom stays.
Hi, John. The most recent polls show Paffrath (as in this weekend) show Paffrath as a credible challenger. That was not the case just a few days ago. So I think voting for Paffrath is a reasonable choice to knock out Elder -- especially if the Democratic Party would tell Dems to VOTE on question 2. But if Democrats don't vote on Question 2, then Republicans will elect the next governor and the strategy is to help pick the least worst Republican. It is a very difficult choice, but I am encouraged to see Paffrath gaining in the polls.
Thanks for the reference to Judd Legum & his blog. With gratitude to you and to Richardson - every day, I am sincerely, Ellie

It is a difficult situation. If Gavin Newsom loses, larry elder will be governor unless Democrats vote against him.
And what about Kevin Paffrath, who promises to replace Di Fi with a Dem?

Thanks---I've just sent a group mailing to the 160 people who I can nudge on various issues.....suggesting holding our nose to vote for Paffrath.
