I listened to Biden's speech with great sadness. You've written about West Virginia and its loss of population. All I could think of last night was Joe Manchin; that unless he changes his mind, he will not provide the Democratic vote necessary to execute Biden's plans.

It's tragic that the Senator of a failing state, one that has just one or two Representatives should wield so much power. Although I was listening more than watching, I understand that Manchin looked disinterested as Biden spoke.

Don't give up hope. It is not that Manchin wields great power. it is that we did not win two additional seats. We can do that.

I believe we need to keep reviewing the unmoored falsehoods the Republicans spew. It lets us keep our eyes focused on the enemies among us. I believe the Republican Party is targeting the citizens that don’t dig deep for understanding. They have reached out and captured a base of common American people who aren’t interested in discerning their own facts. If we don’t watch what they are feeding their base...we won’t understand. I hear these conspiracies being recited when I am out in public (grocery store, the bank, a Doctors office) and realize these are our neighbors.

I agree with you, Betty. But i don't think the falsehoods should occupy us to distraction from the more important work of renewing America. Nice to meet you virtually!
