How I wish all who comment on the $3.2 trillion Biden package who note every, single time would note that it is designed to be implemented over ten years. TEN. That puts it in perspective. Of course we can't expect Fox news to do so, but if other media would point that out again and again, opposition to it might lessen. On speaking of Fox news, once again I note that for 30 years I have predicted that Rupert Murdoch's purpose with Fox was to take down American democracy. So far, he seems right on point. As for "Justice" Thomas, it was a travesty that he was ever confirmed. Unfortunately, Biden had a hand in it by downplaying Anita Hill's testimony. Much as testimony about Kavanaugh was downplayed. Don't get me started on how men are allowed to get away with egregious behavior all the way up to the Supreme Court.
Wonderful news about the fire being slowed, and preventive measures taken. Our prayers continue. The protective wrap is something we’ve never heard of before this fire season. Phenomenal. God bless the firefighters and first responders overall.
Robert, thank you again for your wise perspective. To lighten things up, here is a video of 80 year old Joan Baez in the Sierra, lip-synching "Phantom of the Opera" and dancing with a bubble sword. She is a great fighter and a model for all of us, and this is a wonderful reminder of her awesome hidden talents. Enjoy! https://vimeo.com/583542948?fbclid=IwAR2_u6GJAH4lwRAja6UcupveWSfGyWGtZw0LvTuCLkHzdw8orqB4Xotvyic
To the French who are whining about being out competed I say: "Quel dommage..." If your submarine contractors were doing their jobs, they would have have sniffed out the competition from America and offered a better deal. Joe Biden and team won. "Si triste"
I become more proud of President Biden every day. And I concur on Garland. I wonder (with no info) if there are any discussions between the atty general of NY and Garland. I wonder if there are overlapping concerns. Could we see both of them finally moving towards charges in some coordinated manner? Just wondering.
I am glad to hear hopeful news about your cabin. I learned long ago to take Thomas with a dose of disbelief. He is one of the most ideologically driven justices we have ever had. I had a long conversation about the attitudinal health of the US last night, and grim though things look, I think you are not only justified, but commendable to counsel optimism in the face of unthinkable GOP Trump-driven behavior. The danger of anarchy is there, but so is the self-interest of the oppressed. Equalizing the tax burden will go a long way towards a national corrective.
Supreme Court Charm Offensive? Justices Thomas and Coney Barrett decrying those who say the Supreme Court has become politicized. These statements, made at Notre Dame and Kentucky University's Mitch McConnell Center, were more like the proverbial red flag being waved at a bull. Those bulls may charge where you want them to charge, but they are never charmed.
First, a technical correction. You wrote that "Nuclear submarines are much harder to detect than conventional submarines because they do not need to surface to refuel and are quieter than diesel submarines." Only partly true. When conventional submarines run on batteries (i.e. when they are more than a few feet underwater and so cannot use a snorkel to get air) they are actually quieter than nuclear subs, which operate on turbines run by steam created by heat from the reactor. The difference is sigificant in battle, although, in the larger picture nuclear subs are, overall, harder to track.
As for Justice Thomas, fortunately I was not eating or drinking anything when I first heard of his remarks.
Just as big money has supported the Federalist Society and given us anti-abortion justices, so has big money helped tip the balance against the extremely wealthy paying their fair share of taxes. They've done this by contributing heavily to the campaigns of Senators and Congressmen. I'm cynical enough to believe that nothing will change.

We wish all residents of the U.S. safe living with climate change, and are delighted to learn your cabin will be saved.
Jamie boule has a worthwhile OpEd in today’s NYT about the GOP ideology regarding “ stolen elections”!
Thanks, i will check it out!

Glad to hear you landed in the same place I have on the issue of the future of our nation. Optimism is important, as is realism.

Ha! Good point, but the "charm offensive" was qualified by "Supreme Court." Bashing liberals is what counts for "charm" on the Supreme Court.
