I bookmarked a January letter from Heather Cox Richardson that outlines the many good things that the Biden administration has accomplished. I need to commit it to memory as I find my self tongue-tied when accosted by people who think that Joe Biden has done nothing or that all politicians are evil. And Happy Happy Birthday! I love birthdays - mine and everyone else's. https://heathercoxrichardson.substack.com/p/january-25-2023?utm_source=substack&utm_medium=email

My 74th birthday was yesterday, the 25th, now that it's after midnight here. Hope your birthday today, the 26th, is as wonderful as mine has been. One highlight among many, was hearing Representative Clyburn on The Last Word talk about President Biden's campaign. Rep. Clyburn wants President Biden to do three things - tell what every proposal does for you, for your family and for your community.

I only have a minute.

Sixty seconds in it.

Forced upon me, I did not choose it,

But I know that I must use it.

Give account if I abuse it.

Suffer, if I lose it.

Only a tiny little minute,

But eternity is in it.

Happy 67th birthday, Robert Hubbell! May God bless you and grant you all the unselfish desires you named in your piece. Oh, and also good health, a happy home, and a great, big piece of cake if you like or should eat sweets. Good to be on this journey with you.

Your 64th birthday wishlist is indeed a keeper, Robert. Brilliant!

In 2019-20 I worked long and hard for Bernie and then volunteered many hours phonebanking and writing letters to get out the vote for Biden. Such efforts are needed again to "Get to 55," as Simon Rosenberg calls the urgent and achievable goal:

Registering and mobilizing younger voters is top priority to overcome gerrymandering and voter suppression. Powerful and effective organizations include NexGen America and Democracy Summer:

When I’m 64 was today for me. As I woke up to happy birthday wishes from family and friends, I kept thinking about that song, and the people that still need me, that still feed me. For me, when I’m 64, it’s becoming that country where everyone has the opportunity to pursue their passions, and the many things that would make it so so eloquently laid out when you were 64! Happy birthday tomorrow! Thanks for your newsletter!

Bill Clinton and Barack Obama were pretty exciting presidents, but they were also relatively disappointing presidents, at least for Democrats. Of course, they were both better than having a Republican as president. As so-called "New Democrats", they both embraced, especially Clinton, the Republican corporate neoliberal economic paradigm that redistributes income upward at the expense of the middle class. As a result, the Democrats were wiped out legislatively, particularly in mid-term elections, as well as in state legislatures during their presidencies. Their respective neoliberal successors also lost their elections to two of the worst presidents ever, Republicans Dubya Bush and Trump, who then took the neoliberal policies to an extreme. Joe Biden on the other hand has been the transformational president that Obama wanted to be. Boring, effective, and democratic (and Democratic) is where we want to be. His Build Back Better bill was FDR-like and failed because of two corporate Democrats in the Senate. EFF the media, which is only interested in entertainment value.

Oh, and happy birthday Robert!!!

This doesn’t really relate to today’s newsletter, but I just saw this question in social media and I thought is was a great question and I wanted to share it here.

Now that the door has hit Tucker in the ass before he hit the curb, one has to wonder what happened to the 40,000 hours of Jan 6 surveillance video he was gifted by barely speaker Kevin McCarthy?

Happy Birthday Robert,

I remember 67. It was a great year. Tonight I will raise a glass to you (and your brilliant wife). Your letters are improving every week - which means you are aging really well! Today is no exception - it is outstanding, actually.

I am all in for Biden-Harris 2024. I will continue to voice my concerns about the youth vote. Maybe with more strong efforts on the Climate Crisis - whether they end up in court or not - the President can define himself as the one who tried to turn it around. After all, at the end of every day, the only thing that really matters is whether or not we have an Earth that will support life as we know it.

Thanks so much for all your research and efforts at communicating the key stories of the day. You are really good at this. Many of us will read you, LFAA, Joyce Vance, Reich and a couple of others and find little need to turn on a TV or plow through the firehouse of news on the net.

Aside from shuddering at the very thought of a national default on our outstanding debts, and aside from being actively scared that the GOP will make it happen, I am curious whether a party can bring the nation into default and still win anything. I'm standing by and waiting to see what develops with fear in my heart.....

Republicans and some Democrats worry about President Biden's age..now 80. D⁶ Trump is 76.. Ronald Reagan was 78 when he left office.. Reagan was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s Disease (AD) at around 84 years of age, but there has been controversy when early signs of AD really began.. Do you think Republicans are sensitive about that issue?
