Unlike most of the "Trump-appointed judges," the judge Bragg is dealing with has a solid legal reputation from all who know her, and while she turned down the immediate TRO (as most judges would), she directed that Jordan be served tonight and reply by Monday for a hearing next Wednesday. Don't sell her short for the appointing power; it appears a "good one" snuck through.

My goodness, Robert, when you come back from the dead, you bounce back in full force! Bravo! This was an excellent piece. I see Bragg as the catalyst to lighting a fire under Democrats asses. You are right, he called out Jordan’s stunt with fire and that has had to be done for years. That loudmouth is just plain stupid while licking Trump’s you-know-whats. Maybe Trump will realize that if Bragg is successful with his lawsuit against Jordan, he might be next. In fact, he is! While Tennessee and Kentucky weighs heavily on my mind, the reveal of the lawsuit was rather enjoyable.

A comment from yesterday as things take time. Justin Jones statement 'in the comfort of silence' comes from a deep place. This kind of wisdom and clarity in a young person comes from somewhere. How he is raised, who he is with, and so on. To gloss over this is to not learn the lesson. When a young person has the strength to act in this way it is up to the observer to listen and also do. Property through expulsion is colonialism. To minorities, to women, to young black persons; so it is our homework to discover how to make the world more the way to support them, not to protect our own property at their expense.

Welcome back and so well written. With Trump and Pence speaking at the NRA convention this weekend we has a simple Democratic message...the GOP supports shooting children with automatic weapons”, say it again and again and again...

Imperial China had a psychology of “ death by a thousand cuts “ the way a major change happens slowly in many unnoticed increments and not perceived as objectionable. This is what is happening all over the country like recently in Wisconsin; Tennessee, Washington and New York to name a few. MAGA and the racists are not going to be wiped out with a Big Bang but with all of our help and support, die a death of a thousand cuts. It’s happening every day in little ways and we need to continue the fight.

Excellent perspective, Stephen, IMO. As a boy, I was obsessed with Civil War history. It drove home the lesson, at an early age, that many ferocious battles remain to be fought after the tide of the war has turned. Those on the Right are still today creating turmoil and worries on a dozen fronts. We don't know for certain that their authoritarian white power approach will be in ruins by 2025, but I for one strongly sense it in my bones. They are fighting the last stand, and we must remain determined but confidently hopeful. Let's keep channeling our inner Grant and Lincoln!

Tyler, I sure pray you’re right in your prophecy. Being a girl originally born and raised in the South, I would wholeheartedly welcome this change.

That is so appropriate---not a Big Bang but a death of a thousand cuts. Important to remember and inspire all actions, small and large.....

Bravo as always. I am a fan of the podcast Sisters in Law, featuring Jill WIne Banks, Barb McQuade, Joyce Vance, and Kimberly Atkins Stohr. https://www.politicon.com/podcast-title/sisters-in-law/

Last Saturday they shared how they keep up with the news - each with a different system. Jill Wine-Banks' system includes following YOU ("Hubbell") and Heather!

Glad you’re feeling better!

We don’t have to play any games or thought experiments regarding identifying our plethora of shootings, they ARE terrorist attacks and ones predominantly committed by white men.

Great piece! So good you reported on the WA state Senate’s passage of the assault weapons ban. I’m a member of Grandmothers Against Gun Violence founded in 2012 after Sandy Hook. We have been trying to get assault weapons banned in our state for over ten years. The efforts included electing enough Democrats so we became the majority in the legislature in 2017. We’ve also passed red flag laws, bans of high capacity magazines and in this session a ten day waiting period to buy a gun. To paraphrase Edmund Burke, “the triumph of evil is when good grandmothers do nothing.” Along with the hope our state legislature has given me, the courage of Justin Jones and Justin Pearson and all the young protesters in TN and all the March for Our Lives Parkland kids with Maxwell Frost now in Congress and countless others, have inspired me that this passionate young generation may truly save our country from the tyranny of the minority.

So many good counter-points today… Makes me wonder how many doctors got stressed trying to deal with people who took ivermectin. Where were the lawsuits then?

Robert,

Clearly, your illness has done nothing to dull your perceptiveness or insights. This was one fine letter!

The enemy has been engaged! Bragg is leading a charge. Very encouraging.

Thank you...again.

By the read of it, it certainly "sounds" like you are fully recovered, Robert. Hope the same is true for your Managing Editor.

As for the Manhattan indictment controversy, all I can say is: A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush!

Just to add to the news is the story about the Colorado River and the Biden Administration's plan to modify the 2007 water-sharing agreement among several western states, tribal lands, and Mexico.

I haven’t read all the details about the Colorado River plan yet, but I think it’s about time to do something. Every time I drove from my home in Colorado to my sister in LA, I would always be astonished at the many housing developments I would pass in the desert with green lawns. WTH people! You’re in a desert! Grow cacti or rocks, don’t waste water on a lawn! They need it to grow your wine and almond milk!

Re: Dominion Voting Systems and E. Jean Carroll will commence trials against Fox News and Donald Trump for defamation this week. They may win, they may not. But Fox News and Trump will think twice the next time they utter false and defamatory statements. FOX maybe. Trump has no governor on his motor mouth or those of his two sons. So we are doomed to continue living through the deluge of Trump falsities for the rest of our lives. Trump is America's cross to bear.

“Trump has no governor on his motor mouth”. Thank for the chuckle. But realistically, we only have to live through this for the rest of His life.

Once again, now for the 147th time since the beginning of this year, we have witnessed the struggle of values between the lives of people and the life of the Second Amendment, a poorly worded and poorly punctuated sentence crafted during the infancy of this country as Europe devolved into the chaos of the French Revolutionary wars. Surely on the minds of all 14 existing states at that time was not only the possibility of attacks from other countries but, given their knowledge of English and European history, the possibility of encroachment on individual states by other states. The 2nd Amendment was obviously written to allow for state militias to defend their own states and the country as a whole. The framers certainly couldn't have intended for it to mean what it has come to mean: The right for anyone and everyone to carry a weapon and expose the public to their use in homes, schools, churches, banks, grocery stores, athletic events, concerts, on buses, airplanes, ships, etc., etc., etc. 147 time in 100 days.

We know our real values when they are in conflict with other values. All the talk in the world means nothing. It is when we choose one value over another that our true souls are bared. In the current state of our country, we have stated unequivocally by our choice that what we value most in the competing values of guns and lives is guns. The distorted interpretation of the distorted 2nd Amendment takes precedence over the lives of people. This shameful fact will stand until we change that hierarchy and decide that lives are more important than some poorly written, ambiguous, out of date amendment.

As things pile up, so to speak, and people like Bragg say "no more" and take action, the turning point may be approaching. The new developments in the Faux News and Dominion case are heartening--the system is working! Thanks for the good reporting and analysis Robert!
