Yes, we were a bit bereft not to receive your words early this morning, but we survived, guessing what had happened. At least we had Jill’s garden post to tide us over. Thanks to both of you for your worthy efforts.
Thanks, Janet. I appreciate the feedback. Suffered a "failure to launch" on my first official day on substack. Here's hoping that tomorrow goes better!
Today it was announced that there are enough signatures to force a recall election against California Governor Gavin Newsom. This could affect Biden's ability to enact his platform as follows. California Senator Dianne Feinstein is 87 years old. If Newsom loses and is replaced by a Republican governor, that governor will have the power to appoint a replacement for Feinstein should she leave office during that governor's term. I'm having flashbacks to Justice Ginsberg's decision not to resign early during the Obama administration.
Although I subscribed to your newsletter some months ago, I never received it. I was delighted to receive today's email and thank you for switching to a more reliable platform. I look forward to catching up on your newsletters.
Welcome, Marcia! so glad you found your way to substack. One of the reasons i switched was to allow people to view the newsletter online if the email version was diverted to your junk mail folder. you can always read the newsletter online at https://roberthubbell.substack.com/
Particularly interesting/positive review of Biden's actions which are intended to and do affect the lives of us ordinary citizens. I read the American Enterprise Institute and other conservative sources as well as this one and HCR and other liberal sites. The difference IMO is whether the emphasis is on people/community or $$$. In the GODs - Good Old Days - the members of Congress on both sides not only did the nation's business together but socialized as well. They understood divisiveness, but they understood compromise as well. Read Robert Caro's biography of Lyndon Johnson for descriptions of how Congress functioned to the benefit of all.
Both views of Biden should be known to all of us - nobody's perfect. L&B&L
Hi, Ida. Thanks for your thoughtful note. I agree with you--Biden has not been perfect, but he has been what we need in this moment. What is strange about this moment is that Republicans in Congress seem interested only in obstruction, nothing else. Even their "infrastructure bill" (which isn't a bill, but just a price tag with a definition of infrastructure) seem only intended to allow them to vote no on Biden's bill. I hope I am wrong, and Biden has taken their proposal seriously as a starting point for negotiations. The point of my newsletter today was to say that we should focus on the positive efforts of Biden, rather than focusing on the partisan divide. Thanks again for sharing your thoughts!

Thanks, Mary! I have been released from Spammer Jail for good behavior and am on probation. Lesson learned.
Your perspectives are always enlightening

A friend posted a meme saying: Rather than calling it Socialism, let’s just call it what it is: valuing human life over corporate profits.
