All: After the Times initially failed to mention anything about the story below, it has now revised its headline and opening paragraph about Trump's Saturday speech in PA as follows, apparently after the reporter (Michael Gold) began telling NYT subscribers that his editor took out references to the information below:
"Former President Donald J. Trump on Saturday spewed crude and vulgar remarks at a rally in Pennsylvania that included an off-color remark about a famous golfer’s penis size and a coarse insult about Vice President Kamala Harris.
The performance, 17 days before the election in a critical battleground state, added to the impression of the Republican nominee as increasingly unfiltered and undisciplined. It comes as some of Mr. Trump’s allies and aides worry that Mr. Trump’s temperament and crass style are alienating undecided voters."
They still sanewashed it, Robert, by not pointing out that his brain is rotting, day by day. And Kamala has to say it out loud. Over and over, so NYT and the rest of the media stop tiptoeing around the facts.
Unfortunately that is the status of being second in line for the presidency. One day, back when Obama was president, I was walking my third grade class around a block in our neighborhood and we were making a map with a key for types of buildings as a format for having them map their own block. It was a useful block because it was across the street from our school and was residential on 3 sides and had small businesses on one side. As we walked by a cafe, a man who was telling the man next to him that American children don't know anything, asked one of my third graders, who the president was. They told him Barack Obama. So, then he asked them who is the Vice President, and none of them knew.
Now, first of all they would know Obama because prior to moving to Washington his children attended the school in which I was teaching, and some of their parents were personal friends of his. However, he turned to his friend as if to show how children don't know civics anymore, and said see, they don't know anything.
I was annoyed by this, and I asked him in front of my students if he could tell us who had been vice president when he was in third grade. No he could not. It made him feel less self satisfied. People generally do not know much about the vice president other than the name, if that, unfortunately! But, even in this short election campaign, which is longer than the length of a typical German election campaign, which is about 2 months, there have been plenty of opportunities to get to know Kamala Harris.
Also, and more importantly, they have no excuse not to know who Donald Trump is, so that alone should decide them for Harris. I agree with you, these undecideds are lying to someone, or they are suffering from an anxiety disorder known as unable to make a decision unless the house is on fire.
Linda, I love everything about this story. Especially your perfect comeback to that cranky old man!
When I hear about undecideds, I hope they are women who are lying to their MAGA husbands but will vote as they please in the privacy of the voting booth 🙏
To Linda and Still Learning: It scares me to think that some MAGA-related undecided women - if there are such - will be afraid to vote their consciences in the voting booth for fear that somehow, in the MAGA world, ‘somehow’ their husbands/boyfriends will find out how they voted. This is called paranoia.
Where I vote, my husband could easily see what I marked on my ballot. You get your ballot, go mark your ballot at a series of high tables with side barriers, then walk to the machine in which to feed the ballot. Unless I was able to vote on a different day, I couldn’t keep an abusive/MAGA husband from seeing it if he wanted. (My husband is not MAGA so this is a hypothetical, and we voted on September 20th in Virginia 🥳)
The condition they exhibit Linda, is called "decisional procrastination." It is a well studied aspect of our human condition. The condition has many different facets to it. I am very, very familiar with the many ways decisional procrastination can complicate ones life, terribly at times, as well as the lives of others. Give it a Google maybe. I always enjoy reading your posts. Your students were lucky to find you in their lives!
"I was annoyed by this, and I asked him in front of my students if he could tell us who had been vice president when he was in third grade. No he could not." YAY, YOU!!
“I agree with you, these undecideds are lying to someone, or they are suffering from an anxiety disorder known as unable to make a decision unless the house is on fire.”
Brilliant eleven word name for that disorder!
Linda, when I see your name heading a comment I always know I am in for a choice moment of reading. I appreciate your insightful commentary every time. Thank you for all that you add to my Substack reading!
The “undecided voters” may not “know” VP Harris, but they do know Trump!
I was in my yard this week doing storm clean-up when an “undecided voter” cycling past stopped and pointed to our 4 (lonely in my neighborhood)Harris/Walz signs.I said “Yes,we are 100% for Harris/Walz.There is no question.Harris is for democracy.Trump is for autocracy, and he’s getting crazier by the day”. The cyclist agreed but said a vote for either one “would anger half the country”.🤦🏻♀️ When I explained our draconian abortion law (so many have no idea !)and the GOP’s fascist attack on the rights of women,he trulylistened and told me about his granddaughter…”the apple of his eye”.
15 days to go ! Be loud and proud about Team Harris/Walz !!
The undecided voter walks into his local diner. The waitress tells him there are only 2 things on the menu. “Excrement on toast topped with broken glass, or a chicken sandwich..” The undecided voter pauses for a moment and then asks, how is the chicken prepared?”
Update:We were out cycling today( I was wearing my Harris/Walz 👕) and had stopped for a water break when along came “undecided voter”. I noticed he didn’t have any water/bottle holder. I said …”Don’t forget to hydrate”. His response…..”and VOTE”.
Why would anyone need to know more about Vice President Harris other than Trump was a lousy President; he hasn't improved--in fact, he is deteriorating alarmingly fast and is completely UNFIT. If anyone is claiming not to know enough about Kamala Harris to vote for her--that person has not only been living in a cave but is, in addition, being willfully ignorant.
We don’t have an organized feminist movement in this country because we’ve been told that everything’s been taken care of. The misogyny otherwise known as hatred of women has not been taken care of.
Not to mention the women who carry their self-hatred and its poison with them wherever they go… and have it reflected back to them by other misogynists they meet (and sometimes marry). Devastating to me to see it in women I know or thought I once knew.
I've written here before about my 40-something female colleague, who pityingly told me, when I mentioned the misogyny rampant in our workplace, "Oh, we don't really have sexism anymore...that's in the past." She literally does not see what goes on around us as sexism or misogyny. But it is. She was taught that sexism is "something that happened in the last century but does not happen now."
Just my humble guess - but I don't think there are enough "undecided" voters to make a difference. Most people have decided. Not that we shouldn't try to reach them, of course.
The ones that are really important are those who are "undecided" whether to vote. The ones who think "all politicians ****". And the lazy ones. The disillusioned ones.
I truly believe this is about turnout. There are more of us than the haters. It comes down to who shows up. Who cares the most vs who hates the most. And I still think the Dobbs decision has led to such horrific treatment of women that it perversely is our ace, our weapon, our motivating issue that will get "Jill to slap her husband around until he gets off the couch to vote".... for Harris and Walz. (Can't believe I just used the words of the Orange Menace.)
I am hoping that more of the fake "undecided" voters are women planning to vote for Kamala Harris but are afraid of being ostracized by their community (or church) and fewer that are Trump supporters worried about being labeled racist.
Yesterday morning, I was a poll greeter at an early voting site handing out "Blue" ballots. I wasn't being aggressive, just calling out "thank you for voting, would you like a blue ballot?" as they approached. I got a lot of polite no thank yous, but quite a few were interested in taking one. Some people said "I'm set" to which I replied "Great, please be sure and vote your entire ticket including Judges, state legislature races and the ballot initiatives". This caused some people to come over and get a blue ballot. Some of the women patted their purse or their coat pocket and said "I've got it covered" or leaned in and said "I'm voting your way". I only had one rude woman snarl at me "Absolutely NOT!"
I told people who took the blue ballot that they were welcome to pass it on to a friend or family member, but if they were planning to toss it to please bring it back so it could be reused. We also had some bumper stickers and Harris Walz signs that I offered to people who stopped back afterwards. (I didn't want someone accusing me of bribery).
It was sad that many people said no because they were afraid of vandalism. One lady told me she didn't want to alienate her Trumper neighbor who watched her house when she was out of town.
LOL, Bill, maybe the more words the Orange spews, the more Harris voters he'll create! And I agree--there's only a handful of true undecideds, and really maybe only 30 million die-hard Trumpers who can't be swayed by his craziness. The Republicans at Washington's Crossing, the Cheney Republicans, the 800 Wall-Streeters who signed on for Harris, Trump's hundreds of ex-staffers who signed on for Harris, the Nikki Haley Republicans--they can all be swayed. Trump got only 74 million votes in 2020. If half of those are in the groups noted above and can be swayed...
The problem is where they are getting their news from. I believe Robert said he doesn't agree with all substackers but that's ok. They are reading those and not Robert or reading all the MSM that are not telling it like it is. I've tried reading or watching theirs to see what the problem is. I can't stomach it for long plus I hate that then that's what comes up in my news feed.
I was block walking yesterday and ran across an undecided voter who was actually the father of the 20 year old on my list. He said his son wasn't available so we chatted a little with him, found out he wasn't sure who he was voting for and asked what issues concerned him. He said both sides are so extreme and that everyone talks about democracy being on the ballot. He said it was very undemocratic that he hadn't been allowed to vote for Harris in the primary and because of that he was thinking of voting for trump. What a bunch of BS! He was just trying to justify what an idiot he is. I hope he hasn't brainwashed his son.
Perhaps The Lincoln Project will produce these ads. Or someone was telling me of another anti-Trump Republican group that is not Sarah Longwell's Republican Voters Against Trump.
Place comments on social media...."Not suckers or losers" to vets groups, military, military dependents, history sites. Vote vets has thousands of testimonials of 2020 Trump voters that flipped. According to Facebook, there are 4 million veterans or active duty members on Facebook, and 12.5 million family members of veterans or active duty members on Facebook.
Here is an ad that is targeted at those who do not appreciate brains. I just learned about this from a new member of the Democrats Abroad group in my city in Germany. This is an ad from the aptly named PAC, Psycho PAC. https://youtu.be/o16GZJSoIkI?si=XO8e-5-TfxuVn7XZ
I like it. But it’s not the same as Kamala and Tim saying that Trump lacks the mental fitness to have his (short, stubby) finger on the nuclear button.
There is not a week that goes by without my husband and me discussing how glad we are that we cancelled our subscription to the NYT's over their treatment of President Biden this spring/summer. The irony is that we started our subscription when Trump called them "the enemy of the people" a number of years ago. I miss Spelling Bee and the recipes, but I will not give them another penny while they continue on this path.
I was finally successful in canceling my NYT subscription yesterday as well. After it takes effect, i will explore re-instating the cooking info; that appears to have retained a politically neutral stance although I could simply inattentive.
Further, the upper image is a good likeness of my 5 month old poodle when I pick her up with all four legs going in different directions😆
Using the term ‘undecided’ is a shield for these voters. They simply do not want to be ‘known’ at this point in the game. Hopefully they will listen to their inner soul.
It was more than just crass; it was evidence that Trump is becoming increasingly disinhibited, which is a symptom of dementia. We must not let this disturbed man come anywhere near the nuclear codes.
I don’t want to believe this, but could it be that the Times is afraid of IQ45 being re-elected as the reason for the pandering and mix-reporting, or is it purely click-bait driven greed?
Let us hope that his temperament and crass style are alienating undecided voters. Speaking with my spouse today I asked, “Isn’t possible that with rallies of xxx number of attendees, let’s say 100, at least one of every hundred is leaving those rallies saying ‘this guy is nuts, I can’t vote for him?’” Just one (1) out of 100 walks away looking for a better option??
I just cannot comprehend what is playing out in this insane rallies. But, I will not be complacent or make any assumptions in these crazy times. George Orwell must be pleased that his 1946 is being played out in 2024! WT.!
My first thought on your photo was that it’s almost more interesting than the correct one. Then I thought how often in our current times that incomplete information is often more attractive to some people than the whole story.
Robert, Jill Wine-Banks today stated on her #Sisters-in-Law podcasts that yours is one of the newsletters that she reads daily and trusts to have accurate information. Quite a feather in your journalistic cap!
We are talking about a man who referred approvingly to a fictional cannibal, a man who stood on stage for 39 minutes listening to music during what was supposed to have been a speech, a man who avoided the draft and called veterans suckers and losers. So what's different today?
I'm not sure, but oh my goodness it sure feels different. The man who wants to be president got up on stage and talked about THE SIZE OF A DEAD GOLFER'S PENIS.
Think about the mental gymnastics required here for any Trump voter, much less anyone working on his campaign. You can say that the MSM and libs didn't understand what Trump meant by the reference to Hannibal Lecter, that we didn't get the metaphor or symbolism or whatever. You can say that he never said that vets are losers and suckers. I'm not sure what you can say or think about those 39 minutes but I'm sure there's some justification floating around out there.
But this? How do you wake up this morning and say "yes, I am going to vote for this man." Or, "yes, I am jumping out of bed before the alarm this morning because I am so excited to be working for the election of this man to be the president of my country"?
It seems to me that the only thing one can say is that Trump didn't actually say it. So you show them the tape. You know what's coming: "It's AI," or it's a subtly and masterfully edited job designed to discredit Trump. And since you've already used that one at least a couple of times before you've also got to think that there is a concerted effort of mad geniuses out there whose sole role in life is to discredit Trump. Well, ok, maybe that last one is believable because, damn, there actually ought to be such a cabal. But I digress. The point is that you're now in essentially full-time, 24/7 denial mode and for the next 17 days that's what you're gonna spend your time doing.
The man got up on a public stage to present his case for why people should vote for him to be president of the United States and he spoke about THE SIZE OF A DEAD GOLFER'S PENIS. The only story now is that upwards of 40% of our friends, neighbors and countrymen and women are still going to vote for this man. That means that this country is seriously broken, perhaps irretrievably. If enough people in the right (by which I mean wrong) states actually vote to elect this man, it will mean that the United States of America has ceased to exist in any recognizable form. That's it. That's the "choice."
Bottom line - 45 is a malignant narcissist, misogynist, (add other derogatory adjectives here) who is UNFIT for any sort of elected office and refuses to learn or admit his mistakes.
When people say "it's just locker room talk,"
my reply from now on is "I prefer the pep talks from Coach Walz."
Good evening/morning Robert. I knew nothing of Substack until Heather told those of us on her FB post/letter that she would be putting her letters on Substack. The link to subscribe was there and I clicked on it. A whole new world opened up.
It’s time for Democrats (and sane people) to go back 60 years. When Republicans said of Barry Goldwater, “In your heart you know he’s right,” Democrats replied, “In your guts you know he’s nuts.” True today, too, and it can’t be said too often or too loudly.
I have nothing to offer in terms of interpreting the photo, and I share Kay's view. But the concept of pareidolia is intriguing indeed! We all tend to fill in the blanks and judge things based on incomplete information.
I had a rather frustrating exchange with someone yesterday on Facebook as I challenged her parroting of misinformation. I was respectful but direct. I don't think I changed her mind, but I think I helped her take her temperature down. As I thought about it this morning, I realized that none of us has a right to judge others' views or force our opinions upon them. Our influence should be respectful, and we should seek to understand each other. Filling in the blanks with real information is part of the process. The picture may look a whole lot different with clarity. Robert fills in a lot of blanks with clear information.
"As humans, we're endowed with the incomparable ability to think for ourselves. It's incomprehensible that so many of us choose not to do so."
p.s. An even more apropos term for what I've described is "apophenia." See how much I've grown?
Love what you said, Bob. I think, when Pres. Harris is safely in office, each one of us across the country should adopt on MAGA person, have coffee with them once a week, and ask them, "What are you feeling? Why do you feel that way? What happened to upset you and make you so angry? What would make you happy? How can we help you?" We should just keep talking with them until we have plumbed the depths of their hurt, hate, and fury, and start to bring them back up to the level of functioning human being.
I’ll second that! Your pictures are a reminder that there is so much out there for us to learn about. And to appreciate what we have here on earth, which we need to take better care of.
Robert, I agree with your idea that Substack is a forum for democracy, and Heather Cox Richardson was the first person I subscribed to at the recommendation of a friend. Next a friend recommended Joyce Vance. Then you were recommended. Next Jay Kuo, and there are others, but I follow your path. Friends of mine were trying to tell me that since Substack is not shutting out the Nazi voices it is somehow as bad as Twitter-X. I do not subscribe to such Substacks, and so, for me it has been a wonderful forum for information and community and I consider it a direction that information sharing can go, that is not the typical corporate media. Thank you for your work.
The difference between Substack and Twitter is that Twitter forces "recommendations" on you, while Substack does not. And the toxicity of the comments on Twitter is too much. The paywall feature on Substack comments is very successful in blocking trolls.
Robert, I totally agree with you. I choose who I am being exposed to through Substack. I also find that only is there an occasional Troll, James for example that I encounter.
My birthday gift to you is to continue to volunteer in North Carolina.
With gratitude for your upbringing and the experiences that have motivated you and given you purpose, so that at this crucial moment in history, you are prepared, qualified, and now leading with love, joy and vision.
From Cary, thank you! Since you’re a Hubbell fan, I know you’re working hard and believing we can overcome with Harris-Walz, and especially Stein, Hunt, Jackson, especially Mo Green for Supt of Public Instruction (a must!! Against Crazy Woman Jan 6 I was in DC) and down the rest of the ballot - all Democrats!!
Robert -- I'm totally FOR your calling the media out. My eyes do NOT glaze over. Today, David Bender wrote about the criminal's 'MEANDERING" He gave extensive examples. These were not meandering. They were evidence of dementia. I tried to respond to the article, but now the TIMES seems to have limited those responses. So ----- I attack my email to him (sorry)
The TIMES continues to be derelict in their duty to inform. To call his responses ‘meandering’ does not inform the public that all this ‘meandering’ is evidence of mental deterioration and decline. That’s what it is. In neurological terms, we would say ‘word salad’, tangential thinking and increasingly less inhibited about what he says. The pre frontal cortex is the executive part of the brain. It has to do with conscience, consequences and judgement to name a few. As people get more demented - this function is affected, and any family will tell you that their demented relative begins to exhibit disinhibited behavior that they would NEVER have done before. Masturbating in public, swearing, saying outrageous things, getting paranoid. So when he starts talking about the size of Arnold Palmer’s penis (for God’s sake) that is not trump being trump, it is dementia. If you and your colleagues were truly thorough, you would discuss what you report with a behavioral neurologist and inform yourselves, and then the public about the real, dangerous consequences of this man getting anywhere near the seat of power.
I’m a psychiatrist of 50 years - not some ‘over-reactive’ Harris supporter.
Thx, Derek. Frankly, I keep wondering why more psychiatrists and geriatricians have failed to speak up and help inform the public regarding tell tale signs of dementia, including more severe forms such as frontotemporal dementia (FTD). I know their reluctance to diagnose without seeing him as a patient but how about some basic information? Quite honestly, Am Psychiatric Assoc (APA)has failed us just as the NYT has failed us.
Bonnie - Thanks for your note. I know that the APA has taken a position - which I do not go along with. With the criminal - one does not need to exam him in person - we have so much video of him - making the diagnosis is easy. But who knows - maybe on the social media people are being more informed. I've seen a few videos by neuropsychologists elaborating on his decline.
Robert, I want to thank you for your daily work on your Substack posts. Your messages, read in your voice, provide a stability that I have come to rely on in each “crazy” day of political stories. You, Heather, and Joyce have become my trusted “religious ritual”-
I looked at both your photo and the one you linked us to. I think yours looks like the Firebird from the ballet, and the more "expert" one resembles a malevolent blue snowman.
As for DJT, I'm more concerned about what he intends to do AFTER he loses the election. I spent a lot of time today doing what I swore I wouldn't do--doomscrolling, looking at videos, etc. I am more confident than ever that Harris will win, but one of the pieces I read suggests that Trump will use the skewed polls ("I can't have lost when I was four points ahead!! Democrats STOLE THE ELECTION AGAIN!!!") to start down that same tired, useless road of the Big Lie 2.0. Unfortunately, this time he's got the Billionaire Tech Bros lined up to support him, corrupt election officials to add to the chaos, and the despicable Supreme Court to deliver the final blow.
I would like to think that the legal safeguards in place will stop this BS, except we're dealing with a person and a party that is completely lawless. They are saying, in effect, "I'll do whatever I want, legal or not, and you can't do a thing about it. Go fuck yourselves, snowflakes. Me Tarzan, me take over now, Jane get to kitchen."
I think my concern/question really is this: How do you restore order when one side WILL NOT follow the law? They're going to get the civil war they so desperately want; except I don't think they're going to like the outcome.
I sincerely hope I'm wrong, but when one of the two major candidates spends ten minutes fantasizing about the size of Arnold Palmer's junk and calls Kamala "shitty" we're facing a goon with no morals, no integrity, no empathy, and no conscience. I'd welcome any thoughts you have about how this can reach a conclusion that doesn't' involve violence and misery. Is it time for me to buy a gun? Take care.
Right, Dean! Pres. Biden will be president after the election, and the Supreme Court has given him immunity for anything he does. VP Harris will be President of the Senate after the election, in charge of "announcing the electoral vote count." That's all she does, but her announcement of the tally in effect states officially who power will be transferred to. The Democrats have the power this time.
A television ad is now airing in Michigan for US Senate candidate Elissa Slotkin (Democrat) featuring the then candidate for the presidency Gerald R Ford (Republican). This is an interesting (and I think somewhat brilliant) move on the part of her campaign. Gerald Ford was from Grand Rapids, Michigan, and was wildly popular in the state. In the speech featured in the ad he sounds eerily like many of today’s speeches given by Democrats. It starkly shows that the beloved Republicans of the past would now be more aligned with the Democrats Party, and tacitly gives permission for Michigan Republicans to vote the Democratic ticket this year.
Here in KY I keep getting buoyed by helping to engage new volunteers in the world of door knocking. Yesterday a mom and her 24 year old daughter joined me in knocking doors in my precinct. It was the daughter's first time and she eagerly listened to the convos at the doors and willingly was the "lead" on subsequent doors. We were talking to newly registered democrats and also to democrats who have not voted very often...all of them were grateful for information about early voting/locations, information about Kamala Harris's policies and truthful info about 2 bad constitutional amendments on KY's ballots ( tax dollars for private schools and non-citizens can't vote. Even our Republican SOS says the non-citizen amendment is not necessary since non-citizens already cannot vote). After we finished our turf, the daughter was energized and wanting to volunteer to do more! We talked about how important it is to GOTV and how important it is to engage young people in the process. We just finished a project where we personally contacted over 100 people who attended one of our volunteer meetings and getting them involved in all kinds of activities. We are contacting 100's of voters who have no transportation and need a ride to the polls...our team of volunteer drivers are the BEST! As our volunteer leader tells us #DoSomethingMore
Robert thanks for all the great political commentaries you provide us with to keep us focused and motivated to soldier on and defeat Trumpism. However my comment today is not of a political nature but of an astrological one. Thank you for opening up such a beautiful diversion for most of us, so that we can put our earthly concerns into a deeper perspective. With all the millions even billions of stars out there, it’s hard to believe that we’re alone and when will the truth finally come out that we’ve been visited. And why are authorities withholding that information from us. What are their fearful motivations about? BTW, ALL your photos are breathtaking even the “mistakes’.
Thanks for bringing me back to the reason I signed on to comments! A beautiful astrological post script! A marathon runner with their dog coming from the sidelines to greet them! Your substack and HCR’s are my only substacks. Thank you both for sharing your talents - both grounded and star-studded!
So you’ve heard it’s minority voters—and especially BLACK MALE voters—we desperately need to bring out on Election day, right?
Well, FOCUS for DEMOCRACY has unveiled a stunning new program that will get low-turnout (but registered) voters to 8,500 low-propensity, minority Swing State VOTING SITES—transforming Election Day from dreary waiting to swingy, jazzy, hip-hoppy events.
Learn about DJs at the POLLS! They will TURN ON THE MUSIC & TURN OUT THE VOTES!
More than 4,000 popular, professional DJs will publicize their own ELECTION DAY gigs, get out their constituent fans…and perform. A huge nationwide celebration of voting and democracy.
Like everything Focus for Democracy recommends, this program has been scientifically-tested and will create new, extra Democratic votes.
We really can win this thing! On Election Day. And bring music and joy at the same time—Kamala-style.

Linda, I love everything about this story. Especially your perfect comeback to that cranky old man!
When I hear about undecideds, I hope they are women who are lying to their MAGA husbands but will vote as they please in the privacy of the voting booth 🙏
WE are finding hand-written sticky notes all over town which state simply, "No one else knows how you vote in the privacy of the voting booth."
I'm guilty of being one of those sticky note-droppers. :-)
I hope so too, as well as all the young women whose MAGA boyfriends they want to please.
To Linda and Still Learning: It scares me to think that some MAGA-related undecided women - if there are such - will be afraid to vote their consciences in the voting booth for fear that somehow, in the MAGA world, ‘somehow’ their husbands/boyfriends will find out how they voted.
I had no idea. We still go into a curtained booth alone in my precinct.

❤️🤍💙
The undecided voter walks into his local diner. The waitress tells him there are only 2 things on the menu. “Excrement on toast topped with broken glass, or a chicken sandwich..” The undecided voter pauses for a moment and then asks, how is the chicken prepared?”
Oh, Mary, I love this! excrement on toast indeed. Yet the undecided voter still cannot decide. Well, maybe...
Update:We were out cycling today( I was wearing my Harris/Walz 👕) and had stopped for a water break when along came “undecided voter”. I noticed he didn’t have any water/bottle holder. I said …”Don’t forget to hydrate”. His response…..”and VOTE”.
💙
Devastating to me to see it in women I know or thought I once knew.
it runs deep
I've written here before about my 40-something female colleague, who pityingly told me, when I mentioned the misogyny rampant in our workplace, "Oh, we don't really have sexism anymore...that's in the past." She literally does not see what goes on around us as sexism or misogyny. But it is. She was taught that sexism is "something that happened in the last century but does not happen now."
...that person has not only been living in a cave
⬆️
Not a cave, just a right wing echo chamber like Fox News, OANN, etc.
well if that's not a cave--a right wing Fox News echo chamber--I don't know what is!
Yeah...willfully ignorant.
What I’m afraid of is that women get attention from men by being against women. Race and gender constantly used by Trump are affecting this election
Legalities aside, Harris's ads should consist solely of a picture of Arnold Palmer.
In golfing attire, correct?
I was thinking fewer clothes and more strategically placed golf clubs. I coulda said golf balls but I'm not going there. Nope, I'm really not.
Apparently Harris responded though. Jeff Tiedrich brings it up on his Substack.
Scroll about halfway down. https://substack.com/home/post/p-150408819
Perhaps The Lincoln Project will produce these ads. Or someone was telling me of another anti-Trump Republican group that is not Sarah Longwell's Republican Voters Against Trump.
Trump is headed to the Steeler game tonight. It would be great if the crowd shouts "WON"T GO BACK!" https://www.instagram.com/kamalaforpa/p/DBK2jL4RU-a/?img_index=1

I have a friend whose retired military husband has a t-shirt with the slogan: "All gave some/Some gave all/One had bone spurs.
Can't tell you how much I love that! What a great t-shirt. You made my day.
Best t-shirt ever!
Harris needs to do it. She’s shown she’s willing to go toe to toe with him.
George Conway has also been trolling Trump with new billboards. The one at Mar-a-Lago will be up through Nov.

Thanks for sharing, Linda. Trump is certifiably bonkers and doesn't ever need to hold public(or any) office again.
I like it. But it’s not the same as Kamala and Tim saying that Trump lacks the mental fitness to have his (short, stubby) finger on the nuclear button.
I just checked their YouTube channel and didn'd see one on that.
But they just posted a brutal ad about Project 2025 and a total abortion ban:
But is she dying https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iem4n73FTLQ
Here are some ads I just learned about from Psycho PAC.

No problem with picturing a celebrity, although I think taking about Trump’s brain, or lack of one, would be better.
I think the audience is not the one who appreciates brains. They are certainly not using theirs.

I don’t know who these undecided voters are but to be undecided at this late stage in the game, one must be living under a rock imho.
Using the term ‘undecided’ is a shield for these voters. They simply do not want to be ‘known’ at this point in the game. Hopefully they will listen to their inner soul.
Or perhaps they like the attention or believe being undecided makes them special/smarter than those who “do politics.”
Depends who owns their inner souls.
That "like" was "thank you for posting the info," not "I approve this message."
"his editor took out references to the information below" WHAT?!!! God bless Michael Gold for putting his career at risk and speaking the truth!
Yes; she said she follows Robert Hubbell and Heather Cox Richardson every day.
And of course Joyce Vance!
Exactly my three must-reads every morning!
Me as well!
Doesn't everybody?
Thanks Kathe! I was hoping Robert received notice about this!
She has great taste!
Trump is a psychopath. That's a serious condition. He must not be allowed to become president.
Good evening/morning Robert. I knew nothing of Substack until Heather told those of us on her FB post/letter that she would be putting her letters on Substack. The link to subscribe was there and I clicked on it. A whole new world opened up.
Amen to that!
With the takeover and (imo) demise of Twitter, we have all been seeking ways to connect and hold onto TRUTH.
Same here!
It’s time for Democrats (and sane people) to go back 60 years. When Republicans said of Barry Goldwater, “In your heart you know he’s right,” Democrats replied, “In your guts you know he’s nuts.” True today, too, and it can’t be said too often or too loudly.
Sixty years ago I was 11. Even then I recognized Barry Goldwater was nuts and scary.
These days ol' Barry Goldwater would be considered by the MAGAs as being too much of a left-winger to join their club.
he was still very, very crazy.
Me too!
This is the best comment I’ve ever seen! May we repeat it often!!
Repeat and rinse as comments on Fox and similar web sites.
I enjoy ALL the astronomy photos -- t cannot tell the difference between the successes and the failures, they all look beautiful to me.
I second that!
Happy Birthday Kamala Harris!
The fact the NC GOP Supermajority chose to back Mark Robinson imo means ALL of them should be tied to him -
and if life was fair, they would ALL go down with the sinking ship. A true disgrace for the great state of North Carolina.
A big “Amen” from Durham. Tie ‘em together and toss ‘em over a steep cliff.
“Oh, wouldn’t it be loverly!” Someone sang this.
I still cannot believe that Mark Robinson wants to bring back slavery and "own a few."
Derek Polonsky MD
You’re right about no need to examine with so much video. Harris’ suggestion to watch videos also was smart!
Robert, I want to thank you for your daily work on your Substack posts. Your messages, read in your voice, provide a stability that I have come to rely on in each “crazy” day of political stories. You, Heather, and Joyce have become my trusted “religious ritual”-
have reasons to hope but not be complacent…
"I joined Substack because Heather Cox Richardson was on Substack. Her presence legitimized the platform for me."
What a coincidence! And thanks to cross-refrences to and by other authors, I follow most of the others you mention to get the REAL Truth.
Social media will never be the same after Substack's introduction.
Take care.
I hear you, but the one positive is that Trump doesn't hold the levers of power this time. It will be ugly after, though.
I didn't think of that. It's so hard to keep my head up under the lies and vicious attacks. Thanks for the reminder.
I hear you...
He's worse than despicable!
Now we have Vance to oppose, because you know they are just waiting to take the keys away from DonOld.
Karla,Yes on Firebird !🩰
“Ivan must battle Kastchei and his mythical monsters. He calls upon the enchanted Firebird, the only one who has the power to defeat this dark magic…”

love "goon with no morals." That's Trump, all right. The goon.
Goon is perfect, isn't it? He literally makes my skin crawl.
Except that his pardon of Nixon got us to where we are now.
yeah, that was bad. Ford should never have pardoned Nixon. Betty Ford knew better and castigated Ford for doing that.
