I just watched Jon Ossoff speak at a Georgia rally. He's an excellent speaker focused on progressive values but has support from Independents and Republicans. I see him as a dark horse for President in 2028!

Robert what are your thoughts on yesterday’s Trump rally in New York with Blanche, Patel & Hegseth. This is against the law.

What's going on in Greenland? A few days ago I read a piece about one of Trump's buddies from Texas who owns an oil company (named Greenland Energy?) having shipped several containers of oil drilling paraphernalia to Greenland. Greenland leadership insists that there has been no permit issued to the company to drill for oil. Yet, the containers have been off-loaded. I haven't read anything more in the last couple of days. If this is, indeed, the leading edge of an invasion of Greenland by the U.S., I would expect to learn more.

I read your letter everyday and it keeps me sane. This morning I read in Heather Cox Richardson that Trump has disabled the Fincen rule regarding shell companies. How more corrupt can this administration get? How can these illegal things keep happening and he gets away with it? No other President would ever get away with all the S—- he’s done. I just don’t understand why? Joe Biden Barack Obama would have been run out of town or strung up for 1/2 what Trump has done. It’s making me physically ill. Now Todd Blanche will keep him safe over oversight from the democratic house coming up. I’m so sorry but I’m livid and feel absolutely helpless. I thought we’d impeach him and get rid of him once and for all.

As Raji said above we are all being held hostage. But we can't jump ship. Any expression of activism now will be helpful for our mental health and improve the odds that the November election will bring us a new and better reality. Keep the faith. You are not alone.

I have been participating in Dr. Joanne Freeman’s Friday morning sessions on YouTube. She is a Yale history professor with her emphasis on the Revolutionary War era. This session is an excellent combination of history and civic education, combined with current issues. As we all embrace our civic responsibilities and a newfound commitment to them, this is a supportive addition. She also does an occasional evening meetup and a chat with Heather most Saturdays before Roberts’ live stream. https://ncheteach.org/history-matters/

I love the yellow ribbon idea! A good way to show support for our troops.

These photos give me so much hope. There are good people out there showing up for human rights, justice and democracy. We can never go back!

A few days ago I read that a buddy of Trump's from Texas who has an energy company by the name of Greenland Energy shipped a large number of containers to Greenland that contain oil drilling paraphernalia. Leaders in Greenland insist that they have not permitted drilling. At the risk of sounding unduly conspiratorial, could this be the leading edge of an invasion of Greenland by the US?

The demos I usually go to have been getting smaller, but I will be there, and I assume many will return. The Latino people--working people-- who pass us thank us for supporting them. When I think of the state of fear they must be living in, I'm glad we can give them even a moment of encouragement.

I enjoy Daily Dose photos of the stars. Protest photos from around the country give me hope.

The Guardian is the only news source I trust. I have not considered myself to be pro military, but when it comes to poor treatment of soldiers and sailors, I find myself speaking out for them. The US military has had the facade of being the strongest in the world. But that reputation has been destroyed. This regime has destroyed civilian infrastructure and services and now we know that our military forces and defenses have also been destroyed. Russia, China, and Iran know it now. The US is not maintaining their military assets (ships, armaments). The first hint was the break down of toilets, showers, laundry in the USS Gerald R. Ford in the spring. "An army travels on its stomach" is attributed to Napoleon and still true today. When you have sailors losing 20-30 lbs, the stress and damage to the body and mind is not easily or quickly repaired. The need to keep a force well feed was known even in Ancient times. (The Persian King, Xerxes, planted supply depots when he planned his invasion of the Peloponnese in 480BC.) History is full of failed military operations because of inadequate food supply lines. But we have a regime that is purposefully illiterate, ignorant , cruel, and only concerned about how they look and their personal monetary gain, who see soldiers and sailors, immigrants and Americans as things and not human beings.

A Navy sails on its stomach. I'm part of one of those families, but, only for the past year and by marriage of my daughter. They are both buffed out gym rats. I hope he is still very strong when and if he returns to Coronado. I'm more hopeful than in months, but, am very aware Agent Orange has sent more of those he characterized as suckers and loser into the Epstein "excursion" for "not nearly long enough." May they quickly return undamaged along with my son-in-law.

In Wisconsin we’re starting to see young voters upset about Hong’s narrow loss to Crowley for the Democratic nomination for governor. Some are grumbling just as they did about Kamala Harris in 2024. They were upset about Gaza, they didn’t vote or just marked down ballot and Trump won Wisconsin. I liked Hong’s message and I voted for her. What tipped the scales in her favor for me was the enthusiasm she generated among young voters. I knew if she didn’t win they would feel disenfranchised and just not vote. She lost by fewer than 4,000 votes. Sure enough the young voters can’t see beyond the primary to ensure a win for Crowley in the general election. I fear it will give us Tom Tiffany, a Trumplican, in the governor’s office. Yes, the state Democratic Party put their fingers on the scales to ensure a Crowley win. Governor Evers supported Crowley after he reentered the race after dropping out in July. I’m disappointed Hong didn’t win the nomination but I’ll be far more disappointed if Tom Tiffany wins. I’m losing patience with young voters who refuse to vote if their chosen candidate doesn’t win. They sound as entitled as Trump does.

Let's hope you are wrong and your impressions are just anecdotal. In any case, it looks like pre-election polls heavily overestimated youth voters turnout which partly explains Hong's loss despite leading clearly in the polls. So many young voters even didn't bother to show up for their preferred candidate. Not a promising sign.

The mainstream media never disappoints… stories about Democratic disarray now replacing stories about USS Abraham Lincoln navy mistreatment.

Had right wing extremist voter suppression of more than four million votes (according to the neutral, Greg Palas) not been successful, Kamala Harris would have won and all this bullshit about the failure of Democratic Party "messaging" would instead be about the failure of right wing extremism and the Republiklans would be wringing their hands about the failures of neoliberalism - which are just about infinite. I say this as a registered Decline to State party preference - Lyndon Johnson tried to kill me and did kill my wife's fiance so I can't jump in that pool.

And, as always, thank you very much Robert - your optimism and dedication to reality are breaths of fresh air - sorry about the poor metaphors.
