Daily Dose of Perspective
The image above is the Trifid Nebula, a stellar nursery roughly 5,000 light-years from Earth. The nebula’s signature colors come from three distinct processes happening in the same cloud: the red glow is hydrogen gas ionized by the ultraviolet radiation of young, massive stars, causing it to emit its own light; the blue-teal haze is a reflection nebula, starlight simply scattering off fine dust grains the way our own sky scatters sunlight into blue; and the dark lanes threading through the red region are dense, cold dust so thick that no light escapes it at all — the “trifid,” or three-part, dust lanes that give the nebula its name.

Victory! And Onward!
Yesterday, July 17, Citizens Bank issued a statement that it plans to “exit the credit facilities” for CoreCivic and GEO. Despite all they say in their statement about “business decisions,” we know the truth. This policy shift would not have happened without the determined and organized pressure of this amazing Coalition. Activism matters. We let them, and other corporations, know that people will not stand idly by when their business harms our communities.

New London, NH. This is our small every Friday demo on Main Street from 2:00-4:00. Sometimes we are five people sometimes twelve. Few of us knew each other until this little vigil began back in October. We were here all through the winter standing on the snow. We have become a close little resistance community.

If we got the largest ever crowd, on a threatening rainy day, does that mean there’s more to protest than ever before, or we’re getting our message out successfully, or both? It was the group’s consensus to stage a photo in front of the conveniently located “Urgent Care” facility’s signage, as we all agree on the urgent need for the healing of our country’s condition!

Our group meets every Saturday morning from 10 - 11 in East Longmeadow, Ma., a small dot of red in a sea of Massachusetts Blue
We started this in May of 2025 and we line both sides of the street - anywhere from a dozen to almost 50 people.
These days, it’s a lot more honks and waves than middle fingers.

Some residents of Kendal at Hanover, NH, a CCRC (Continuing Care Retirement Community) have been protesting for more than a year every Saturday morning for an hour at 10:30 am. The youngest of this group is in her 70s; the oldest is 91. We come on foot, on walkers, wheelchairs, and occasionally accompanied by our children and grandchildren. We’re seeing more waves and thumbs up, and hearing more beeps than when we started. Extended third fingers have diminished.

The pictures are always heartening and impressive. So many groups. So many citizens. So much joy in protest of so much evil.
The pictures of stars far, far away remind us of our inconsequence to the galaxy at large.
Thank-you Robert
Thank you for your message on Saturday regarding the constant drumbeat of misinformation, incomplete information and fear mongering coming from the mainstream press in particular. As one who grew up listening to Walter Cronkite and trusting in a free press, it is difficult to grasp the demise of so many institutions.
This is indeed psychological warfare. It is meant to overwhelm even the most reasonable, logical and consistent resistor. It is exhausting and it is important to assert that this is not reality.
The reminder that you gave is needed and must be repeated continually. It is too easy to fall victim to the lies created deliberately and punctuated by a daily stream of violence and threats. I have named it, “The Daily Sh-t Show.”
