My favorite photo in this group is the ‘team algae’! It took me a minute to get it. On the news yesterday, besides all the wonderful sites across the country of people celebrating the 250th anniversary of this country, there were a half a dozen states that held naturalization ceremonies for new citizens. I’ve been an ESL tutor, and I was very excited when my students became citizens. I wasn’t sure that they were still being able to hold these ceremonies A few successes on this Fourth of July
We read that some Democrats are dropping out of races. In some cases that may seem surprising; however, I believe that is part of the shaking out process, the reason we have primaries. There are reasons beyond despising the putrid Dear Leader we have and we need to hear what new blood is proposing beyond Dump Trump.
Not sure I will ever get the picture of the lone black girl on metro surrounded by masked white men out of my head. It told so much about what the orange maggot is trying to make of our country
I felt such sadness for her. She has done nothing wrong, and yet these goons are vilifying her just because she is of a different color skin. It is not the color of our skin which defines us; it is the challenges we face and the life we lead.
All these photos full of Boomers. I don't want to hear one more comment about the evil of Boomers. So many, like me, marched in the Moratorium in 1969. Yes, many Boomers abandoned their basic principles. Many never had them in the first place. But many of us did not trade our heart for Capitalism. And even though we were born into a time when jobs were plentiful after college and houses were affordable, we can never forget the scars of the Vietnam war - the horror of the draft and seeing our beautiful boys coming home in great numbers in body bags or horribly mutilated in body and mind - and for what?? And when we marched against it, we were called communists. Sound familiar? So we all have our trauma and our crosses to bear. That's why it's so good to see us all joining together to create a world without all the unnecessary horror.
As we were returning to our home in east Texas from a vacation/work trip in Portland, Oregon yesterday, my wife and I saw something that truly made our day and richly deserves to be shared. We weren't really looking forward to the higher heat, humidity, and mosquitoes, but we were ready to be home. After our trip from DFW to Tyler Pounds Airport, we noted that the young man who had been sitting across the aisle from us on the plane immediately broke into a mad dash to get to his girlfriend who was waiting for him. They hugged each other for an extended period of time and then engaged in a passionate kiss without any regard whatsoever to the rest of us. As they finally broke apart, we both realized that the young man on the plane had been hugging and kissing his boyfriend! The fact that two men could openly express their love for each other in a public space in EAST TEXAS is not something that could have happened here until recently. That's progress that's worth noting and fighting for! Happy Birthday America!

I want to ask to all of the readers to speak out for transgender people between now and November (and beyond). You don't have to march in a pride parade, but please don't give into the hatred either. If you hear people make a negative comment, just tell them you disagree. Tell them to go research and look at the science. The real science; not false propaganda and fake reports created by big money like the Cass Review. Tell them you're not OK with politicians taking away anyone's civil rights in any capacity in the United States and don't give them anywhere to go.
Transgender people are of the 'flavor of the day' for the GOP to hate on. It's infuriating that innocent people who are just trying to live their lives are used as pawns in a political environment. First, they go after transgender girls in sports. That's the gateway to other rights. Next, it will be bathrooms. They're trying to push trans people out of public life. It's not hyperbole. In 2026, 63 anti-trans bills have passed so far. In 2026, 804 bills are under consideration across the country that would negatively impact transgender people's lives. Please don't let this be a NIMBY moment. The GOP uses red states, and particularly states like Texas to test all of their rhetoric and see if their base and if independents react. They started with sports because they knew that people on the right who are uneducated about the subject might fall in line and many did. Nobody was thinking about transgender people and sports before the new regime took over. Unless it affected you directly because of a family member or a friend, this was already sorted out in the NCAA and the Olympics and across sports orgs around the world. Think about it. It never affected you.
Here's the catch. They start with this and then they start taking away civil rights from transgender people completely and then they move onto the next group. Don't let them do this. Gay people have had to deal with this for decades. People of color have had to deal with this for decades. Immigrants have had to deal with this for decades. We're all on this together. If you are from a place of privilege, please use the privilege to help. I think you probably already are because if you're a reader of this group, you're probably speaking out already, but if you're not, please do.
I have a great trans nephew who just gave birth to a baby boy, my great-great nephew! I also have a great nephew who is gay and married to his husband. The times, they are a'changin...we have to make strides in those changes..

AMEN! I marched in the Moratorium too, in DC., 1969.

It’s so inspiring to see what’s happening all around the country!
Be patriotic, bring out the tar and feathers.

Can you publish protest pictures along with ICE pictures and sell them overseas. I don't think
the world gets the full impact of the Trump years and what we are doing to end it.
