I'm glad you mentioned the tightening polls in Wisconsin. It's also happening in Pennsylvania, with both Barnes and Fetterman getting barraged with "soft on crime" negative ads that have turned around their earlier leads. Barnes may say polls go up and down, but he just went down 6 points against an idiot. Down 6 now is hard to close and what I head on MSNBC was him "whistling past the graveyard."
And Fettrman is only 6 points ahead of another idiot he was 12 points ahead of. They don't need to defend their positions, but it would be good to see ads going after the hypocrisy of Johnson and Oz.
Democrats always think they should do ads early and "lock in" the vote, while Republicans go late and do things like is happening to these two now. They need to be on the air with ads going after Johnson and Oz for their lies, for their support of killing Roe, for their support of Trump. Like my old boss used to say "Run like you're ten points down till 5 minutes after the polls close."
Don’t be part of the Chicken Little Caucus, or the Nothing Can Be Done Club. There’s plenty of time for truth to take hold in Wisconsin and Pennsylvania, as well as North Carolina and Florida. We need to work to make that happen.
You can go ahead and think as you wish, but you should take into consideration that the Cook Report just moved Pennsylvania Senate race from "leans Democrat" back to "toss up" today. That's not "the polls go up, the polls go down." Those people know what they are looking at.
Did you see me be part of either? I said: get to work! I said: "Run like you're 10 points down till 5 minutes after the polls close," advice from the smartest politician I ever knew, Willie Brown, and the strategy that worked in six elections.
And Mandela Barnes is still whistling past the graveyard if he wants to think 6 minus points 34 days out is "just up and down."
I don't disagree with your last line at all. But if polls were a good guide to the future, Lula would be celebrating today and Hillary would be President.
On the other hand if polls serve to stir us to action, good. But they are essentially tweaked wild guesses based on faulty sampling. JMO.
Bill, Hillary *should* have been president. And who knows what shenanigans went on in various states… like the hanging chads in 2000. Republicans don’t accept defeat even when they’ve clearly lost; maybe Democrats should take a lesson from their rulebook.
And, just possibly, my friend . . . Democrats have become stoic and iron-willed, tired of the blatant BS and sick of the mistreatment of the disenfranchised . . . and they will have their final say as they march, tight-lipped, to the polls in November.
I hope you're right. My experience in politics was that if you plan for the worst and it doesn't happen, you then have reason to celebrate when its OVER.
In regards to Herschel Walker and Dr. Oz, I hope their candidacies can be seen as another lesson that celebrities do not usually become good politicians. Dr. Oz may have gotten a large following on TV (and was also a quack btw) but that doesn’t mean your are cut out to be a Senator. Nothing will ever take away Herschel Walker’s accomplishments on the football field, and was an icon at the University of Georgia. Though we are clearly seeing through his senate candidacy that he is a deeply flawed man that has no business being in elected office. I just hope the voters in Georgia and Pennsylvania see it the same way.

I am duly impressed with Fetterman and Barnes. We could be much prouder of the U.S. Senate if they joined it. Another wonderful Senate candidate is Rep. Val Demings in Florida. I fear that race is being written off too early. Val is a capable politician with a law enforcement background. She distinguished herself during Trump's first impeachment and is running against an unpopular Trump sycophant, Marco Rubio, who literally stands for nothing EXCEPT denying women's rights and bowing to big money. We're working to get Val elected and we're definitely still hopeful!
Oh my goodness! I had just reposted Tom Nichols article on LinkedIn and Twitter with a lead in of ¨The center can hold—because we are the center. We are citizens of a democracy who can refuse to accept the threats of mob bosses, whether in Florida or in Russia. We can and must vote, but that’s not enough. We must also speak out¨. Also on HCR's LFAA. Too many do nothing. I collect rebuttals to the lies of the right and post them on their twitters.Just did one on the NYP regarding McCarthy's BS about what they plan. He now calls inflation Joefaltion saying they will end it. If anyone wants any of these rebuttals email me and I will send them to you. Use on FB, Twitter, LinkedIn (where there are far too many believers of the lies.)
It's amazing that this hasn't been a drum beat for Democrats for years. Prices are higher because we are being bled by a capitalist system with no guard rails - structured purely for the benefit of corporate elites, stock holders and traders.
I speak as a retired businessman in favor of a truly free, competitive enterprise system that serves all Americans. Americans have been conned forever by the "supply side" and "trickle down" bullshit propaganda from the Oligarchs. We have been trained to worship billionaire entrepreneurs who feed off their workers.
In my dream world, Warren would be President, Reich would be Treasury Secretary and Sanders simultaneously Secretary of Commerce and Labor. The Federal Reserve would be led by a person who can think past the Volker mantra and actually act with the people in mind instead of yanking interest rates around as if they had any real impact on inflation. Powell is a clueless robot.
Inflation is being driven by excessive profits. Time for a claw back. A big one.
Ron Johnson is one of those repulsive politicians whose tactic and views are no credit to the senate. Sending him out to pasture would be useful for good governance. It would be really great if the Lincoln Project could broadcast a lot of old Ron Johnson quotes to the good people of Wisconsin.
So ironic for us to be relying on the Lincoln Project in any way, but hey.
Speaking of, I think it was they that have been running an ad with clips of Dr. Oz peddling his varieties of snake oil. Anyone who can vote for him is a total moron
Thank you Robert, needed that pep talk, win or lose lets fight back in anyway we can. My focus is to just get every registered Dem to vote we will defeat the MAGAS.
As a “Roe Roe Roe your vote” Cheesehead Woman in Chippewa County, Northern WI, I hope my friends seeing the racist, mean GOP ads against Mandela Barnes will make them as determined as I am that moRon Johnson goes away & we will vote in Senator Mandela Barnes.
To coin a phrase, There’s only one poll that counts. There are five weeks, and Democrats have a good opportunity—I won’t say chance—to hold both houses and even to increase the Senate majority so that we can ditch the filibuster and expand the court. (For those opposed to expanding the court, for decades (about five of them) I agreed with you. But given where the court and the nation are now, it is the best of the realistically-available alternatives to pull the nation back from the brink.). We just need to work, and trust that democracy will prevail, again.
Living in northern Wisconsin l know almost nothing about Mandela Barnes. Ron Johnson is a toady but you would think he is Paul Revere from the ads. What gives me hope is that in 2020 yard signs were 20 to 1 trump vs Biden. Now about 2 to 1 Michels vs Evers. Deep red Sawyer County was a little less red in 2020. Betting it will be lighter again on November 9.
Great that you're writing postcards for Fetterman for the SENATE!. I wrote 20 Vote Forward P-Political letters for up and down the Ballot for Wisconsin. If all the letters are enveloped, stamped, and sealed I'd like to write postcards for Fetterman, too, he MUST win.
Activate America - interesting. My household are committed Vote Forward letter writers. I'll have a look at Activate America, too. What does give Hope besides Robert B. Hubbell, are the myriads and myriads of Democratic grassroots volunteers working for this November and beyond.
Today’s Edition was like eating a five course meal in a five star restaurant. Each section was better than the previous section with lots of tidbits to savor. I have been following Tom Nichols for a while and he provides a more academic, fact base view of the world with little or no embellishments or saber rattling. His comments were right on the money and he has asked the question I have asked myself many times and that is “ how can we not be overwhelmed “ so share his comments with as many people as you can. Write your own postcards to all of your friends and ask them to share.

Once again, thank you Robert for leaving me hopeful. Yesterday I took the time to listen to your podcast and shared it with family, who I've also shared your writing with. Today I will sit down and start my Vote Forward letters.
Enjoy the wedding festivities on tap for your family!
Robert, did you ever imagine when you began writing letters to your daughters 5 years ago that you would be moderating a discussion between two US Senate candidates in two key states? Or that so many other important moments for you ( and the country) would be the by-product? So well deserved. Judy
Problem in Arizona. In a safe blue state senate seat, the dem candidate ( whose name remains on the ballot) took another job. The seat was so safe, the GOP didn’t put up a candidate. Now, with the candidate out, they have put up a candidate. The Dems have a new candidate, Dr. Eva Diaz. The problem is that the people of Arizona have to WRITE IN her name on the ballot to keep the seat blue.
Hi, Alison. I am looking for someone to give me a write up on the situation in Arizona. Do you know someone who can do so? I don't know the facts and will need to rely on someone close to the situation. For example, what happens if the name that remains on the ballot wins? What happens to the seat? Does it remain vacant? What if Eva Diaz receives the most write in votes, but not more than Gallegos (?).

I like to use them for the latter. Never think things are OK in politics.

Robert Reich's latest piece relative to inflation is spot on.

Powell is for the wealthy. Knowingly so in my opinion.
I agree totally with your governing choices.
I'd join that party in a heartbeat.

Good summary of good news. Good advice to keep up the support to good candidates and get out the vote.
Thank you Robert, needed that pep talk, win or lose lets fight back in anyway we can. My focus is to just get every registered Dem to vote we will defeat the MAGAS.
"Polls go up; polls go down." So does my blood pressure. Got postcards to write today. 🦋
Writing those postcards helps, doesn't it?
Whoooo howdy! Big time!
Yup, me too. Postcards to send to Katie Porter's district. Got to get them done in the next couple of days. :-)
Likewise, Beth B. Letters to write today -- all day.✍🏻✍🏻✍🏻
all I can say, dear Robert, is THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU, A THOUSAND TIMES, THANK YOU!!!!
Seconded, Bronwyn Fryer!!!!🦋

Fingers crossed for Wisconsin.
Today addressing letter envelopes for Wisconsin.
My postcard writing group wrote for Wisconsin at our last get together. Next Wednesday is our final Meating; this time, we are writing for Fetterman.
ITS ALL ABOUT THE SENATE!
I get my name/addresses from Activate America
https://www.activateamerica.vote/
The Fetterman campaign my group is writing for specifically targets pro-choice Democrats who tend to skip midterm elections.
They have lots of other campaigns to write for

With Vote Forward (GOTV letters) I wrote for PA-07 and PA-08, if there's time I'd write for PA-17.
Most of my Political letters [differentiated from S- Social, for under-represented communities] are for Pennsylvania.
Activate America — would be great to write for, too, for Pennsylvania.

Never! It seems surreal. There is a lesson for all of us in my experience: people are looking to follow someone who holds out hope. Let that be you!

Aaah….phew…. you are talking about the State Senate
I’d like to think that Democrats are smart enough to know what they need to do!
