Protest. Regroup. Repeat.
January 12, 2026
Although we are awaiting reliable estimates, the Ice Out for Good protests were a solid start to the mass action movement that will end the Trump administration’s lawless rampage. To achieve that result, we must mobilize a significant portion of the American populace on a consistent, ever-increasing basis. The key to mass action movements is that they operate as gravity wells, attracting additional participants until their pull becomes irresistible.1
There has been much discussion of a “3% rule”—the percentage of the population that must protest regularly to topple a regime in other countries. Under the 3% rule, we would need 10 million Americans to protest on a regular basis to stop Trump.
Our goal should be much more ambitious—“the 30% Rule”—or 100 million Americans taking to the streets, boycotting the economy, and economically targeting businesses that serve as underwriters to Trump’s assault on the Constitution. (Looking at you, Big Oil and Tech Bros.)
If we could achieve 30% of the American populace taking to the streets in protests, Trump’s illegal behavior would stop in an instant—not because he cares, but because his enablers would be more afraid of us than of him.
Regardless of the numbers of Americans in the streets over the weekend, the Ice Out for Good protests were a tremendous success because they were a start. No one who participated in the protests is going to quit. The energy, passion, and anger were palpable. We have had enough, even the Trump administration is doubling down on its thuggish tactics in response to the murder of an innocent woman. See Mediate, Kristi Noem vows ‘hundreds more’ ICE agents heading to Minnesota: It’s ‘ground zero’ for ‘protecting criminals’.
The Trump administration’s choice to ratchet up the thuggish behavior of ICE agents will serve only to increase the number of Americans protesting in the streets. Trump has managed to turn a winning campaign issue into a debilitating political weakness that will stick to every one of his Republican sycophants. The assault on America by Trump’s secret police force (ICE) is brutish conduct wrapped in white supremacy and doused with a liberal helping of insecure-white-male-with-a-badge-and-a-gun syndrome.
Everyone who participated in protests over the last five days is a patriot and faithful servant of the Constitution. Your reward is that you must do it again, and again, and again. . . until we reclaim democracy as our own. In standing in the streets and raising your voices, you are serving as an inspiration to others, showing them that millions of Americans haven’t given up.
Whether you know it or not, you are recruiting others to the cause every time you engage in public protest. That is the power of mass protests.
This will stop when enough of us say, “No!”
As we head into another week of the chaos that is the Trump administration, it appears that he is preparing the US military to launch an attack on Iran intended to decapitate its leadership. See The Guardian, Trump says he is considering ‘very strong’ military options against Iran as protester death toll climbs.
He is also signaling that the US is preparing to topple Cuba’s leadership by withholding Venezuelan oil from a nation that is teetering on the brink of economic collapse. See New York Post, Trump threatens Cuba to ‘make a deal’ with the US before ‘it is too late’.
Finally, the DOJ served subpoenas on Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell, indicating that he is the subject of a criminal investigation. Powell issued a blistering response in a video that deserves to be watched in its entirety. See Forbes / YouTube, BREAKING NEWS: Fed Chair Jerome Powell Issues Video Statement In Response To Federal Criminal Probe.
The text of Powell’s statement is here:
Powell said, in part,
This new threat is not about my testimony last June or about the renovation of the Federal Reserve buildings. It is not about Congress’s oversight role; the Fed through testimony and other public disclosures made every effort to keep Congress informed about the renovation project.
Those are pretexts. The threat of criminal charges is a consequence of the Federal Reserve setting interest rates based on our best assessment of what will serve the public, rather than following the preferences of the President.
The criminal investigation of the Fed Chair has roiled the markets. See Fortune, U.S. futures slide as Powell investigation rattles markets, sending gold and silver higher.
Everything Trump touches dies. He is destroying the economy and our global alliances with every new ignorant statement and strongman tactic. Our task is to successfully exploit his blunders and self-inflicted wounds. It is a painful but necessary process. This weekend’s protests were a key component of our strategy. Keep up the good work!
Concluding Thoughts
It will take the media a few days to realize the extent of the Ice Out for Good protests. You can help by posting photos on social media. Be sure to text and email friends and family photos of yourself in action. If everyone can recruit one person to the next round of protests, we will be on our way to breaking the 10 million-person barrier and heading for the 100-million-person goal. When that happens, the people will reclaim the government that exists to serve and protect them.
The Ice Out for Good protests were a tremendous success because they were a start.

Took your words to a protest in Cobb County, GA, today, where the weather and turnout were beautiful. Came home and planted the sign in our yard on a prominent corner in Atlanta. This is just the right message - thank you.
Here are a few pictures from our protest in the small town of Key Center, WA. Some 120 people showed up, enjoyed each others’ company, and received lots of honks and hand waves and thumbs up from many people who drove by.

January 10th in South Royalton, VT. Over 100 people from small towns in this rural area…
We had 80 people show up to protest in Dodgeville, WI organized by Indivisible of SW Wisconsin. We woke up to snow but by the time we left our home in Platteville the snow had stopped and the skies were clearing. Protestors gathered at the courthouse. We had horn honks of support and a few thumbs down but we gathered as is our right to protest the murder of Renee Nicole Good.

We filled 2 overpasses in Denver Saturday. The overwhelming support from the drivers lifted our spirits. We are not alone.
About 150-200 people showed up in a misty rain Friday night in downtown Athens for a vigil in memory of Renee Good. There were more young people speaking out which we appreciated seeing and hearing.

About 25 members of the Randolph chapter of Indivisible held a bridge standout over Route 24 on the Randolph/Stoughton line January 10, 2026. It was part of the ICE Out for Good protests. We coordinated with the Brockton, MA Indivisible chapter, who were a few miles south on Rte. 24, so that motorists got a "double dose" of messaging. We can't let this go on.
Our newspaper, the Durango Herald, estimated that 500 people showed up in our little town of Durango, Colorado for a hastily announced rally on Friday night. We rallied in Buckley Pard, then marched on the sidewalk down the length of downtown and back, chanting. Many honks, waves, and thumbs up from passing cars (with only a discouraging word or two...).
Kansas City, MO
Lots going on here in the Kansas City metro area. Demonstrations almost every day. This was yesterday (1/10/25) at Mill Creek Park. Estimated attendance: 1,000+
We had over 600 people in Portland, Maine at the weekly demonstration. Normally there are 75 to 100 every Saturday morning. The crowd was enthusiastic and full of community.
We had almost 200 in the small city of Torrington, in the northwest corner of CT. And it seemed like the majority of people driving by were supporting a spy, honking, and cheering!
A memorial rally for Renee Nicole Good in Belfast, Maine. Saturday, Jan. 10, 2026. A spirited, peaceful, and well-received demonstration. An amateur’s estimate: 500 people for 1.5 hours.
We farm in rural Georgia, where many of our neighbors are big MAGA supporters, and also dependent on government subsidies...
Power to the people! And the goats!
The Proffit Rd Crew, Charlottesville, VA, 11 January
With less than 24 hours notice we got 75 to 100 people on the town Square in a cold but sunny 12 o’clock rally for Renee. In Jackson Wyoming.
More than 400 people came out on Sunday in Pittsfield, Massachusetts, for a rally sponsored by Stand Up Berkshires, Greylock Together, and local Indivisible chapters. Inspiring speakers, great singing, great spirit on a chilly day in western Massachusetts.
Woodbridge, VA
The protest today at the Ventura County Government Center. A protest is held there every Sunday, usually with about 25 protestors. Today there were 500 people, including some of your subscribers!
Thank you for all you do,
Indivisible San Jose set a new record for the second time in one week - 28 participants today on the Overpass. There were so many people we had to take two group photos! Lots of honks and waves on both sides of the overpass and no middle finger salutes.
Today’s ICE Out for Good event at the Home Depot in Cypress Park (near Dodger Stadium) was to honor the 36-37 people who have died in ICE raids or detention. The Northeast Los Angeles Alliance for Democracy made the beautiful placards. After organization speakers addressed the crowd, we walked to the Home Depot entrance, but they locked out the protesters. A few of us went in with customers and walked silently with our signs. Many customers said “thank you.” When police were called, the protesters remained peaceful and walked back to the street.
Daily Dose of Perspective
Friends, I have dozens and dozens of additional photos in my inbox. I will attempt to add more throughout the week.
To avoid the inevitable emails from the theoretical physicist community among the readers of this newsletter, I know gravity is not a force, but is popularly referred to as such. I adopt the convention for metaphorical purposes. For non-physicists among us, gravity is the warping of space-time in response to mass and energy.

Great thanks for Chair Powell for standing up to Trump's thuggery! Hopefully this will be a wake-up call to many in the business community of the dangers of MAGA to our society. And they will weigh in with pro-democratic efforts.
I created this crowdsourced map which shows all the photos Robert had shared in the blog yesterday, plus other #ICEOutForGood protests.
The map is crowdsourced, so you can easily add your own photos to the map along with the location and a short note, and it will automatically appear on the map.
You can share the map with a link or embed it in other websites. Details here:
