Seems like a very good day to me. Between NY, Wisconsin and Chicago, I think we deserve a pat on the back. Hope you feel better soon!!!

I've developed a cold today also, so I sympathize. It's really the first time I've been sick in four years! Going to get those masks out again!

Great news about Wisconsin, I was so pleased! Also, I believe we won the Mayoral race in Chicago and what about those kids in Nashville!! I love that wheels of justice are finally turning, but the good news you've outlined is by far the bigger story.

And I love your tagline! Get well soon!

Didn't you hear about the 3 Democrats that are expected to be expelled tomorrow (Thursday) because of standing up for the kids in Nashville? If not, go find the story on Popular Information. it's disgusting what the RWs are doing.

Yes, I have seen that. I've also seen talk of WI Republicans impeaching Judge Janet. It's terrible, but it reminds me of that old saying, "when you find yourself in a hole, the first thing you should do is STOP DIGGING! I don't think impeachment will fly, but I worry for the TN Dems. But, in the end, it will only make the voters on our side more angry. Republicans need to be shown/told that they need to stop digging, or they're the ones who will be out of office!

I'm not worried so much about WI, because I think the Democrats in that state are making their voices heard. I don't know that in TN. The TN RW is silencing those that do not agree with what they're saying. They're not listening to their constituents NOW. Now is what matters. Not in 2 more years.

For more clarity regarding the R's efforts to impeach newly elected State Supreme Court Judge Janet P of WI, here's a piece from TC inLA's substack article: https://tcinla757.substack.com/p/i-hate-to-harsh-your-mellow-but

Thanks for the link - I read that also. On another thread, a Wisconsinite offered that impeachment was unlikely because the voters there wouldn't stand for it. I guess we'll have to wait and see.

Wisconsin spoke up for democracy.

They spoke up for our nation. They understood the importance of voting. Thanks to all of them and to all who worked together for this outcome.

Now tomorrow’s task, Postcards to Voters in Duvall County Florida to encourage them to apply to vote by mail. Join me, onward!

How 🤔 appropriate that the linchpin witness in the 34 counts is a fellow named Pecker 😀 considering what the so called payments were for. Guess the good Lord has a excellent sense of humor in how everything has come together. Really glad that the efforts in Wisconsin were successful, now America 🇺🇸 must vote 🗳 blue 🗳 💙 in 2024 and every election thereafter to ensure no more underhanded political appointments occur to posts like SCOTUS as in the previous administration's shenanigans. That's the only way to defeat the unfair advantage of gerrymandering that misrepresents our country by expanding the SCOTUS to 13 and the House to recall voting, like they do governors in California successfully for many years now. Bet the people in Florida wish they could do that too, but at least Disney has the last laugh 😃

"Vote Blue in '22 and once more in '24" is a line I started seeing circa 2021. So we got through '22. Now it's on to '24!

Great to hear your Managing Editor's voice, Robert (confirmation that she's real). Hooray for Judge Janet's victory and for Defendent One's arraignment. These wins for democracy can give us momentum for our all the challenges ahead. Time now, though, to revel in today's progress. Yes indeed, we have much to be thankful for. Rest up, get well soon.

Two comments about Trump. First, in all the commentary about yesterday I see literally nothing about what I think is most important: the schedule The next court hearing is not until December. Presumably that is when the court will decide motions to dismiss. The delay until December is hard to explain but I think bad news for Trump because it gives DOJ and Georgia time to do something! Once they charge Trump the NY case will just be background noise. Second, all the angst about how NY will help Trump is ridiculous. He is just preaching to the choir. Is he gaining converts among people likely to vote for a Democrat? Or Independents? Not they I have seen. And that’s all that matters. I don’t care if he gains on DeSantis. In fact that might be a good thing.

Expand full comment

Agree with all you said!

Expand full comment

I’m almost more afraid of DeSantas getting the nomination than Trump. He is more focused and Is honing his destructive skills.

Expand full comment

I agree. DeSantis is all about dehumanizing the LGBT community as an election tactic. Straight out of a 1932 playbook. You could say Trump did the same with Muslims and immigrants but somehow DeSantis seems worse. For DeSantis it is nothing but political opportunism growing directly from his seeing the public reaction to trans women in athletics.

Your suggestion about the DOJ and Georgia indicting him in the meantime is reason enough not to worry so much about the delay until December.

I hate being a "wet blanket," but the fact that the Republicans have won the State Senate seat, giving them a 2/3 majority there, is a direct threat to the "victory" you are celebrating.

The Wisconsin GOP has already revealed what they want to do. They will impeach the winner tonight for "crimes" committed before she ran. They have the majority in the Assembly to impeach her, and now with this victory, the 2/3 majority in the Senate to convict her.

If anyone reading this thinks they wouldn't do this, look at how they eviscerated the powers of the governor between his victory and taking office.

Don't celebrate yet.

Let 'em try, Tom. We shouldn't live in fear. We have to have this fight sooner or later. We should have it now. Suppose they impeach Judge Janet. We run her again. Do you think she will lose after Republicans pull that stunt? To quote Brendan Sullivan, we aren't potted plants. In the meantime, I am celebrating!

Expand full comment

If they do, she can't run again. They don't have to have a new election. They can make an appointment.

Never doubt how terrible these traitors are.

Expand full comment

Meh. And they could do the same for every Democrat holding statewide elected office, including the Governor. You gotta stop focusing on what they might do and think about what Democrats will do in response. If Republicans in Wisconsin want to take the view that Democrats are not permitted to hold office as long as the GOP holds a 2/3 majority in the Senate and a majority in the Assembly, then let's have that fight. Clearly, Democrats are in the majority in the state. They can bring Wisconsin to a halt until the GOP relents. I am not saying it won't happen. I am saying focusing only on what Republicans might do is only have the picture. we are not potted plants.

Expand full comment

Robert. I am not talking about what they *might* do. I am talking about what they said they *would* do if she won and they got the State Senate seat. It was a promise. And anyone who thinks they aren't the scum they are is smoking something I'd like to have some of.

TC, thanks for pointing out the possibilities and danger of a "super majority" in the Wisconsin Senate. Important to know.

But there are times to celebrate. This is one of them. I, for one, am going to wallow in the joy of Judge Janet's victory (large margin), Finland's epic decision to join NATO and the ACTUAL indictment of the Orange One.

None of which should suggest that we be any less vigilant. In fact, I would like to visualize us having wind in our sails as we continue to confront the MAGA madness.

We'll keep our eyes on Wisconsin. But life is short. Taking a victory lap is one of life's small pleasures. Put on your track shoes, friend.

Look what they're doing in TN to 3 Democrats for standing for the rights of kids to not be shot! To have gun control. RWs don't care. Instead TN dropped the age of legal ownership to 18 and are looking at carrying an AR15 with no permit needed. No red flag laws whatsoever in that state. I used to mourn that we moved from TN. Now I'm glad!

I know the wheels of Justice are slow but it is discouraging to wait 8 months for the next hearing. Yes I know there will be other cases rolling out this year. Setting my expectations clock for 2025.

TC, I have spent quite a few hours and dollars in the last few months doing my little bit to help elect Judge Janet. That has ranged from sending postcards to voters, texting voters, sending $$, and even dog sitting yesterday for a friend of a friend who chose to be an election judge this year.

I live 30 miles from the Wisconsin border. But in terms of politics, I live in La La land here in MN. The few folks I have met or worked with in WI live with these threats you outlined every day. And have for many years, especially after the election of Scott Walker. They live with the threats of violence, lack of access to medical care, lousy rural economic conditions that further exacerbate everything, and toxic AM radio that tells them the Libs are to blame.

They are well aware of what is at stake in the Senate, some are frightened and the friend whose dog I’m caring for is considering moving to MN if things don’t improve. Real people with very real investments in doing something; anything to protect their freedom, and all you do is remind them the threats remain. After they have busted their butts for months. Really?

And exactly what do you think that accomplishes today? Further fear and threats to wellbeing? Mission accomplished.

Your statements are accurate and totally not appreciated. I’m heading to friends later tonight to toast the gigantic efforts of my Wisconsin neighbors in Wisconsin style: beer from Minocqua Brewing and deep fried cheese curds. I hope you will spend at least a few moments celebrating with us. We’ll get back to finding solutions later.

First, thanks for the good, hard work you have done to oppose the dark work of the GOP in Wisconsin.

Second, thank you for speaking up about the negativism in previous comments; I commend everyone to read Timothy Snyders "On Tyranny", in which lesson #1 is "Do Not Obey In Advance". There are battles to be won, and there may be some set-backs in the short term, but the way forward does not start with capitulation. As usual, Robert articulates the positive mind-set that supports the good work we are all doing. As someone said, we may be lying in the gutter but we're looking at the stars.

I reread the graphic version of "On Tyranny" on my Kindle occasionally, just to remind myself what needs doing. I have sought to "not obey in advance" for the last 55 years (started the first Earth Day, 4/22/70) but some days are harder than others. I love the idea that I can lie down for a while now and enjoy the stars! Thank you.

After so much work on this, and anxiety this past week, holding my breath the last few days... I am amazed, elated, and inspired. In our GOTV efforts, we heard many detractors, people that were not moved by repro freedom, gun safety, and better districts. I was worried and I am so happy to know so many voted FOR democracy and freedom.

And, I really like your sign-off. Feel better!

Hi Jill! What a pleasant surprise starting my day with your reading. Well done!

What a day yesterday! Not only did Judge Janet Protasiewicz’s victory yesterday create a necessary liberal majority on the Wisconsin Supreme Court, Finland also joined NATO!

I was uplifted on Twitter last night to see a video of students at the University of Wisconsin, Eau Clare waiting in a long line to vote in the Supreme Court election .

https://twitter.com/Victorshi2020/status/1643335773499039744

Then there were the events in Tennessee Monday where 7,000 schoolchildren marched to the Capitol to demand gun safety legislation after a school shooting killed six people last week.

It's become evident that not only are the youth and young adults of this country impassioned to save us, but people across the globe are poised to secure democracies in our nations.

Agree! Very exciting to see long lines of students waiting to vote. I hope next time the lines won’t be so long... if only there were ballot drop boxes, for instance(?). But, many thanks to GenZ for helping save democracy!

I am also celebrating the win of Judge-elect Protasiewicz, but can’t help but notice that she is being referred to as Judge Janet. Feels a little demeaning to me because of the similarity to “Judge Judy” and also because I can’t imagine Dan Kelly being referred to as Judge Dan if he had won. I’m glad that Judge Juan Merchan was referred to as Judge Merchan. I know this is a small point, but I think it is important.

I have received a handful of similar emails. I am sorry you believe that I demeaned Judge Protasiewicz. As you know, for obvious reasons, she sometimes styled herself as "Judge Janet" in her press releases, and her campaign was called "Janet for Justice." Her website's landing page is "Meet Janet." And readers who wrote postcards and made calls sent notes celebrating the win of "Judge Janet." But given negative reader reaction, I will never refer to her by her candidate branding.

You must admit Janet is easier to pronounce than her last name.

Some good news, yes!

BUT, re: Trump's 34 counts, the next hearing is in December?!?? I remember something about "justice delayed".... Surely, none of the lawyers on both sides need 8 more months to prepare for a case we've all seen coming for years. This is surely an instance of rich, white privilege. Robert, am I right about this? Or is it the "business as usual" in lower Manhattan?

And of course this will be eight months during which the Mango Mussolini will rant about the injustice of it all, and his zombie supporters will compare him to Jesus persecuted and crucified. Let's hope the judge watches and listens closely, and gags Trump when appropriate. When, not if.....

Expand full comment

I, too, am angry about the next court appearance being scheduled for DECEMBER! Calendars should be cleared for this important case, if not just to continue the focus and and to keep the rethugs off balance. I am angry that the Ga case wasn’t brought first since they have tapes!!! Some things seem so obvious, but I can only think these smart lawyers are smarter than myself and they know what they are doing.

Expand full comment

Let’s not spend time wringing our hands about court dates. If we do that we’ll find our hands well blistered by December with more waiting for other indictments followed by their delays.

Put your money and talents to GOTV and countering the outrageous misinformation and lies. We can and must do this. Neither Robert nor anyone else has said the path forward would be easy. We are participants in another of America’s grand fights and legacy to stand up for democracy.

As you say Robert, “We have every reason to be hopeful but no reason to be complacent!” Finland becoming part of Nato and the election of Janet Protasiewicz to the Wisconsin Supreme Court are causes for celebration and hope. We still have work to do, yes.

What a great team you and the "managing editor" make, Robert! Hope you feel better soon. Won't complain if she continues to read the audio version on occasion (smile).

Let's cancel the "reality show series" of the former Apprentice lead pretending to be a successful businessman. Every bit of media or appearance comes with a plea for donations from this incorrigible grifter!
