A great one by Robert today! Thank you Robert!

I’ve sent portions of it out to my base & suggest you do the same! Just donated $ to Mecklenburg NC Democratic Party as believe that will be key to winning there. Do whatever you can in these final days while Trump is truly losing his mind. Nothing like it in US history….

Mecklenburg County is leading the charge in North Carolina to get its votes for Kamala Harris. North Carolina also has a slate of great Democratic candidates to break the reactionary Republican supermajority in its state legislature--they just need one (1) to make the flip. Like Harris needs a Congress, NC's next Governor Josh Stein (when he defeats Mark Robinson--who out-Trumps Trump) needs at least veto power to ward off attacks on women's reproductive/healthcare rights, LGBTQ+ rights, civil rights, and so much more.

North Carolina has a lot of attention and resources rightfully going to recovery from Hurricane Helene. In addition to supporting Mecklenburg Democrats, we can support NC's best state legislature candidates through the Tending to Democracy Giving Circle:

https://www.grapevine.org/giving-circle/1XQhnyD/Tending-to-Democracy/

The New York Times recently had a good article detailing the how the North Carolina Republican state legislature passed laws over the past few years that thwarted building codes to protect people and their homes from natural disasters like hurricanes (gift article):

https://www.nytimes.com/2024/10/03/climate/north-carolina-homes-helene-building-codes.html?unlocked_article_code=1.P04.WL_m.AXB0qdlX6n73&smid=url-share

By the way, in 2023, The States Project's Giving Circles raised significant funds for Virginia state legislature candidates that prevented Gov. Glenn Youngkin from getting his hoped for trifecta control and national attention for Republican VP consideration. Our small donations add up, and they work!

Let’s not forget Jeff Jackson running for Attorney General who needs your votes and support.

The odious R thugs in the General Assembly gerrymandered Jeff Jackson out of a congressional district. I counted on him to share what was actually the in the House. My 7th district congress critter is a seditionist who voted not to certify the election on January 6, 2020. He figured that vote would have no personal repercussions for him, and it didn’t. He ran for office to line his pockets. Jeff Jackson will make an excellent attorney general.

Thank you, once again. In 2016, I was concerned that even though it appeared that HRC would win (and she did win the popular vote), that somehow DJT would end up being President. And so the worst possible outcome came to pass. That’s when I truly understood for the first time how just a few states could distort the intent of the majority. In 2020, I was not a big Biden fan, but (of course) voted for him. He turned out to be the right man at the right time, & I’ve been thankful for his dedication & love of country ever since. Now we have Harris/Walz & their supporters who are enthusiastic for a more youthful slate of politicians to lead us into the future. I hope with every fiber of my being that they succeed. I’ve been off the grid for a few days (Milton took out my electric & internet, but nothing serious, just uncomfortable) & upon my return to the grid, I am seeing that the election is (still) close (& how is that even possible!), and doom & gloom rears its ugly head that somehow MAGA will succeed in stealing the vote, & we will lose our democracy. Your reassurance that the new laws that have been set in place to avoid a MAGA takeover on a local level will avoid this possibility is music to my ears. Thank you.

Hi ,Jean in Florida. It’s Kathy in Florida and I’m grateful all is ok and your service has been restored.Helene and Milton tried to throw us off track but we’re back in the game fighting for our democracy!💙

Robert noted his upcoming Oct 22 live discussion with Jay Kuo. If you don’t already follow him, Jay is brilliant and his weekly Sat.post will bring tears to your eyes.😂 His short post yesterday helped to reassure.

“For now, understand that the GOP is manipulating the data, which is manipulating the media, which in turn is driving many people into bouts of anxiety. The race has not fundamentally changed in anyway. They’re trying to vibe shift it, and we should understand that. The antidote to this cynical ploy is action. Donate. Organize. Vote.

Thanks. I’ve been following Jay Kuo, & totally agree with you that he’s great!

I’m looking forward to voting next week when we start early voting here. In my county, 51% of the registered voters are Republicans & 23% are Democrats, while 22% are NPA & 4% minor parties.

Similar stats in my county. We’ll also be voting on Day 1, Oct 21.

And remember, team, we don't have to "flip" every county in Florida or PA, NC, etc. If we just decrease the margin of victory for the Republicans and overperform for Democrats in other bluer counties, we win. What a huge victory in Jean's country for example if the Democrats got 40% of the vote and the raw numbers for Republicans were down from previous elections.

I really like Jay too! And his Saturday "Just for Zeets & Giggles" is loads of fun, even though I don't understand all of the jokes.

AGREE, media has planted and nurtured the spell of fear to form a hateful belief delivered through the messaging of 45 and followers. Harris/Walz have been impeccable with words of hope, success, calling out the misinformation and chaos.

I heard a great line on the radio today: "We're in a poll-er-coaster," and the interviewee suggested that people who are obsessing over the polls should "get a life," and also talked about how pollers (pollsters?) work, in terms of how they start out with a set of assumptions, etc.

Keep on keeping on, Robert. Thank you for all you do and all you write.

The 39 minute dance should be as famous as the 18.5 minute gap in the Watergate tape was in its time, an instantly recognizable cultural and political touchstone. We know the MSM won't make it so but perhaps all the meme creators out there will get it done.

His obvious slurring of words in just two sentences right before he devolves to “dancing”should be replayed on national television. Houston, we have a serious problem level!

Expand full comment

Thank you, Robert. A 39 minute dance routine!!! This is the first I have heard of this. Every person who votes for Trump should be made to watch this and respond to the question: "Is this the sort of person you want as President of the United States?" A man who is not interested in policies, has no experience with linear thought, and is completely lacking in human empathy.

Every media outlet must address this. But of course they won't.

The opening of the Rachel Maddow show last night had Rachel bebunking the Republican excuses as to why they will vote for Trump such as “ it’s a business decision or “ he is better on the economy etc. what makes this segment compelling is the real facts about what the Biden Administration has done and is doing which most Americans do not realize. This was followed up with an interview with Bob Woodward about his book “ War” where he details how Biden has managed to stave off the use of nuclear weapons in Ukraine and contained the aggressive use of the military in the Middle East by Netanyahu. This is what a real leader does and when compared to the crazy rhetoric of Trump and the use of the military you know whom you need to vote for. This program is important because it again reminds us what the Biden Administration has accomplished and what the Harris Administration will continue to do.

I think we are misjudging the Republican agenda. They are smart enough to know Trump's physical condition will not allow him to hold office longer than a couple months they will push to declare him unfit and put the "puppet" JD Vance into the presidency. They're true goal. He will allow the Project 2025 to be instituted. They have taken him out of the news and attention of the voting populace

This is a very serious scenario that I think the Harris campaign should be bring up everyday.

Geoff your in fantasy land. It would require a Senate vote to make that happen not just Republicans. Vance is a real threat who even if defeated at age 40 is not going anywhere

Is the consistent misspelling of Erie PA intentional?

Expand full comment

The misspelling probably is just an artifact of an unhelpful autocomplete function in Robert's software.

Expand full comment

It's still early in the Eastern time zone. Could the spelling of Erie be corrected, Robert? Autocorrect or not, and all of us had made mistakes in our postings, I know I have, but when it is the name of a city in a swing state it rankles. I am sure citizens of Erie are used to this, but the mistake appears twice in Robert's comments. It would be a nice gesture.

Wouldn't you think George W Bush would see this as well? As Robert writes: "Trump is descending into madness. The major media should lead every news cycle with scorching questions about Trump's mental fitness—right after stories about his promise to use the military against the American people. Trump is unraveling in front of our eyes."

Let's hear from more big Republican guns! Surely, they can't believe our country will actually survive 4 years of Trump and his acolytes? Domestic policy set by Steph Bannon and Stephen Miller? Foreign policy set by Michael Flynn? Justice run by Rudy? When will the rest of the GOP wake up and sniff the coffee and follow Liz Cheney to do the right thing?

Greetings, everyone! Today early voting began in Georgia, and I was one of the first voters. I had hoped to be the very first at my local voting site, but when I arrived 30 minutes before the doors opened, a considerable line had already started. I spoke with several voters as we exited, and they were all as enthusiastic as I am for Harris. I feel so much lighter having accomplished what I have been wanting to do for months — voting for Democrats all the way down the line. Now I will spend the rest of the day on postcards because we still have 21 days to try to convince voters of how important this election is. Go Blue!

Robert writes: "Glenn Youngkin is, of course, a surrogate for every Republican politician who pretends to be a reasonable and moral leader with the nation's best interests at heart. In reality, they are faithless cowards whose only loyalty is to themselves. They represent the worst of America. " Substitute JD Vance for Glenn Youngkin and it still works.

Action and engagement are required!! Here’s an opportunity. A friend - a retired DA - has spent the past 2 months in Lewisburg, PA volunteering for Harris to get out the vote - away from home, friends, etc.

She texted… “Only 3 weeks left. It’s unbelievable how fast time is flying. Want to get a car and air BnB and knock on doors here? Bring 4 people. We need you. I have supporter housing I can put you up in. Just the plane ticket to Harrisburg or Philly and a car…“

There you go… a very tangible opportunity. Let me know if interested.

Please comment on social media...."Not suckers or losers" to vets groups, military, military dependents, history sites. Vote vets has thousands of testimonials of 2020 Trump voters that flipped. According to Facebook, there are 4 million veterans or active duty members on Facebook, and 12.5 million family members of veterans or active duty members on Facebook. Requires constant reminders.

I also like "Trump hates dogs," "Trump stole from kids with cancer," and "don't slit your own throat" as comments. Repeat daily.

Thank you Robert for this incredible analysis. The link to my Act Blue Express account to donate to MeckDems worked beautifully. Everyone needs to remember more than 700 former national security and defense officials across administrations going back at least to GW Bush have endorsed VP Harris for President. Are they donating to her campaign, phone banking, canvassing? I do not know the answer. I'm sure quite a few of these people live in Virginia! Youngkin is done. I do not know how to get the message across, but VP Harris needs to make a major national security speech somewhere and soon. Perhaps Retired General Stanley McChrystal could introduce her. VP Harris is doing a town hall on CNN October 23. I'm not sure if it will be phoned in questions or people in an audience. I'm not sure who will be moderating the town hall. And remember - There are innumerable Republicans for Harris, some of them on a bus tour through PA and MI this week. I can't watch all these videos except early in the day. I will watch the last ten minutes of yesterday's speech this morning while I'm writing postcards. Thank you. Only 21 more days!

Timothy Snyder has recorded a 10 minute audio about the consequences of the Trump-Vance deportation plan. It will touch every American’s life. “Faithless cowards” is such lovely phrasing—because accurate and succinct. Kamala should make that 10 minutes her drumbeat to Nov. 05–so patriotic and persuasive. I take heart from the fact that The Donald is telling his faithful that they can cast their ballot for him 2 months after the polls close (Jan. 05). How Freudian is that slip(?). And where is the mainstream media in covering the sad truth the guy doesn’t even know or care about his misleading advice(?). It’s bleach injection time all over again.

Gayle King’s comment just now on CBSMorning about the trump 39 minute music session said, “Everyone loves good music!” Nothing about how bizarre that was during a town hall. What is wrong with the media?

NPR just said, "medical emergencies forced Trump to abandon the town hall," and then played a short clip of him asking for music. ---not exact quote, but the meaning is the same. It did not put into perspective how bizarre it was, or mention how long the musical weirdness lasted.
