As we each have the job to speak up, getting out the vote is essential. No room for Democratic complacency! Some states close their voter registration in the next few days.
Our shero Jessica Craven shows the way on her "Chop Wood, Carry Water" with an easy app, SwipeBlue, for us to do our part using the most effective method, relational organizing--making our voices heard, talking to our friends and neighbors, and following up with a simple swipe to remind them to vote!
Thanks, Ellie ! Voter reg in Florida has now closed so critical we continue to “make our voices heard”.
Fellow Floridians, please message that Rubio received over 1 million from big Pharma and is sponsoring the bill to roll back Medicare drug pricing controls.
Right on ! We need to speak up when injustice is supported. Taken a step further, I’m reminded of Thomas Jefferson stating “when injustice becomes law, resistance becomes duty.”
I remember hearing Tim speak in 2012 about a book he wrote, A Mindful Nation, about a meditation practice. I was really impressed and wished I could vote for him.
Re the fundraising event: In case I"m not the only one who could get confused, I clicked on Robert's link expecting to see a button or link that said Register. In fact under the announcement and "Please Join" it said:
Zoom Link Upon RSVP (this was underlined but I can't underline here!)
So I was trying to click on that last line, and it wasn't live. Then I finally figured out that I just had to scroll down to the Act Blue donate form right below and make the donation! Once I made my donation, I got an email saying I was registered. Can't wait!!
I’m not a big fan of Michael Moore but I respect his right to bring attention to major political and social issues addressed in documentaries. I applaud the content but not the self promotion. The reason I mentioned this is because he has created the “ Tsunami of Truth” which is predicting that “ Roevember” will be an overwhelming and unprecedented wave of voters frustrated and fed up with the Republican Party who will come out in masse. He gives specific examples including “ nutters” candidates who are totally unqualified ( think Hershel Walker) and voters who just have “ had enough”. As I read everyday the racists and comments about abortion, Medicare, Social Security and drug prices I keep thinking where is the outrage.? I am hoping that Michael Moore is correct and this quiet outrage will manifest itself in massive voter turnout. As a friend said to me yesterday pollsters don’t measure outrage.
All the polls in the world - none of them can predict who will actually show up to vote. Normally, millions of people plan to and don't. But maybe, just maybe, there is enough disgust and anger brewing that we will prevail in most contests.
"Nutters" is perhaps the best description of GQP candidates yet....Walker may be the poster child.
I hope they turn out but I am worried. I watched a piece I this morning on MSNBC which showed interviews with non voters who showed absolutely no interest in voting in the mid-terms. One of them even has an “organizer” sister. What will it take to get them to the polls?
I agree with every word you have written. More importantly, Michael Moore has described me exactly. I believe that there a silent and determined majority of voters ~ including Republicans who are not comfortable speaking their platform-contrary values ~ and we will prevail in November.
"I'm as mad as hell and I'm not going to take this anymore" Howard Beale character in "Network", a film that is as relevant today as when it was released almost 50 years ago.
Polling seems to miss the voters in the weeds because the sampling doesn't access the ones newly motivated to show up, whether they be conservative or liberal. I suspect they'll have missed the ladies angry about forced-birth decisions and now ready to be counted.
I’m not a pollster but I believe they could miss certain demographic groups and people but those missed have to come out and vote. Pollsters can’t predict turnout which drives all poll numbers
I worried as well when I heard him say that, he knows well the machinations that republicans go thru to “tilt the scales.” I think that the outrage over the plan to sunset the social safety net is sorely lacking. Dem candidates don’t mention it enough. Repubs lie about it. The old MAGAts I know would wet their Depends if their Medicare and SS were gone.
I hope this doesn’t sound like a rant, but maybe it is. I am so angry at the Democrats who are not bringing the fight to these campaigns. Yes, TC, an old friend has called them the “dim Dems” for years. They have left Tim Ryan out to dry. They have failed to sound the alarm about the very real threat to democracy. Some bright light decided it would be a good idea to support the extreme candidates in the primaries because they thought they could beat them more easily and look what’s happened. They actually could win. Republicans have kicked our butt for so many years now because they have all stuck together and know how to fight. Last night I heard Michael Steele say that the Dems should be working with Katie Hobbs in Arizona to debate Kari Lake and show how unqualified and radical she is. Katie should be able to demolish Lake. And where are the big Democratic donors? So many of these campaigns have done well because of us small donors. Why don’t Michael Bloomberg, Tom Steyer (and others) make more of an effort? Ok. I’m done.
This is so awesome! I follow MideasTouch on Twitter and they had reposted it. An incredible bullet point of all Biden and Dems have created for all Americans by an amazing young man.
One of the seminal influences on my adult life was the example of my late father-in-law, Norman Fellman, a devout Jew, who was also a Prisoner-of-War, incarcerated at Berga for nine months, after being captured at the Battle of the Bulge's southern flank, near Metz. Pop was a conservative Republican, all his adult life, but he abhorred the thought of Donald Trump ever taking the oath of any office. He'd have been proud of Liz Cheney. Being of the opposite political persuasion, I daresay he'd have been sick to death of the comments being made about Jews, by Trump loyalists. I am grateful that he did not live to see this day.
On another note, there is the minor spectacle of Tulsi Gabbard, who I once respected, fulminating about "anti-white racism". In nearly seventy-two years on this planet, I can count on one hand the number of times that a person of colour has called me out for the colour of my skin. In visits with "woke" (how I despise that term) people, I have only been treated kindly and with all manner of respect. Maybe that has to do with how I approach them. Finally, I am just as incensed by diatribes towards poor whites, Appalachians, trailer-dwellers, homeless veterans, as I am towards diatribes against people of colour. Suffering is suffering, and only a united front will put an end to the worst of it.
I am going to make a donation to Tim's campaign but as I am 9 hours ahead of Pacific Time and just can't stay up that late, will not be able to do it here. Thank you though.
Tim Ryan and Sherrod Brown should be the future role models for Democrats. They are the antithesis of the "coastal elites". They are the ones who speak to "the dignity of work" and traditional Democratic Party values.
The link splits the donation 3 ways, to Ryan, OH Dems, and some other group. In addition to our donation on that link , we are also donating on Ryan’s site directly, timforoh.com
In reading Kanye's remarks, I couldn't help but be reminded of the session he had with Trump in the Oval Office in 2018. At the time, I thought to myself that here were two people with some serious psychological problems. Add to that the comment from the minority members of the House Judiciary Committee, the unfitness of many of their candidates, and the complete abasement of their leadership, it becomes obvious that there is a serious pathological illness running through the Republican party. Where could this go from here? Not to be an alarmist, but in "The Garden of the Beasts", about Germany in the early 1930s, author Erik Larson gives us a chilling perspective on what can happen when seriously impaired leaders rise to power.
I just made our fourth contribution to Tim Ryan. He is a quality person with principles, intelligence and strength to do the right thing. He reminds us that the best leaders are not perfect. They make mistakes, accept responsibility and move on to the next successful pursuit. That is Tim Ryan. We need to support him now, and I hope the National Democratic Party gets it act together and supports him.
I immediately donated to Tim Ryan's campaign. I'm so grateful to have had the opportunity to 'get to know' him through your column. He is DEFINITELY a great candidate and just what our country needs. I live 6 hours 'ahead' time wise, so I won't be able to attend your interview, but I am so happy others will be able to see it!
“Don’t let them yank your chain.” ~ Rachel Maddow (final few minutes of her appearance on Alex Wagner’s MSNBC show, 10/11/2022). Rachel is drawing a lesson from America's 1940’s struggle against fascism, and it’s acutely important for today. She goes on to point out, "When somebody tries to make you outraged, that means your outrage is you playing their request.”
As a psychotherapist, I urge my clients to do the same thing — resist handing over their internal mood control to another person who’s behaving outrageously. Vaccinations aim at the same thing — building up immunity to outside disruptions. I encourage other readers to do what I aim at and what Robert models with such power: Re-purpose my fear and outrage toward resolve and action. No wallowing in “how horrible and hopeless it all is.”
Have you read the Salon online article re. Michael Moore’s Tsunami of truth(s)? It basically reinforces your statement RE. Potential for upset. I always like you’re closing line, we should be confident but not complacent? All the best, and thanks!

Rubio is not a RINO. He is a HINO (Human in name only)
Right on ! We need to speak up when injustice is supported. Taken a step further, I’m reminded of Thomas Jefferson stating “when injustice becomes law, resistance becomes duty.”
Good stuff, bob. I hope you raise a bundle for Ryan. The Dims are too dim to see what's right there in front of them.
"The Dims".....thanks for showing me my new word for the day.
Donating as we post.

From your lips to voters ears to the ballot box.
I think there is outrage. Even Penzey's spices created a blend called "Outrage of Love" and gave it away free. Of course I ordered a bottle.
(I am still terrified Repubs might win so I am writing as many postcards as I can to get out the vote.)
Me too. I buy a lot of spices from Penzey’s. Their emails are inspiring.

I just went to the act blue website and donated directly to him. Will do the same for others. I have an account with act blue.
Thanks!!
That was easy. Love ActBlue. Did it. Thanks!

I love them also. I’m also very impressed by John Fetterman and Mandela Barnes. Also very down to earth and very articulate.
Thank you for that very convenient link...just sent $25 to Mr. Ryan!

Thank you, John M! I just donated to this site too!!
Thank you! Donated.
Thanks, Jon. Much better. Went via your link and it took all of 30 seconds to donate to directly to Tim.
