Thanks for your analysis of the Iran fiasco, and thanks for posting the protest photos. I’m always amazed and thrilled at the imagination and creativity of the protesters.

I watched a Livestream in YouTube on the war last night headlined by Senators Kaine and Van Hollen. They want and need our help in getting the whole Congress to act to stop the war. I am an oral historian, so I did a short interview with myself. Feel free to forward.

Q: What does the grassroots democracy movement, the entire Democratic Party, 80 percent of the American people, and half of the MAGA base (not to mention most of the rest of the world) agree on?

A: The war on Iran must end. It is immoral, illegal, based on lies, has no real purpose, is killing too many people today, is costing gazillions of dollars, is run by political idiots, is failing in every way except lethality, will waste another generation of working class people’s lives in the US, and in a very real way is sentencing Americans to decades of hatred and terrorism and insecurity (Khamenei was the religious leader of the Shia the world over). It is also domestic political treachery. Trump promised his base over and over, no more forever wars and now our servicemembers are being killed. (And no one is saying the Iranian regime was/is anything but awful.).

Q: Why doesn’t someone stop it? Where is Congress?

A: You can make the Congress stop it. The Democrats in Congress are united and the first step is to vote for the War Powers Act which will come to a vote repeatedly until it is passed. Today, right now, write to or call every member of Congress you can and urge they vote for the War Powers Act. Remember, even if it is a close vote today, that helps move the needle. Let’s do this. There will be more, but let’s start now.
