I hope that SOMEONE will convict Trump on at least ONE of his many crimes. He is slippery as an eel, and I despair of him ever being locked in a cell where he belongs! Our Attorney General is a big disappointment so far.

The last that I heard, the New York State Attorney General does not feel that he has a prosecutable case against Trump and the Trump Organization.

He has broken laws. He took 15 cases of White House documents, that should have gone to the National Archives, to Florida with him. They contained classified documents to boot. How can he be permitted to run for President again is beyond me!

Thank you for what read to me as a "Special Edition". It was bursting with important news and enough background to slow down the typical rush to end. The Axios link to the International Criminal Court announcement also led to a rich, newsreel-like parade of current stories. Your reminder of ridding ourselves of Fox was also much appreciated. I keep forgetting to do that. In your final thoughts, 'Most importantly, we must never panic, and we must not confuse temporary setbacks with permanent defeat.' I would suggest more calm, which fuels thinking, concentration and planning. I tend to get stuck in one area for too long to the exclusion of needs, such as relaxation, rest, enjoyment, self-care and other worthy pursuits Onward!

Trump is on tape bullying the GA Secretary of State to “find the votes.” Why is this alone not actionable. Ditto the SDNY case. Ditto, Mueller Report, Michael Cohen testimony, Mazars, and so much more.

100% correct! Those crimes are clear and their proof is easy. Why hasn't Garland indicted Trump for any of those violations of law?

Deport Rupert Murdoch, he is the Goebbels of our time, along with the clones who envy his power

Murdoch's willingness to allow a news organization to transmit disinformation and support Putin over the last six years has been one of the biggest threats to our democracy.

-and it started almost as soon as Reagan was elected. Quote from Jack Kemp at a dinner honoring Rupert in DC in Jan 1981 "representative Jack Kemp, a New York Republican, said, 'Rupert Murdoch used the editorial page, the front page, and every other page necessary to elect Ronald Reagan.'" The Putin love came later, but the stage was set...

I have often shared Robert's frustration with Garland. It's like beating a dead horse now.

I have come to the conclusion that there are worse things than having to wear an orange jumpsuit if you are TFG. Being viewed as a financial failure - happening now as the organization begins to collapse - the brand is now toxic, banks won't lend. Big loans are coming due. When the contributions dry up...the asset fire sale will ensue. Mar A Logo will go. Golf clubs and courses will shun him.

And then there will be his reputation as being soft on and friendly with a war criminal. I am being kind. We suspect worse. That will be revealed if true.

The spiral dive for both Putin and TFG are in motion. It's the beginning of the end for both. Hundreds of thousands are in their graves because of these two. Millions are mourning. That is quite a legacy.

TFG will be lower in reputation than Nixon. Closer to Benedict Arnold.

Today’s newsletter has spurred me on to ridding our household of FOX News.

We use Verizon Fios and their “Mix and Match 2.0” option, which must be asked for specifically, can change one’s list of channels. Thank you for reinspiring us!

Yes! Biden has done an excellent job under extremely difficult circumstances. Yes! More than a few GOP members of Congress are unhinged and should be booted out of government, but won't be due to weak leadership. Yes! GOP enablers like Tucker Carlson are traitors to their country. Yes! Vladimir Putin is a war criminal and will go down in history as such.

And Yes! Donald Trump committed numerous crimes and belongs in prison. This is no longer a kabuki dance. The evidence is overwhelming. Merrick Garland do your job! (Where is the indictment of Mark Meadows, more than two months after he was referred to the DOJ for prosecution?) Justice delayed is justice denied. All sane Americans are crying out for justice!

Expand full comment

VERY good point. For those who apologize for Garland's absence of action, where indeed is an indictment of Meadows, who gave the middle finger to a congressional committee two months ago and is earning appearance fees on right wing media at his leisure instead of defending himself in court. If Garland won't enforce congressional subpoenas, then he has single-handedly demoted Congress from its role as a co-equal branch of government.

Expand full comment

Charles, I write to clarify that a congressional committee cannot issue a referral for prosecution. Congress can issue a criminal referral to DOJ, which the Department then would consider. Presuming there is sufficient factual predication to open up a criminal investigation, charges would be filed only if the Department were certain it had gathered sufficient evidence to convict.

Please note I provide this clarification to ensure that those who press DOJ to act demonstrate their understanding of procedure.

Thank you for the clarification.

What you said, Robert. In a perverse way, Garland’s silence is almost convincing that DOJ is preparing go after T___p; how could he be deaf to what has been revealed? But perfect is the enemy of good enough. Timing is important, and the time is now. Long enough before the mid-terms for an indictment not to seem like only politics to those who would not say that whenever it happens. (That last sentence is one the governor should commute, but I don’t have time to fix it right now.).

Expand full comment

Yes, but what about my comment above: Garland has a menu of crimes to indict, starting with the crime in which he is named as a unindicted co-conspirator and the other defendant (MIchael Cohen) went to jail. There are 12 instances of obstruction of justice in Mueller's report. There is Georgia. There is extorting Ukraine. Garland doesn't even have to dirty his hands with the coup or the insurrection.

Expand full comment

Happy not to argue with you, Robert! My point--which was not entirely serious--was that with all of this out there, at the top of the page, maybe Garland's silence means that he really is not stone deaf--that his people really are working on it. I sure hope so. Of course you are right that there is much from before the insurrection to indict TFG on (are the statutes of limitations expiring on some of the 2016 crimes soon?). And let him do it, or as you have suggested before, get out of the way.

Expand full comment

Too bad a new Attorney General (a position appointed by the President) would have to be confirmed by the senate. I think this is actually where the problem is. The GOP has Garland in its pocket and Biden can't get rid of him. There sure is a LOT riding on the upcoming elections.
