The would-be assassin who broke into Nancy Pelosi’s home and brutally attacked her husband, Paul, repeatedly asked, “Where’s Nancy?”
“Where’s Nancy?” was the rallying cry of the cowards and traitors who assaulted democracy on January 6, 2021.
Where was Nancy as Trump’s followers beat officers and defecated in the halls of Congress on January 6th? She was acting as the de facto Commander-in-Chief as Trump lounged in front of his big-screen television, stuffing his face and enjoying the spectacle of his followers assaulting the citadel of democracy.
Where was Nancy on January 6th? She was on the phone with the acting Secretary of Defense, the acting National Security Director, the acting Attorney General, and the governors of two states as she tried to rouse an unresponsive and compromised Article II branch of government to come to the aid of the Article I branch of government.
She was pleading with law enforcement and military agencies to protect all members of Congress, even those who incited their followers to hunt for Speaker Pelosi in the halls of the Capitol and who would vote to overturn a free and fair election before the smoke had cleared or the dead buried and the injured treated.
She was on the phone with Vice President Mike Pence, worried about his safety and consulting on a plan to reconvene the constitutional mandate of counting electoral ballots.
Where was Nancy in the year-and-half that followed January 6th? She was leading the Democratic caucus in the House in the most successful legislative session in fifty years.
“Where’s Nancy” as we face one of the most important elections of our lifetime? She is traveling to hundreds of cities and dozens of states as she rallies Democrats to prevent Republicans from dismantling the framework of the Constitution.
“Where’s Nancy” tonight? She is with her husband, Paul, as he recovers from a brutal attack meant for Speaker Pelosi.
The cowards and traitors and deluded followers of Trump can ask “Where’s Nancy” all they want but they won’t like the answer— for it will always be that “She is doing the people’s business with integrity and compassion and courage.” The nation is fortunate to have her at this fraught time.
“Where’s Nancy?” The times have found Nancy Pelosi—at the forefront of the battle to preserve democracy.
I am opening the comments to this edition to all readers.
Stay strong, be safe, and stay focused. That is what Nancy would want us to do.
Talk to you on Monday.
and Vice President Mike Pence
Apologies for the stray line after the sign off. I am traveling and drafted this piece on my cell phone. Did not see the extra line.
