I saw a video of Elon Musk in the Oval Office yesterday and was really puzzled. This man is severely impaired - and for a make up driven crowd of clowns nobody offered him some concealer for that black eye ? There is something wrong with the Tesla Board that they want him back as a full time functioning CEO. They are looking down the barrel of a gun. He cannot do it and run his exploding rocket assemblies in Texas at the same time.

Poor Robert has so much info to process that he did not mention the 50% tariff on imported steel which the economic wizard announced yesterday. That should deal a blow to our domestic auto industry and construction industry for the time being or before he decides to TACO again.

How I long to live long enough to watch the Neurenberg Trials sending these Maga traitors to the Slammer.

Just for fun, you can add the following to join the TACO acronym:

BURRITO:

Blatantly Unconstitutional Rewriting of the Rules of International Trade, Obviously

CHURRO:

Courts Have Ultimate Responsibility to Restore Order

SALSA:

Shaky Alliances Lopsided Strategies and trade Antagonism

Thanks, Robert, for explaining the stay. I was highly upset when I thought that Trump won this tariff argument. Knowing that he hasn’t, helps me to breathe again. Will be going out again tomorrow to protest again at Tesla. I got real satisfaction yesterday when I heard that another federal judge ruled lawsuits against Elon and DOGE can proceed. If you think Musk is going away, think again. https://finance.yahoo.com/news/elon-musk-is-not-leaving-washington-quietly-125906035.html

If Trumplethinskin has dumped both the ABA and Leonard Leo/Federalist Society as sources of vetting for judges, who is he going to rely on? Matt Kacsmaryk? Aileen Cannon? It boggles the mind.

The only real setback would be a Supreme Court ruling that tariffs are legit. That would, in turn, pretty much be the last nail in the coffin of the Roberts Court.

"Trump is attempting a slow-rolling coup."

The Republican Party, as personified by Trump, is bent on a coup.

I don't believe Republicans in Congress and state positions are cowed by Trump and his mob. They were praying for the American 'big man' who would help them repurpose our constitutional Republic as a ChristoFascist state. For decades David Duke had sold them on Putin as the Great White Hope of white supremacist Christian nationalism. After Jan 6, Mitch McConnell and Senate Republicans could have stopped Trump - before he had the second term pardon power to assemble his cadre of the criminal wealthy and violent. Loyal to Trump alone and obviously operating outside the law.

"Impeach. Convict. Remove." As you said, Robert, that's it!

But what are our chances now? Better after the '26 election, I would hope. What will it take to shake up all the very frightened and intimidated Republicans in Congress? Seems like a "Catch 22." Want to be free of the controlling monster? You can do this, people. Or perhaps you actually like what's happening to our democracy? Yes, a slow coup. By a self-serving, ignorant monster. How inglorious!

"Yes, a slow coup. By a self-serving, ignorant monster."

It took decades for racist right wing religious extremists to take over the GOP. They did not swallow the elephant whole. They ate it bite by bite before $#!++!"@ it out as a Trump presidency. Nixon's Southern Strategy. Reagan's Movement Conservatives in bed with the Religious Right. The Bundys occupying a federal facility with local GOP support. Winking and nodding at antiabortionists assassinating physicians and bombing health care facilities. Charles Koch bagman, court capture operative, and rabid religious extremist Leonard Leo funneling dark money through shell companies to antidemocratic causes - from the Federalist Society, Heritage Foundation, and Teneo Network to Moms For Liberty and a myriad of other initiatives.

And Yes, they like that our constitutional republic is being repurposed as a white supremacist ChristoFascist state. These are the blood and ideological heirs of the Confederacy and the Robber Barons. For decades David Duke sold them on Putin as the Great White Hope of Christian Nationalism. Murdoch media sold them on Orban. There is a direct line from William F. Buckley through George Wills to Alex Jones. With the destruction of the New Deal, Great Society progressive administrative state, Populists get to enforce their prejudices and Plutocrats get deregulation and tax exemptions.

Apocalypse Now. Trump's second coming is an answer to their prayers

I wonder whether Musk's alleged departure will affect the Tesla protests. They do offer a handy site for meeting the like-minded and discussing further actions. Of course, hanging out with the like-minded is not our real work, but regular dose of solidarity feels good to keep going.

I just saw a WaPo headline saying that the Supremes have voted to allow Trump to revoke the status of 530,000 legal immigrants. I cannot read the story because I cancelled my subscription. Do you know anything about that, Robert, or anyone. I am just off to a Benefits over Billionaires rally at Tillis' office. Thanks.

Do you think that HHS' cancellation of Moderna's contract could be successfully challenged in court?

Michael Alexander's avatar

I’m not a lawyer, but part of my professional background is that of manager in a federal laboratory. Federal contracts can often be terminated “for convenience”. If “convenience” can be applied by the Trump Administration, then it would seem that challenging the termination of Moderna’s contract would not be successful.

Robert? Other lawyers?

Ellen here-Thank you Robert for your tireless explanations of all these legal decisions. I applaud the work of the judiciary and the hope it brings to all of us. I still find myself wondering how effective these decisions will be without any apparent enforcement clout to them. Is there something I'm missing or is there a way to actually enforce these decisions?
