Jay Kuo makes an excellent case for consistently MOCKING trump by everyone in sight, exposing his weakness at every possible turn. I concur, and am glad Newsom is taking up the baton.
Just read a NYT article about an appeals ruling that "A federal appeals court panel cleared the way on Wednesday for the Trump administration to continue refusing to spend billions of dollars in foreign aid, finding that aid organizations that had sued to recover the money lacked the legal right to bring the challenge."
To be honest, I sort of get it. It seems that it's CONGRESS'S job to insist the president spend money that they allocated. I'm bummed that this is happening, but another side of my thinks it's more than high time to call CONGRESS on abdicating its responsibilities. Do we the citizens have any recourse when our Congress completely rolls over? Yes--vote them out.
I know this won't be a popular opinion, but I truly do think the heat needs to be on Congress. Maybe, just maybe, there will eventually be some silver lining that Congress needs to step up.
If you accept that Trump is attempting to march the United States into a new "Gilded Age," then our financial future becomes clear.
There were eight major market panics during the Gilded Age (1863-1913), and while all of them were predictable in retrospect, few of the market tools we use today to predict and get control of a panic existed at the time. The losses due to each panic were unquantifiable except for the last, the Panic of 1907, during which markets suffered a 50% loss.
Trump and his acolytes are currently attempting to do away with many of the market controls and measuring sticks (BLS, etc.) that we have in today's economy, so we may not know when the next panic will occur -- except to see signs after the fact -- and we may be less able to control it.
So the market will hum along nicely -- until one day it doesn't. And if it happens, Trump will blame "woke" economists or any other scapegoat that comes ready to hand. Not a pretty prospect.
Thanks Robert for reminding us about the power of humor. I read about the Serbian youth and their movement last winter. It took two years but they won. Trump has no sense of humor. It is his soft animal spot, totally vulnerable and exposed. I have often thought this is the way to disarm him. A consistent movement based on satire and humor.
Don't trivialize Trump's moves in DC. Here's a little thought experiment.
If you want to know what might really behind Trump's move to take personal command of the DC police and place military on the streets of DC, run this little thought experiment through your imagination.
Pull up the tape in your memory of the insurrection at the Capitol on January 6th, 2021, and replay it under the current circumstances where Trump commands the DC cops and already has military on the ground.
Do you imagine a different outcome?
Now use your imagination for what might lie ahead.
Before Trump gets to sit, surrounded by sycophants and family, in the New American Colosseum, watching Death Match 2026 ,(Rarely deserved kudos to the Taliban, for showing the good sense to ban this stuff outright), he has to live long enough. Nature has a way of taking us all in hand, as it did with Stalin and Mao.
Someday we will build a new museum on the Washington Mall. It will be dedicated to Democracy. We'll feature how we overcame the attempts at destroying it, the vision we refused to let go of throughout this decade, and who the heroes were during these hard times. It will also list the enemies we had to face: a would-be king; incompetent cabinet members; leaders who fed on cruelty; the cowardice of elected officials, of universities, of corporations, of legacy media; lies, lies and more lies that were told to divide us and to keep the out-of-control neoliberal system in power; our susceptibility to these lies; the corruption of our judicial system, of our election system; the attacks on our freedoms, etc.
Yes, all this will be featured in our new museum. We'll tell young visitors what new guardrails we put in place to protect the future of our Democracy so they can learn from our mistakes and from our ability to reconstruct.
On opening day the entire Mall will be festooned with American flags, there will be millions of us admiring the grandeur of our capital, we'll dance in the streets, we'll exchange hugs with people we don't know, and tears of joy will be streaming down our face. Yes!
Trump lives in his own self-inflicted UFC event in which there is something for his imagination to fight all the time. No sooner does one thing arise (e.g. Greenland), then it is displaced by another. He is like a living kaleidoscope. This Friday comes the biggest Trump 2.0 UFC event so far--capitulation to Putin (once again) and abandonment of Ukraine (once again). Never fear, this will last until it doesn't.
I feel that continuing Newsom's style is allowing Trump to drag down the appearance of our whole country
It does feel like a seismic shift illustrated by how the New York Times covered his DC takeover. Thanks for pointing this out!
FUBAR and what an idiot he is!
Thanks for this uplifting article. I got a huge laugh from the inspired Newsom message. Just what all of us need.
What is UFC?
Thanks for spelling it out - at least once.
And is there a history or a culture we should know about?
Ultimate Fighting Championship

Anyone notice that the WSJ leaks stopped after Maxwell was interviewed by Blanche? 1000% she's going to flee the minute she walks off of club fed.

I hope this article is published and forwarded! The daughter of a dear friend of mine was working at CDC when they attack happen.
It's time for the 10,000,000 person national protest. If we wait much longer, it may be too late.

A helpful article about the movement
