If you keep reading the comments section here every day, some great people will give you more explicit good ideas. Also, Jess Craven always has a lot of action suggestions in her chop wood carry water substack. All my elected are Dems, so I don't often phone or write to them as they are already doing what they can, but at the end of her daily posts, Jess often lists other things you can do, and I usually do those. You may find helpful suggestions there. Next time Cheryl Johnson comments here she will probably list a myriad of actions we all can take. Thank you for inquiring about what you can do - so many people are apathetic even today, so your interest and intention means a lot to all of us.

Are you serious? Support Talarico, of course. Give $, time and energy. Write postcards - there are many postcard campaigns, and soon there should be some directly for Talarico. Meanwhile, write "general information" postcards to any campaign you find in TX. Educating voters is key. Contribute to Vote.org and other organizations promoting voter registration. The list is endless!
Scanning the headlines after the Texas Republican runoff, one could easily come to believe that Trump has an iron grip on the hearts and minds of conservatives in the USA.
Here are a few headlines I spent seconds finding:
"Trump Endorsement Helps Paxton Rout Cornyn"
"Seemingly endless appetite for GRIFT and CORRUPTION’: Nicolle reacts to Trump's DEATH GRIP on GOP"
"Trump scores a trophy in Texas as he hunts down Republican rivals"
If there were such a thing as true reporting, you'd see headlines that read:
"Discouraged Republicans don't bother to vote"
or:
"Low Republican turnout results in big MAGA win"
But, since our news media are owned by billionaires, and since they LOVE Trump, you're not going to see any headlines like that.
The numbers seem to give credence to my assertion. Paxton won his crushing victory over Cornyn with only 846,000 votes. Cornyn got 501,000.
Compare that to Talarico getting 1,200,000 votes in the Democratic Primary with a total of 2,300,000 votes cast.
Hmmmmm. If we see voter turnout like that in the November election, Texas is gonna turn purple, maybe even blue.
I can easily see why Conservatives might be discouraged. So far, in his second term, everything Trump has touched has turned to sh*t. Cornyn, a longtime Republican, has been loyal to Trump to a fault, and still Trump endorses Paxton.
Paxton is a criminal, but so is Trump. I guess the birds-of-a-feather thing holds true in politics.
Traditional Republicans spent $179.64 for every vote Cornyn got in the runoff. Still, a criminal who:
- got indicted for felony securities fraud, and who settled the case by giving the money back and doing community service
- who was accused by his own aides of abuse of power, and who he had to pay out $6,600,000 to when they sued him for firing them
- who was impeached by the Republican House in Texas
-and who is accused of "biblical infractions" by his wife, who is divorcing him,
won the runoff.
Yup! I can see how that could be discouraging. I think I'm gonna go and send Talarico another check now.
The DOJ investigation of Ms Carroll falls in the category how low can the DOJ go. It's right there with trying to felony indict someone for throwing a sandwich and actually indicting Mr Comey for exercising his first amendment rights. The DOJ needs to become an independent federal agency like the Fed.
Alas! You may have created a new acronym, Robert: "MUIP." (Mentally Unstable Impulsive President.) Now to decide how to pronounce it: One syllable or two? Short "i" or long? Personally, I like one syllable and a long "e" sound. Sounds like "MWEEP." Can you imagine hundreds-thousands of people chanting it at one time! How creative this horrible and ignorant administration has made all of us!
Longingly remembering Barack Obama's "Yes, we can!" Si, se puede. And "Forward!" of course. Adelante!
My new favorite protest sign is STOP THE ROT. We have to keep making the corruption a very prominent statement. Hey all. If you don’t listen to Simon Rosenberg, last night’s talk was was great. He explained the nitty gritty of what we’re up against in this election - which is now. Rs are going to spend huge amounts of money demonizing EVERY candidate and using AI to do it. Go to Hopium chronicles substack and take a listen. Good stuff and worth our time.
When discussing the possibility of Democrats winning a majority in the Senate, and the feeling that that would be a way to constrain tRump, does it take into effect the fact that Fetterman, although technically a Democrat, votes with the republiqans most of the time?
Good point. But the real battle is over who the Majority Leader will be; that person decides the calendar and controls what legislation makes it to the floor for a vote. Hopefully, Fetterman will at least vote for a Democrat for Majority Leader.
