Thank you for your continued guidance and support. Your strength helps keep us going. Take care of yourself and Jill always faithfully in the background. You both are a gift.
The interviewers sitting across from billionaire Howard Lutnick listening to his comments (I'm paraphrasing)...."My 94 year old mother-in-law wouldn't complain if she missed her SS check this month...... the fraudster always makes the loudest noise"…….. could have responded:
1. "Maybe that's because her son is Secretary of Commerce."
2. "I wouldn't complain either if my son-in-law was a billionaire"
3. "Maybe she shouldn't be getting SS since you could easily support her"
4. I think the fraudster would do as little complaining as possible to avoid drawing attention to themselves".
We, my 81 yo husband and my 77 yo self, went out to a protest in Christiansburg, Va today. There were 150 protestors with signs along a major intersection across from a Trump store. There was a cacaphony of drivers honking at us with approval. I think many more folks will join the next protest.
I loved this video and thank you for recording it. You articulate the issues so beautifully - the horror of it all - but with such intelligence and encouragement, I end up feeling I can try to do more. I do wish I could get out in the streets but am limited in that regard. I am grateful for your actions and a reminder to remember the next generation.
Trump and Musk are both stupid and playing games. I look at each action and surmise if it is legal or not legal. Most of Trump’s Executive Orders are illegal. Those I know the court will cancel in due time, like a month. I get neither worried, nor anxious about those. Each of those illegal Executive Orders constitutes a fraud on the American people. This fraud is rumming rampant. The courts are now intervening, but the court should turn proactive by citing these illegal Executive Orders as contempt against the plain language of The Law that takes taxpayer dollars to mitigate (damages).
We the people are the 5th estate that must back up the courts. DOGE has cost us taxpayers $ billions already. We the people pay the bills here.
I hear the world’s wealthiest peckerwood*, a derogatory Alabama term for a white person, whining about suffering (equitably I might add) from the anger that the peckerwood* in fact caused. Robert goes to protest the peckerwood* today! I wish the non tax-paying peckerwood* neither the pain, nor the stain. One does not easily shake off international disgust. Musk will need to change his stripes and become the giver, not the taker. That is Peckerwood’s call. Only Peckerwood* can fix his problems. Peckerwood* has engendered bad will by his cruel actions. Poor, poor pitiful Peckerwood*.
Use of the term peckereood, an inversion of woodpecker, dates to the early 19th century. The Oxford English Dictionary traces the earliest printed use to an Alabama newspaper in 1835. Peckerwood was in use in reference to white people by 1859; it often suggested a white person who was a little off in the head, backward, or poor. The shortened form peck was in use in the same sense in the 1920s. In African American folklore during the 1920s, the woodpecker symbolically represented white Americans, in contrast to the blackbird that cartoonishly represented African Americans. https://hotbuttons.substack.com/p/musk-whines-poor-poor-pitiful-me?r=3m1bs
Re Columbia, I am sending a donation to Georgetown University in support of their pushback, and will include a note that says that. Thank you for your very helpful explanations.
Thank you for being measured, civil, and steady. It is great news about Colorado protesters, and the most important line I heard from you was that the protests are growing geometrically instead of mathematically. It is great news that people are finding a way to protest nonviolently and significantly.
I also want to urge people to stay nonviolent. It doesn’t help when property damage occurs. We can only be on moral high-ground when we speak truth to power in solidarity. First amendment rights are for speech. We can try to persuade others to join us.
Thank you so much for your always wise counsel. It energizes me each week.
I appreciated the comments today about 1) never forgetting that the big picture is a completely illegal and unconstitutional regime, 2) continuing doing the cards and letters because at a minimum it changes us, and 3) about the missing step being impeachment and then needing to recognize what is the fallback when it can’t happen.
An old friend posted last week that her son has a horrible autoimmune brain disease and the then cancelled research at Columbia had been the only hopeful thing he had for hanging on to a possible cure in his lifetime. I agree with you entirely about Columbia University, and the horror of the universities and law firms not hanging together. And at the same time I also think about the costs of all this cancelled research all over the country.
Thank you so much for recording a video for those of us who couldn’t be there. Your Saturday talks are always helpful in providing explanations, encouragement and hope. I get a sense of comfort from these that written newsletters just can’t provide. Thanks for caring.
My social security account has been "suspended". No warning-no explanation. Unable to make an appointment for local social security office, unable to get through by phone or online. Therefore unable to determine why this is happening. What is going on in this situation is THE REAL DOMESTIC TERRORISM.
I’m so furious that these oligarchs, narcissists, and drug addled selfish sons of bitches are hurting hard working people who have paid into Social Security trusting in the promise of the government. I hope you are able to get a resolution.
My 86 year old mom and 2 of her friends took the bus from Boulder to Bernie and AOC yesterday! 👏

But of course, no comment from the interviewers
That was disappointing.
Suggestion—Tesla owners might put a bumper sticker on their cars: against Elon. For the environment.

Us too. We are 77 and 82 holding signs every chance we get. My arms hurt holding a sign in the wind but my heart aches. This helps.

Thank you, Robert, for naming what we are all feeling. I continue to appreciate all you do each and every day and am grateful for this community.
Thank you!! You keep me sane and focused and ACTIVE!!
Thank you doing Substack Live and for the video.

How frightening, Rachel.

I’m enraged on your behalf! Document everything and get an attorney, I’d say. Someone should help you pro bono if needed.
Thank you, Robert.
