Earlier this week, I listed my “go-to” sources for reliable news coverage and invited readers to add to my list. I have included below my original list and the additions by readers. Feel free to add more in the Comment section to this newsletter. Please include a hyperlink to the source you recommend, if possible.
It was a good week for President Biden, the Democrats, and the American people. Feel free to continue that discussion thread in the Comments section.
Several new stories on Friday are also worth discussing—(a) another balloon was shot down, this time over Alaska, (b) a lawyer who mispresented facts regarding Trump’s stolen documents appeared before a grand jury this week; (c) Ukraine and Russia are poised to begin a counter-offensive and offensive, respectively; (d) DeSantis stripped Disneyworld in Florida of certain rights to self-governance within the boundaries of the theme park—to punish Disney for treating LGBTQ people with dignity and respect; and (e) the Biden administration announced sanctions against Chinese companies that supplied components for the balloon shot down off the coast of South Carolina.
As always, please be respectful and “like” Comments that you believe should be flagged for other readers.
Have a good weekend!
Excerpt from Wednesday’s newsletter:
My “go-to” sources include Josh Marshall of Talking Points Memo, Ian Millhiser (Vox), Dahlia Lithwick and Mark Joseph Stern of Slate, Charlie Sykes and Jonathan Last (Bulwark), David Frum (Atlantic), Philip Rotner (various sources), Jennifer Rubin and Eugene Robinson of WaPo, Lawrence O’Donnell, Rachel Maddow, Chris Hayes, Neal Katyal (all of MSNBC), Dennis Aftergut and Laurence Tribe (various sources), Democracy Docket, the trio of commentators Joyce Vance, Barbara McQuade, and Jill Wine-Banks of #SistersInLaw, as well as Joyce Vance’s Civil Discourse, and many others. As to independent voices, I frequently consult and promote Heather Cox Richardson, Dan Rather, Tim Snyder, Judd Legum, and Katelyn Jetelina (all of Substack). Jessica Craven of ChopWoodCarryWater is in a category of her own for her constant bias toward action. And despite my frequent criticism, I always check the NYTimes and WaPo on major stories.

I highly recommend Democracy Docket from Mark Elias and the Elias Law Group for legislation and judicial actions on election law - https://www.democracydocket.com/
There is no charge to register on their website to receive their daily newsletter, “On the Docket.”
You can’t defend democracy if you don’t know what is threatening it.
Hi, Robert— Thanks for the recommendations, I would add The Guardian as a reliable news source.
