Yes, there is a double standard. Democrats should have a higher standard for their candidates. If the only candidate you end up nominating has serious allegations of abuse he should’ve stepped away a long time ago. Look at what we have become, arguing over whether we should push on with a candidate that has been credibly accused by numerous women of abuse. Last time I checked, Democrats were not Republicans. Republicans and some Independents will go for that, but Democrats should not. I am a Mainer, and I voted for Janet Mills. She’s a prosecutor, she stood up to Trump, she got Maine through the pandemic,
and did a fabulous job. She is not a perfect candidate, but she is a **** good one.. I think the person who garnered the most votes after Graham 🤺💕 Platner should be the candidate. It is letting the people decide and not having the party pick some random again un vetted person who was never on the ballot.
Speaking of attention spans, mine leads me to yearn for the glamor days of sex scandals, to reminisce about Wilber Mills and Fanne Fox, "The Argentine Firecracker" and "Tidal Basin Bombshell."
The OMB proposal is bad, and will impact all of us. Please review the above info, comment and call your elected officials to oppose this BEFORE July 13.
Things are moving every quickly. Drop Site News is reporting g that Platner campaigners-people canvassing, door knocking, are moving toward drafting Troy Jackson to replace Platner.
"The contempt for Jews and the contempt for women sat side by side in a single [Reddit} archive, and neither one stopped him from winning a Senate nomination."
So let me get this straight, we elect a convicted sexual predator, pathological liar, thug mob boss as president and then the democrats gasp and clutch their pearls when someone “claims” that Platner assaulted them sometime in the past. This is what is so, so frustrating about democrats. Platner has shown that he is a young fighter for democracy who may have had a rough past. He has admitted as much. But he is a fighter, he stands up for the constitution and human rights. No, he isn’t perfect but he speaks for the people. Let the people decide, not the timid DNC and Washington insiders. This is why I do not send money to the DNC!
I applaud your optimism. But if Platner withdraws on July 16 (which he should) , his replacement will have just 6 more days to campaign than Kamala Harris did in 2024. That didn't work out well, with much of the post-mortem discussing how little time she had.
Obviously, Maine is a lot easier place in which to campaign than the UNITED STATES, but I am worried. Even more worried because the party regulars are unlikely to nominate a progressive. My guess is we get Janet Mills, who never polled well against Collins, and is certainly part of the old Democratic party that has failed over and over to defeat Collins. .
Right, I hope not Janet Mills. I'd think he could bargain a bit with the Main Dem leaders along the lines of;OK I'd drop out if you'll appoint a progressive to run. When will the Dem establishment get it that a middle of the roader is not the most electable ?
Speaking of sex offenders, Trump is not only accused by multiple women but has been found guilty and liable over and over again, plus it's highly likely that the remaining 3 million Epstein files are being hidden to protect him from being exposed as a sexual predator and physical abuser of children. Let's not let anyone forget about the Epstein files.
Also, making it easier to purchase guns for the mentally ill is ... mentally ill.
OK, we live in the DC area. So last Thursday we went to the State Fair on the Mall. It was hot, security at the entrance was perfunctory. It seemed that a majority of the sparse attendees were MAGA folks. The two big pavilions were clearly designed for them, with homage to the tech bros in one and Christian religious and flag art dominating the other. All of the states and territories had small rooms to promote their state. Most of them seem to have made at best a half-hearted attempt to do so. Some of the rooms were not even staffed. Outside it was over 100 °F, so you went into the rooms and pavilions to escape the heat. You also had to go inside to get away from multiple evangelicals approaching you to be saved... Overall, we felt like we wasted our time attending. At least we looked at the interesting temporary exhibit at the Smithsonian Castle where we had parked our bicycles. They had some rare historical artifacts on display and exposition.
What kind of crazy is it when you-know who and Republican enablers think its OK to allow anyone, including mentally ill individuals, to order and ship guns through the mail, but you won't be able to mail a completed ballot if they pass the "SAVE" act.
Who thinks it’s a good idea to open up ways to get more guns, and into the hands of the mentally ill???? We have lost our everlovin’ minds!!! Does Trump want everyone to be armed in case he needs them to go after all of us???? America can be so damn stupid when it comes to guns. Can we not connect the dots???
An important Robert post. Thanks for your upbeat perspective. I appreciate it after the latest setback in re Platner. He will have to quit. We are different than Republicans. Batsby's call to Putin before NATO summit is just shameful. Why his supporters think he is helping democracy baffles me. I also don't get loosening restrictions on guns with the number of mass shootings in this country. Don't they always cry about the mental health aspect? Does this increase his support? I will call my Congressman to oppose OMB rule. Great Protest pics. Love the one from Bend, Ore!
Here's a bumpah stickah for Maine: ABC = Anybody But Collins!

did that. thank you.
Please share widely. I’m still surprised this isn’t shared widely

Robert, is all Trump's loosening of gun laws an attempt to build his own private militia?

May I suggest Heather Cox Richardson in lieu of Graham Platner ?
We can only wish.

Deadline for withdrawal to enable a replacement Democrat as candidate is July 13.

Right, the new Dem Sen candidate should run on. "I'm not a sexual offender nor do I support them, like you know who."
God help us all.
And just like with Al Franken, everyone lining up demanding Platner pull out!

Butler. Or was he not fearful for his life in Butler… because he knew…?
Just saying, Himself could easily identify with the mentally ill.
