“Our nation owes a debt of gratitude to Smith”

So true — his strength of character, integrity, and morals are priceless!

The debt will likely not be repaid fully in our lifetime, but undoubtedly it will be paid many times over in the history books. Plus, can you imagine how many others will be inspired to follow in his footsteps? It is this next generation of Jack Smiths who will ensure our democratic experiment continues. Indeed, the power of what one person alone can do is no match for what can be done when that person inspires many.

Lucian Truscott's latest is titled 'He is losing.' Yes he is, and determined to drag us down with him. But, We the People are his juries and we vote guilty. Love all the protest pictures. This is how it's done.

OH MY! KLeavitt lied about Belguim? How ridiculously true!

I understand the concerns with relying on poles and how misleading they can be but the bottom line point is that all of them show that 35 or more percent of the of the country support the orange man and or his disciples in Congress they should be a clear warning to the majority of us that we’ve got to not only take action in this year‘s election, but elections there after because the danger is with that much of the country gullible? Or mean thinking? Or something equally horrid we still have a lot of work to do. We’ve got to vote. We’ve got to stand up and be counted cause with that much of a country that are sheep and easily lead, and it didn’t take that much more to elect the guy and his silk, we must be constantly vigilant, and we must encourage people to vote. That’s the key.

The public needs to understand that ICE casts a huge dragnet and they don’t distinguish between people who are here “illegally” and people who have green cards (which means they have permanent resident status, and pay US taxes) or are in the immigration process because they have applied for asylum, and have even detained at least 170 US Citizens. Some people think ICE is only removing people who have committed violent crimes and have not announced themselves to Immigration by applying for asylum or citizenship.

If the media made clear exactly WHO is being detained and deported and what their status is, and the percentage who have committed violent crimes, I think there would be a better understanding of ICE’s lawlessness. HOW DO WE GET

THE WORD OUT ON THIS?

NPR interviewed 14 people who

Unbelievably huge crowd in Minneapolis this afternoon - one estimate is hundreds of thousands. Marchers now arriving at the Target Center where they will rally inside. Bitter cold temperatures (-10 degrees, plus wind chill) have not deterred them. The marchers explain why they showed up and tell stories about people's rights being violated by ICE agents. Love this: “Under Trump, the lies fly so fast and furiously that they are like motes of dust on the top shelf of a college dorm room bookcase—ubiquitous, invisible, and unremarkable.”

Regarding the supreme court, in addition to expanding it (which helps in the immediate moment but not necessarily long-term), I'm wondering, is to possible to restructure it or set limits on it otherwise? Like limiting use of the shadow docket, and requiring all decisions to provide a rational justification, and the ability to challenge a decision if the provided justification is lacking in substance or based on false information/statements? Or if they blatantly ignore the constitution?

Can justices be impeached? If we're confirming someone to be an arbiter of justice that's above question, there's ought to be some recourse if they're not doing it in good faith.

Robert, thank you again, especially for giving confidence in the Constitution and explaining why we don't need to fear a right-wing convention. Besides, we can make our own proposals, like rewrite the 2nd Amendment, add the right of privacy, and more.

Thanks also for great comments for Blue CD2 NM Wednesday evening. I hope lots of readers signed up so they learned at least one of the three, you, could keep to time limits.

Here is another take on polls and why MAGA remains in his camp.

We don't need a new amendment. We need our current constitution to be enforced. Donald had a coup against the US and Colorado left him off of the ballot but the Supreme Court said that that didn't count. It did and it does. We need to expand the Supreme Court and impeach the current justices who are taking bribes.

The definition of stupid is "having or showing a great lack of intelligence or common sense." Other than that, why would Jim Jordan and the Republicans hold a televised public hearing when they knew from his deposition and reputation that Jack Smith would be too much for them? The answer might be they were following orders from someone who really is stupid.

Robert, only one "n" in Siena, as in Siena Heights University and Siena Research Institute, from the city of Siena in Italy, home of Catherine of Siena, whom I know you will remember as a saint. Wikipedia notes that "Catherine of Siena was an Italian mystic and pious laywoman who engaged in papal and Italian politics through extensive letter-writing and advocacy."

Catherine pressured popes and other political leaders through her group of strong women allied with her. Her influence with Pope Gregory XI played a role in his 1376 decision to return the Holy See from Avignon to Rome. A learned woman engaged in hard politics, philosophical and mystical writing, and using the power of her words and energy to convince others of what is right. This DMight be a good patron for some of our efforts.

Admittedly, sometimes Siena is rendered as Sienna in English, as in Toyota Sienna, a fine minivan of my early middle age, but the poll is one "n."

Grateful always for your work and leadership. (Thanks, also, for the two "n's" that sent me to double check Siena and led me again to St. Catherine, quite an amazing person, who, with Teresa of Avila, became the first women to be named receive the title Doctor of the Church by decree of Pope Paul VI in 1970.)

Another ⭐️. I love this and could use a wise and ferocious woman saint looking out for me/us.

Thanks, Colleen. I agree. The awareness of non-conservative models and the actions and words of some Catholic leaders should help all people of faith to wake up to the cruelty and evil that is being done under the shield of "traditional" values. Fighting saints, canonized or not, Catholic or not, Christian or not, and of all gender identities have been leading justice and speaking truth to power forever. Catherine of Siena, Hypatia, St. Therese de Lisieux, etc, etc. The church militant has too long been sandbagged and held captive by the forces of a hypocritical conservatism.
