My wife and I are in mid-festivities for the marriage of our youngest daughter this weekend. We wish her and her husband the same happiness with which we have been blessed for 41 years!
Like the past few weeks, I am opening the comments section for all readers as we approach one of the most important midterms in our nation’s history. Share volunteer opportunities and stories to inspire and sustain fellow citizens during these challenging times.
Yes, the polls are tightening—they always do. Turnout will decide the outcome of the midterms. Democrats are motivated to turn out for liberty, security, health, and a sustainable climate; Republicans are motivated to vote against those same goals and values. In a rational world, the Democratic positive agenda should generate more voter turnout than the Republican negative agenda. Let’s make that happen.
Before the January 6th insurrection, Nancy Pelosi had a legitimate basis for claiming she was the greatest Speaker of the House in our nation’s history. After January 6th, all doubt is removed. There were many heroes on January 6th—some of whom turned out to be unlikely, temporary patriots who abandoned the Constitution at the first opportunity. No member of Congress rose to the occasion like Nancy Pelosi, whose calm but decisive leadership was an anchor for congressional leaders struggling to contain a violent and volatile.
As we struggle with the seeming chaos and volatility of the closing weeks of the 2022 midterms, we all need to be like Nancy Pelosi—willing to take charge, defiant, and unrelenting in doing everything possible to claim as many victories as possible. We won’t win every race—we don’t have to; we need only win enough to maintain control of Congress, flip a few state legislatures, and claim a few more statewide executive offices. That will be enough to hold the barricades for now. We can do that; we did it in 2018 and 2020. Let’s do it in 2022!
After showing the video clip of Schumer and Pelosi, huddled and on the phone with Jeff Rosen, Stephen Colbert commented, “This footage reveals a superhuman level of composure by the Speaker. I guess it’s true what they say, behind every successful man, is Nancy Pelosi saying, “Chuck please. I’ll handle this.““
I know I speak for many of your readers in wishing you blessings for the nuptials of your daughter. May the young couple be blessed with a happy marriage and a wonderful family, and a household filled with love.
