Another school shooting. My older daughter's HS freshman year was marked by Columbine. I worked 30 years in public schools. When I started, there weren't shooter drills. Toward the end, I had to mentally have a plan for where and how I could protect my students, at all times. All of my students had disabilities. I signed up for the challenge to make their lives better not to protect them from bullets. THIS is Shameful! Unspeakable.

Thanks for the pep talk and the anti-doomsday scenario. And on a different, orders of magnitude less important, subject, it's nice to see the word disinterested used correctly (Sorry, I'm a word nerd) :-)

For a bit of an uplift in all of this, Rev Al Sharpton led a march on Wall Street today with folks bussed in from across the country to the be in the streets. Mamdani spoke. People are rising: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dDJ8OLLOHN8

Robert Hubbell, thank you for continuing to speak the truth with clarity, courage and hope. Each newsletter is a gift in a media landscape of disinformation, ignorance and fear. Your writing is thoughtful, concise and filled with the goodness that one individual can give to our society. Continue to make your voice heard. We, the citizens of this country under siege, need you and every other person who does not let fear hold them back.

Why do you expect intellectual consistency?

My husband who is 76 and I have been riding our bikes every day for an hour with large protest signs on the front. We live in Old Orchard Beach Maine where there is significant Trump support. We have had someone spit at us, many giving us the third finger, others yelling at us from their cars or the sidewalk. But also a number of people have given us thumbs up, put their hand on their heart or cheered. My husband often has a DEI poster and one day we saw about 15 or 20 young people of color who started cheering. That made our day. For the first time I have felt scared in my community but realize people of color, transgendered people and immigrants feel this all the time. Thank you Robert for your newsletter. We listen every day to keep our spirits up and to recommit to the fight for justice and democracy.

I so agree about Mr.Graff’s essay which I read in a Facebook post, and I thank you for talking about it , because it was alarmist, pessimistic, and premature…especially in light of the resistance that is visible in the courts and amongst the general population. In the red state where I reside, I see an increase in the number of protests and meetings in different areas. We need to keep on doing what we are doing ! I appreciate Mr. Trump for talking about being a dictator, the elephant in the room has been identified and claimed!

Thanks, Robert, for your positive boost at the end of the post! I follow Jess Craven and do a lot of her actions to remind our senators of how I feel and hope they act in congress. I also repost a lot of things I feel we resistors need to share with each other.

And when I am able to (and in my home state of CA) I show up to rallies and protests. I believe all this helps and is working.

You wrote that Garrett Graff “ was John Dean’s deputy national press secretary at 23” - John Dean? Per-haps you meant Howard Dean?
