Alt National Park Service on Facebook posted these encouraging results of April 5th. It is the first time I have seen a total count:

"Yesterday was incredible. The official count is in — 5.2 million people joined the #HandsOff protest nationwide. So many are asking: what’s next? Mark your calendars: 4/19 is the next nationwide day of protest. Let’s go even bigger — our goal is to get 3.5% of America in the streets. Some media outlets are reporting only “tens of thousands” participated, but that’s no accident. Downplaying the turnout is a tactic to suppress momentum. But you were there. You saw the crowds. Even small red-district towns showed up in force. Don’t let them rewrite the story. It was a historic day — and we’re just getting started. We are proud of all of you — for many, this was your first protest, and you showed up with strength and purpose. Thank you to all the local authorities who helped keep everyone safe, and to the many military members and off-duty officers who attended and monitored the situation. Keep your signs, make new ones, and start preparing now. Let’s make history again on 4/19."

Thank you for this incredibly comprehensive review tonight. There’s simply so much to process that I will focus on an aspect I know well. As for the rest, I’m just glad we are in this together because it is daunting.

I was also going to post the Cornell / Northwestern NYT article, as I’ve been affiliated with both in the past. Here is a free gift link if you cannot access via Robert's link: https://www.nytimes.com/2025/04/08/us/politics/cornell-northwestern-university-funds-trump.html?unlocked_article_code=1.-U4.4P-7.ZopQRl9t5R_E&smid=url-share&fbclid=IwZXh0bgNhZW0CMTEAAR5gNXn3hjLiSz5791mjwJtFGAeCLVWBDeqS7NGrh6VqON9XgtFwWHC2jLef7A_aem_cq3lFYFeL-ZO4u_Vt3l_nw

I wanted to dig into a few fine points that are being attacked — by an unscrupulous world wrestling zealot — that may fly under the radar. One new aspect mentioned in NYT is agriculture being attacked. That likely references Cornell, because it is the only ivy that is also a designated land grant institution under the Morrill Land Grant act from 1862. Most of the original land grant institutions are flagship state institutions, like those in the Big Ten. Their agricultural research often serves as a great economic engine for their respective states. To target ag research is an unbelievably stupid economic harm, and will eventually trickle down to damage farming assistance and development.

So too, you may notice defense and cybersecurity research now being targeted, which many flagship research institutions develop at very high degrees (some cyber and defense research initiatives are also fairly recent). This research is often unparalleled and quite clearly assists our military, scientific and intelligence capacities. To target these areas of innovation, one of the U.S.’s greatest strengths and drivers of economic growth, is another blindingly stupid self own by the current regime. All in the name of spurious cultural scapegoating and anti intellectual retribution.
